Kemmeter, Jennifer. Build It! Robots: Make Supercool Models with Your Favorite Lego® Parts (2017).
For young Lego enthusiasts and beginners alike, this book, one of a series by the author, will provide them with hours of model building instruction. Each book in the series focuses on a subject (robots) and provides the reader with approximately four groups of projects that are related. This edition includes several models under the headings of Robot Family, Flying Robots, Emergency Squad and Space Adventure, with each individual model named and its starting page number located above the name. The author provides an organized demonstration of how to use the book before beginning as well, using text bubbles and arrows to indicate how readers should move through the pages. Each section heading is prefaced with an image of a scene in which all models are shown completed. At the beginning of each set of instructions, the author provides a color, illustrated list of necessary blocks and on the opposite page, numbered and grouped instructions showing builders which blocks to use at the top and how to connect the blocks below a demarcation line. For the majority of the book, the author includes four sets of instructions per page. However, there is no overt end to each set of build instructions, which may be confusing for some readers initially. The final page of the book is an advertisement to purchase more of the series.
In all, Build it! Robots is a well-organized, colorful and imaginative guide for Lego builders to use that closely mirrors how brick sets are marketed to children by Lego. Target audience: 4 - 7 years.
