Boys and girls ages 4 to 6 will love Step into Reading leveled reader that features Nickelodeon's PAW Patrol in two frosty adventures. In the first tale, the pups help a baby whale who's trapped in the ice. In the second one, Everest saves the day! This step 2 reader inlcudes more than 30 shiny stickers. Step 2 Readers use basic vocabulary and short sentences to tell simple stories. For children who recognize familiar words and can sound out new words with help.
Get on a roll with the Nickelodeon's PAW Patrol ! Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Skye, and the rest of the puppy heroes are on a mission to save their friends and protect the community of Adventure Bay using PAW-some vehicles, tools, and teamwork.
Unfortunately, kind of a hot mess. (I mean, the stories themselves are sort of okay, but....) The second book - the one that starts from the part of the book with the ISBN and UPC barcodes, so you know it's the back cover - tells the story about how Everest joins the team. The first book has Everest already being part of the team, solving a new problem. (Also, the problem had my coworkers all laughing at me when I yelled "THAT IS NOT HOW WHALES WORK" out loud. But seriously. That's not how whales work.) Also, what's with the rest of the Paw Patrol being in the desert while Jake (and Everest) are in the Ice Fields? Did they come rescue him in the second-story-that's-clearly-the-first-chronologically, then go back home, and then come back again to help the baby whale? Because I'm guessing that's a trip of several hours each way...
(In which I over-analyze children's literature because I'm cranky.)
This 2-in-1 book was a school book club pick for January. The first story we read was Break the Ice. I suspect it follows a TV episode as most of the books do, though we've yet to see this one, making it a pleasant surprise overall. The second story, Everest Saves the Day is a very summarized version of the episode when Jake and Everest meet for the very first time. Overall, both are cute and overly simplified for learning readers. With the shows popularity, it makes and easy pick for a child's favorite.

My kids have so many Paw Patrol books at this point I can't even remember where they got this one. L particularly loves this one, though, as she's a big fan of Everest. Simple easy reader, characters the kids like, nothing about it is particularly memorable to me but I'm glad they enjoy it.
Good story about Everest a new paw patrol member. My kids are already starting to grow too old for paw patrol. It's interesting that paw patrol has become part of the culture wars.
What toddler doesn't like Paw Patrol, to tell the truth we had never even seen an episode of Paw Patrol when we first read these books. A little girl I used to babysit introduced us to the famous characters. Mason fell in love with Paw Patrol and knew their names even before we ever watched the show or even read a book. I mean what is there not to love about Puppies that save the day. So we found these stories "Break the Ice!" and "Everest Saves the Day! by Courtney Carbone and illustrated by Mike Jackson.
This book is two stories in one! In the first tale "Break the Ice" Everest has to save a whole who's been trapped in the ice. Oh No....and in the second tale, "Everest Saves the Day!" is where Everest has to save the day and the pups.
My kids who are 7, 5, 3, and even my five month old love these books so very much. They love Paw Patrol and as a mom I really like them as well. These two stories are based off an episode in the series. I really like the vocabulary throughout the stories that help my kids learn what each thing means. These are perfect for those readers who are just starting to learn how to read. We love how similar the pictures are to the show. You can't really tell any difference between the two. I love how they always have a theme to show that anyone can be a hero. Check out these stories if you have a kid who loves puppies or even those who love Paw Patrol.
I really enjoy these two books in one things. Very cool idea. Overall, the stories are okay. It's good for early readers who like Paw Patrol, but neither story is amazing.
Thoughts on Break the Ice:
Cute story. It is simple and entertaining. I feel like I watched an Octonauts episode where essentially the same thing happens: the Octonauts have to save some belugas who can't swim all the way back to the open sea because they need to come up for air or something. So not necessarily a very unique story, but entertaining nonetheless. I was a bit concerned with how happy that whale looks despite being stuck and its mom freaking out, but whatever.
Thoughts on Everest Saves the Day:
This is Everest's origin story. Can't say it's all that exciting. Basically Jake keeps falling and Everest helps him then joins the team. Cute pictures, but not much of a story.
