Terrible, but exactly what the book appears to be. A bunch of cat and fish puns strung together with a painfully nice story. Had I been the right age I might have read these.
Me: What do you want to say about Purrmaids? You talk and I will type it. Her: Thank you for reading Purrmaids. Me: You're welcome. What else? Her: Chocolate chip. Me: No, about the book. Her: Good.... It was good. Me: ....What specifically? Her: Ill come back. *Walks away with a bowl of strawberries.*
**Waits**
*Settles back next to me. Stares at me.* Her: I'm back now. Me: What did you like about Purrmaids? Her: I used all my questions. Me: What? Her: What? Me: What about the book? Her: Good. The Purrmaids club? Me: The Catfish club? Her: Oh, I thought it was the Purrmaids club. *Chuckles* Me: This has been great. Thank you.
I have already mailed this off to Harvard and am awaiting reply.
Bardhan-Quallen, Sudipta The Catfish Club (Purrmaids #2), 84 pages. CHAPTER BOOK. Random House, 2017. $5. Content:G
The Purrmaids are excited to visit the refurbished Kittentail Cove Museum, especially after Ms. Harbor asks each class member to create art for their homework. Their plans are interrupted when three other class members are also at the museum with the same idea. Unless the six purrmaids get along, none of them will have anything to show their teacher tomorrow.
Get ready to wade through a whole bunch of cat puns (Vincent Fang Gogh, Catisse). The message about cooperation adds weight to a book that would otherwise just be silly.
My daughter loves this series of books. We originally purchased because of the cool cover, but the stories have quickly become favorites. I personally don't find the story-lines particularly memorable, but they engaged my first grader and she wants to read the other books in the series. I found the subject matter and dialog to be appropriate for girls her age and the conflict and resolution were perfect and relevant as well. Add to that the cat puns and well, it was a fun book.
My 4 year old daughter loves Purrmaids. I like it too, I just wish there were more pictures for her. This story had an important message about working together and not misjudging people.
At first the catfish cut in line and Angel and her friends were shouting at them and they were mad at each other and they wanted to work apart. At the end of the book, they worked together and made a big art craft called Starry Kittentail Cove.
This is a very sweet and engaging story—well written with valuable lessons throughout. The use of fun “cat language” like purr-fectly and paw-sitively adds a playful touch that’s sure to get some giggles, especially from younger readers. I’ll definitely be reading more from the Purrmaids series!
My daughter loves this series. I personally liked the first one a lot more. This one loves up to the name “Catfish Club” because all of them are very catty.
Read with my daughter. They’re are not stellar books but this one was a little better than the first one. My daughter enjoys them so that’s what matters!
Great story about sharing and working together! Also, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but there might be a few too many cat related puns... Cute book.
