My Jiffies is a unique compilation of bite-sized stories and poems. It captures the irony and amusement of the journey called life. The book navigates through seven different moods narrating diverse emotions and situations, observed or experienced by the author. It’s a string of jiffies reciting tacit sentiments or messages turned upside down in everyday life, across eras and cultures. Wading from modern day to mythic, romance to pathos, satire to ruthless humour, it never stops to surprise the reader with every turn of the page. One never knows what is held next.

My Jiffies by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura is not a story or a plot, it's just a flow of emotions. It is not even collection of short stories, but a collection of various sentiments. Page-long narrations or poems show feeling of human hearts.

Priyanka Kaintura has divided book wonderfully in seven segments. Each segment starts with wonderful art and few lines. Each segment has its own narration which makes us feel the emotions with which narration was painted. Segments are:
- Orations - Literally mean a formal speech. But this segment is flooded with various questions, incidents, and stories that one person can relate with day to day things. These snippets take readers to themselves and make readers ponder upon thinking process.
- Eclogues - Poems, shorter ones. Most of these poems are written as Priyanka's own feeling towards various relationships and emotions.
- Monologues & Dialogues - A very short conversation or mental note of various characters, mostly ending with thought provoking questions or line.
- Stories - Bite-sized stories as blurb mentioned, but deep in meaning. I liked nine stories that Priyanka has created in line with nine shades of Durga
- Pathos - Again short narrations/stories talk about some heart touching stories
- Satire & Sarcasm - Short tales on thoughtful topics
- Life Aphorisms & Epigrams - Poems, wonderfully penned down.

While other authors keep a theme in their mind even while writing short stories book, Priyanka has kept herself from sticking up to the single theme. Book talks about happiness, sadness, belongingness, separations, death, birth.

My Jiffies presents 150+ gems in form of words, some were portrayed as stories, while some were shown as quotes; and some were dressed up as poems.

Post Re-read 29/03/20: Somethings are meant to be, I guess! I remember that I ASKED for this book’s review copy thinking that I’ve never read short stories and that I should give it a try. Little did I know Lady Fortuna was guiding me towards an amazing author! I really like this book. The more I spend time with this book, the more I realize that this reads like a book from a seasoned author. There is a confidence in the writing style. A knowledge of being able to do justice to the task undertaken.

I have loved quite a few authors but I never understood the concept of fan girl/boy. I guess I was unlucky like that. But now I’ve found the queen of my heart!!
The author is such an amazing and lovely person and so approachable! I love interacting with her through her FB/insta page and she always obliges. Although I am sure that to her I sound like a complete dork because whenever I talk to her my cheeks flush, my heart flutters and my mind goes blank!! God, I’m starting to sound like a teenager in love!! :P
Damn you Priyanka! But I love you for writing this book. Know that you have earned yourself a crazy stalker fanboy for life. Will you have me please?

I believe it’s much easier to be kept awake by a book for all the excitement and suspense and action. But it’s hard to put a reader to sleep with a smile on their face. I never read a book like that. This is that book. I can fall asleep with this book laid open on my chest and with a smile on my face. That, I think, can be my biggest compliment to you, Priyanka. Thank you, once again for the signed copy. I am indebted. And it’s even more special that it’s my first signed copy from any author. First times are always extra special, right? *wink wink*
I’m a cheeky bastard and I am going to hell for it!! :P

Original Review:
For sometime now, I have been looking for an Indian author that I could cherish and after reading their work I am left to admit, “Boy, that was great!”
And I also have been looking for a female author to fall for. One for whom I could say that I will want to read more from.
But never did I know that both these wishes of mine will be granted through one small package called My Jiffies: Narration of Moments, Unadulterated and Unpackaged.
You know how they say, “Best things come in small packages”?
Only now I realize the truth in those words.

“He doesn’t want to conceal his interest anymore and says:” Priyanka Sharma Kaintura, I think I’m in love with you!! <3

Short stories are not my thing. Not really. When I got this book, I had no expectations. When I opened the book to see that these short stories were mostly one paged, some only as long as a few lines, I almost gave up. What little hope I had, was fleeting.
But then I read the 1st page and the quote about hopes.
Why collect all your hopes in one place, hoping hope will brighten up your world. Let the light of hope be speckled in unknown spots, so it can surprise you with a twinkle here and a sparkle there.
That's when I knew that something is about to change. And change it did! I now realize how amazing short stories can be in the hands of one as lovely as Priyanka! Ah, the feels! So many feels!! Best one though? To be able to fawn over an author and to be left wanting for more!

Though the stories are all bite sized, they are still deep and meaningful. They invoke a thought process and in many cases they will make you reminisce. This is not a collection of short stories. Not really, no. This is a collection of thoughts, musings, experiences and feelings.
This is a book, with all of its pages comprised of the purest of emotions that our hearts hold. This is not a book, atleast not for me.
These are feelings, given physical form and given voice through paper and ink.
I can only try to express (and probably fail) how much I loved this book and the author for what they made me feel. A host of feelings and memories revisited me in the moments when I read this book.
Love is a great thing. It is most likely the only sensation in the world, which enables us to live in the moment.

This book is divided into 7 categories.
1. Orations
2. Eclogues
3. Monologues & Dialogues
4. Stories
5. Pathos
6. Satire & sarcasm
7. Life Aphorisms & Epigrams

This book is definitely among the top 3 that I have read this year and I am so glad I gave this a fair chance. It was quite amazing to read the words that form a huge chunk of my thoughts and to have my feelings made flesh from someone else. It was a wonderful thing to read from someone like minded.
Something so cozy about the fact that someone else feels the way you feel and notices what you notice. See how perfectly we fit into each other?

The author has a very fluent and smooth writing style. It’s a fresh narrative and has a very delicate and realistic touch. So much so, that even when she writes about an extra-marital affair, she does make it sound like love and that’s quite a feat because for me personally, that particular setting never works. Even though I find myself quite incapable of appreciating poetry most of the times, I really did like the offerings here. Not once does it come off as amateurish or as a forced or a rushed book. There are practically no editing mistakes and all in all, this book is something you can definitely enjoy as some light reading.
Although, not all that light because it sure will touch your heart. And if you are lucky, it might steal your heart like it did mine.

Amongst the stories, I adored quite a few.
1. Disappearing Memory of Partition.
2. Satvin Trees.
3. Her pointless conquest.
4. Are You Mollifying the Right Shiva.

The one that I loved, was titled Arjuna & Bhima.
Strange are the ways of love. Draupadi could shut her eyes to all that Arjun did not do and still love him. She could also shut her eyes to all that Bhima did do and still not give him the place she had saved for Arjun.

The story that took the cake was titled The Light Inside .
There is light all around me but so much darkness inside me. I am happy, yet, what do I seek? I have everything. Yet, what is missing? How on earth do I get illuminated inside and rejoice Diwali from within? How I wish I could untangle these strings…

But the story that really touched me: Rain Mask
This year too, he waits for the rain, but for an unusual reason. This time, he steps in the rain to cry his heart out, so no one can see the tear drops. He uses the rain as a mask.

Have you been hungry and were offered munchies? As you keep munching, you’re not satiated, if anything, you are left wanting for more after you’re through. This was like that.
I dragged this book out towards the end. Toying with the idea of finishing it. I did not want it to end. I am left craving for more. This book has been a cherished read and I can say with a certain level of surety that I will be reading it again sometime.

I am, for the very first time, completely satisfied and content with a book that I was asked to review. I couldn’t have asked for better.

I wish the author great luck and success in her current and all future endeavors and I would really, really love to read more from her. (Secretly hoping to receive next book of hers for review and wishes it comes out soon).

You go Priyanka!!

Have you ever read something so good that you feel the need to keep it aside for a while and think about it for some time? No? Then you should definitely read this book as you’ll get enough chances of doing exactly that.

I am still wondering, is it over?
I guess not. I will need some time to finish this in my head.

I am so glad I read it. This book has almost every emotion- memories, wisdom, inspiration, kindness, realization, pride, love, innocence, pain, friendship, nostalgia and many many more...

I loved the way writer distributed her thoughts into different segments. There are 7; Orations, Eclogues, Monologues and dialogues, Stories, Pathos, Satire and Sarcasm, Life Aphorisms & Epigrams.

It works perfectly; they are like seven colors which makes a perfect Rainbow. Seven notes which makes a soothing music. And as they say seven is the most magical number, I wonder why?

Starting with the Orations; they were fine and I thought after reading them that it’s a good book. I was wrong. You’ll find out why but for now I would like to mention these 7 orations, which I especially liked-

DISAPPEARING MEMORY OF PARTITION - First writing of the book and it gives you the glimpse of what you can expect from the book. By the time I finish this, I knew I am reading a worthy stuff.

DOUSABLE SKIRMISHES - Just proved how sometimes tiny things are all that matters, simply beautiful.

SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE - It asks a question in a most subtle but effective way, astonishing how a simple example can change your perception.

ARJUN OR BHIMA - I won’t spoil it for you all, just read it and see if it makes sense for you.

THE FORT - Too deep to right something about it

WHEN I DIED - My personal favorite from this section, makes you think about a lot of things.

ARE YOU THAT ONE CALL? Quite similar yet a bit different from the last one I mentioned, but it certainly left an impact on me.

Apart from these 7; some 15 odd are really good and only 4-5 are mediocre ones.

Second Part Eclogues is obviously my favorite. It made sure that I should compliment the writer individually; and this is the reason it’s not a good book but a great one.

There are 23 pieces of writing in this segment and how I wish I could write at least a one liner about all of them. Obviously that would be too much, so here I am sharing only my favorites.

WHAT A DOLT I WAS THAT I WAITED TO GROW OLD - It made me nostalgic in a way I didn’t know was possible. An excerpt-

As a child, I didn’t know of regret, and my heart was fearless
When my father threw me up in the air, I gurgled in happiness
I wasn’t beaten down with knowledge and believed he would hold
What a dolt I was that I waited to grow old

I SAVOUR THAT

Whoever he spends his time with, his mind is texting me
Wherever he spends his time, his mind finds my memoirs
His soul looks for mine like its existence depends on it
I savour that
He doesn’t know that I know all this
That I am his little world, its center and its surround
I savour that

IF I LOVE YOU, I LIVE YOU - I wonder how something this simple can be this good

I live you in a book
You live me on a drive
I live you on my walk
You live me on your flight
Because, if I love you, I live you

I SMILED INSIDE - This one is going in my all time favorite list but I don’t have a heart to share any excerpt.

HURRICANE KATRINA – I won’t share any excerpts, just read it to know why the hurricanes are named after women :) intriguing, isn’t it?

Monologue and dialogues – 3rd segment, 22 creations and some of my favorites are

THE MOSS – The realization of the impact of a simple deed

DEEP CONVERSATIONS - Goodness me! Sometimes the innocence of a small kid can point out the biggest flaws in our society and beliefs. I loved the way it was portrayed :)

SPIRITED DREAMS - The value of dreams

TRUSTING THE MISTRUST - The toughest thing to do and only the best purest ones can do it.

COME WITH ME, LET’S WALK TOGETHER - Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. Why? Read it for yourself

Stories – Fourth and my second favorite segment of the book. Again I love almost all of them but some worthy of special mention are

LILY AND TULSI - An unusual yet perfect match, brilliantly written

THE YOUNG MANGO TREE - The most intriguing story, I must say. It was painful and I don’t know what to make of it but I just can’t get it out of my head.

I WILL GIVE YOU WINGS, ANCA - Oh dear! The selfless love of parents; the best kind of love
Then there is a beautiful compilation of nine stories on nine shades of Durga; and each one was equally beautiful and apt. BRAVO Priyanka! You rock

RAMADAN KAREEM - Another aspect of caring and love; Heart touching

Pathos – Fifth segment with a dozen of writings. My favorites are

TILL DEATH DO US PART – But what Death really is?

RAIN ON THE PANE - Sometimes all you need is a catharsis

Satire & Sarcasm - Second last segment; again simple, direct and effective. I like “POLITE ANIMAL PEOPLE” & “BEING HUMAN”. Both ask the same questions about the humanity in humankind by the mean of different examples.

So by the time I stared last segment Life Aphorisms & Epigrams the book was 95% done; and I was thinking, come on Avinash lets finish this and write a good long review. Guess what? I was again in for a surprise again. These are not fillers. My third favorite segment of the series and here are some of my favorite

SOMETHING – How two people can be both losers even if it’s nobody’s fault.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS - Nostalgia and a realization.

LET’S MAKE THIS JOURNEY OUR HOME - Something similar to COME WITH ME, LET’S WALK TOGETHER but the angle was a bit different.

WHEN LAUGHTER FROLICKEDA - A bitter truth.

Now coming to what I really feel about this book in totality. (Don’t worry guys it will be over soon :P but I really have something important to share here)

You can see the versatility of this book, both in writing style and aspects. I am not denying that the major emotion of this book is love but it isn’t gooey or all sugary. It was decent and heart touching.

Though I was always a believer of this thought but there was something in this book which solidifies my idea that “Love can exist without any expectation or agenda.” It’s one of the purest feelings in the entire universe and it’s not dependent on ANYTHING.

You can love anyone, even with their baggages, limitations and flaws; as long as you have a pure heart. And if you do have that then you won't expect anything in return, not really.

Even if a true love is unfulfilled it doesn’t bring darkness, but mostly people are so focused on that part that they can’t see the other aspect of it. You just need to dig in deep and find out that the darkness is the mere shadow at the bottom of all the light around.

Priyanka Ma’am I can’t tell you how glad I am that I read this book. You’re simply superb.

I wish I could give it 7 stars, but then I wish for a lot of things

How I wish we,
Never spoke for impression
Never spoke for pride
Never spoke for courtesy
Never spoke to win
How I wish we just spoke for real
I wish humans knew of no bond other than friendship
I wish humans didn’t know of love
I wish things were as simple as this

But even if all my wishes can’t be fulfilled I am content, in this case with 5 stars :)

P.S. This review is dedicated to my GR buddy Anish who believes in looooooong reviews. Here Anish, you have it. For once, I let the heart took control and emotions talk. For me it is quite the same as unleashing the kraken :P Let me know what you think about the review, I guess it was a total waste.

‘My Jiffies’ is a collection of bit sized stories capturing the emotions of one’s relationship, long lost memories, true love, asperities, and sorrow. The stories are written in different styles and categorized according to the theme of the stories in seven different categories. It has stories on Mythological characters like the story of ‘Arjun Or Bhima’ and then there is a story relate to the world around you, the way the people becomes a mute spectator to your predicament like the story of ‘Being Human’ which is written in a form of satire and sarcasm. The stories came out of everyday circumstances and moments of our life.

I cannot name a single story as my favorite and neither I can give the long list in this review. The series of ‘Nine Names of Durga’ is written exceptionally well and stands apart.

‘My Jiffies’ will surprise you with every turn of the page because you never know what it is written on next page you are walking into and what next turn of a page and next story will bring to you. Enjoy the ride.

Nice book, nice words,
deep - intensive thought with short and loud echo.

An author has done a nice paper with her natural-dependent nature, to see the world consistently awaiting what thy gives to her (us). There are so much stories where one can make an amazing drama and short movies as well.

Short and sweet.

Thanks, dear Author.
Will wait for your next.

Note: Free copy from the Author in exchange of an honest review.

"Why collect all your hopes in one place,
Hoping hope will brighten up your world
Let the light of hope be speckled in unknown spots
So it can surprise you with a twinkle here and a sparkle there
Or simply remain out of sight, keeping your hopes alive."

The book won me over at the beginning only. Two minutes in the book and I had realized that this is the perfect book for someone who has a minuscule attention span like me. The book is divided into seven parts where author has expressed her views, thoughts and feelings for a huge variety of characters and plots. I really admired her creativity. The best part was the Orations. I had loved each and every story in that category. However, my favorites are Are you mollifying the right Shiva? and Arjun or Bhima.

Since I had loved the first category, my expectations rose to a different level. I went on to Eclogues, the next category. I had savored What A Dolt I Was That I Waited To Grow Old so much that I had read and reread it a million times. I am not a big fan of poetry (probably I am dead inside) yet this enlightened the flame of nostalgia in me.

I was riding on a high wave of euphoria of the magical words of the author. And then I crashed!
I crashed badly. The next few categories were not so impressive for me. I felt lost at the end of most of the stories and could not comprehend what exactly the author wants us to imagine or feel.

The author hitched me back at the beginning of Pathos (another category) like -
"He never got a chance to see his skeletal frame that had nothing to offer to her. All he saw in the mirror of her eyes was an exceptional man with a heart laden with fresh blood, beating just for her."
Nevertheless, I really adore the way the author has come up with different avatars of Durga.
After that, the same old story continued. Although, there were many moments which brought the smile way up to my eyes, there were disappointing moments as well for me. But still, I would like to read future works of Priyanka Sharma Kaintura because I had seen tremendous promise in the style of writing.

I haven't read flash fiction in a long time and even though I have had long days with ample melodic poems by my side, Jiffies gave me a bit of both.
A compilation of bite-sized stories and poems, mono's with flash write up's, never losing seasoning while merging all, the book lived up to my expectations. Flash fiction appeals because it gets right to the heart of human experience in just a few words, @priyanka_s_kaintura did an excellent job with getting me in a jiffy.

Brevity with spoonful of surprises, the book is consumable and concise. After conversing with the author, I was able to know more about her psyche and her intention to write this book. I was apprehensive of the fact that it won't live upto my expectations as lauded in the media but I was wrong. Much to my pleasure. A novel from a mosaic of shorter fictions, a saat-toliyo(A game where you balance 7 stones one above the other and then hit it from a distance with a ball, the one who demolishes it completely, wins) - Likewise, Priyanka writes lavishly, 7 embedded tales with emotive vocabulary. A string of jiffies with so many moods, vibrancy and characters.

When you are an observer and someone who reads people like the books on your shelf, when you get down to jog your memory of all that is worth putting out to the world, that's what Priyanka did with the book- I lived with her 'Speak now or forever hold your peace’, ‘Are you mollifying the right Shiva’, Arjun or Bhima, ‘What is Gana of Ganapati’, ‘Women of Chittorgarh’, imagine reading a new narrative with individuality, every page you turn to.

The renderings are cheery, pleasant and chronicled in a very systemic manner. In eclogues, I loved ‘Forgive me; all roads would lead to your heart’
Been a while since I read something like this. Rich in thinking and presentation.

Monologues & dialogues don't always hold my attention so I was taken aback by their additions. But Pathos and the ending section, life aphorisms & epigrams were crimson to my cheeky affair of a week long read of Jiffies. ‘Quit mooning about’, ‘Cream and coffee’, ‘the weather is about to change’ were fresh out of oven! Even though a short read, I savoured my time with it.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Here's what I think:

This book is a collection of short stories (tiny, single page stories), poems, conversations and snippets. Some of them are enjoyable yet some of them are not. Now, the main issue with the book was that I felt that the writer wanted to write something to be published rather than have something worth sharing (or on the contrary wanted to share everything altogether). To me it felt like a series of ramblings and preachings (though some anecdotes inspite of it were interesting). As a reader, I found that the writer was verbose and at times, incapable of conveying things in a simple way. Also, the stories that I enjoyed seemed to end too quickly and the ones I didn't seemed to be too long though none of the stories were longer than a page. I am sorry to say however I felt like I was reading someone's personal diary entries rather than a published book.

My Jiffies by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura is an exceptional book full of emotions and emphasises enough on reality. It is a collection where a reader has a glimpse of the writer's beautiful imagination. The novel is not a traditional short story collection. I am surprised to find that out and really enjoyed this new form of collecting one's writing.

The book is arrange in seven categories that includes Orations, Eclogues, Monologues and Dialogues, Stories, Pathos, Satire and Sarcasm, Life Aphorisms and Epigrams. The words in this book embrace her thoughts, feelings, knowledge she has attained and her personal experiences. Through aforementioned and various form of writings the author has made an effort not to adhere herself to only one theme. She talks about happiness, separations, questions mortality and death, and even is well-learned on Indian mythology.

I have my own favourites from her book which include Her Pointless Conquest, Are you Mollifying the Right Shiva, The Fort and Rain Mask. I recommend you to take a read of these. Her writing is appreciable and flawless. Her choice of words is sublime at times that fits the context and will have a strong and solid impression on a reader. It did on me. It is indeed a gateway to the author's imagination.

This book possess a good amount of surprises and a reader will find them after few pages. I will recommend this book if you are looking for a short and a very different form of writing that is an appraisal in itself.

4 out of 5!

This book is the fruit of a young authors pen to depict the symphony of life through the tales and verses and attempts to be a sweet companion, which eases loneliness and suffering in a tasty backdrop of the conditions that accompanies our whole existence.

We could compare itself to a menu and it is thanks to the themes chosen by the writer that we can peek into the lives of other men and women, who are just like us, who at times are searching for the true love or who are confused, disillusioned or are hopeful.

Some of the protagonists of the book is, in fact, the dark side of the man and of course the woman, who behind the apparent, ordered respectability or overt bonhomie conceals treachery, deception and perversion. But the author is sympathetic and never condemns really, but on the contrary, try a little indulgence for everyone, even the most unpleasant ones are narrated with ruthless humor, and place all of them in small and very small middle class environments, in places tending to the squalid.

Every bite on whichever page your turn will satiate the most demanding reader, but in the end, it will be the only important thing, the same for everyone, that life should be savored bit by bit, just like the narratives and the poems written to perfection and served with love.

It’s difficult to give an unequivocal opinion on the different stories, but all are delicious in their own way. The author has managed to blend in a unique fashion of the themes and tells of the men and women that encompasses the many shades of life.

The author has her own unique style, who manages to do justice to the intent of this anthology that surprises the reader page after page with the rare gift to absorb the reader with an original narrative, or perhaps it would be more correct to say many original narratives, where the people would transmit sensations comforting the insatiable reader through the stories.

Contrary to what you can expect these stories are not truncated opening words or extracts of complex stories but clips from conclusive, ironic and amusing life, with the rhythms of romance, where each one is different in style and form, but all united by the marriage of tales and verses that gives sweet and spicy sensations and emotions with a single secret ingredient called the love.

The tales and verses has declined in a winning recipe artfully combining the flavors and manages to summon the magic that brings to places, people and stories each one different and personal, but all to feast on page after page.

The small truths, including emotional disappointments and many good lines of this anthology can bring a smile to the difficulties. Between hope and courage to face the reality these tales are appetizing to savour one behind the other or re-read when you want to find some kind of serenity and excitement, but with a great emotional impact!

Irony and lightness are the sign that distinguishes the book along with a deep understanding of not only of the soul but also the habits, customs, ways of life, talking and thinking. Every page has something different from the other, meaning that the usual smiling lightness joins a trace of bitterness that inevitably turns into sarcasm and the usual irony.

*Step out Mediator
*Mobile lovers
*Mediocre love
*Quit mooning about

and loads of others .......

The beautiful author PSK has beautifully narrated this handbook. A very different book , kinds you would love to read again and again.

Top Notch!
I received this book as a review copy in exchange of an honest and unbiased review.

This book is divided in seven categories, Orations, Eclogues, Monologues and Dialogues, Stories, Pathos, Satire, Sarcasm and Life Aphorisms and Epigrams.

This book is a light and easy read. After reading the blurb, I was confused as what will the book will be about? It was a very fun read. I loved the short stories and Monologues. I really couldn’t decide a favorite here. I love how the Author has compiled small everyday moments in beautiful stories.

The title is very apt because we tend to forget important moments in life. This is one such book which will tug at your chords. Recommend this book to everyone.

This book is as close to life as it can get. Makes you think of people and instances you left behind. Makes you think of things you could have done or should have done. Stories are relatable and one can visualise self in the plot.

I have received this book from the author in exchange for an honest book review so at first, I would like to thanks her. ‘My jiffies’ as the title itself suggest is a combination of various little moments of the life which get neglected by us. After reading the blurb I thought it would be okay read but to my surprise, this turned out to be an excellent read.

This book is divided into seven sections, orations, eclogues, monologues and dialogues, stories, Pathos, Satire and Sarcasm. Each section is filled with bite-sized stories and poems which you can finish in just five minutes. But the essence will intact with you till the end.

Every story and poem are diverse and rich, leaving a slight smile on your face. I don’t think I could select any one favorite story of this book as I loved each one of them. Then too, I am going to list my most favourite stories by section wise.

I simply loved the orations, ‘Unblemished but hollow’, ‘Speak now or forever hold your peace’, ‘Are you mollifying the right Shiva’, Arjun or Bhima, ‘What is Gana of Ganapati’, ‘Women of Chittorgarh’, ‘Radha plays Krishna’s flute’, ‘All war is based on deception’, ‘Kalptaru of love’. These orations really make sense and will leave you thinking.

In eclogues, I loved ‘You smile on my lips’, ‘What a dolt I was that I wanted to grow old’, ‘The Braided Travelogue’, ‘Forgive me; all roads would lead to your heart’, ‘If I love you, I live you’, ‘Hurricane Katrina’, ‘The red rain’. These powerful snippets depict relationship, love, and turmoil in life.

In Monologues & dialogues, I loved ‘The moss’, ‘Ageless love’, The treasure beneath the rubble’ , What face to wear’, ‘The window’, ‘Mobile lovers’ , ‘Guns’ these hardly one page story is inspired by our daily life where we forget to see the positive side.

From stories, I loved ‘Lily and Tulsi’, ‘The young mango tree’, ‘I will give you wings, Anca’, ‘The train’, ‘Ramadan Kareem’, ‘The glass wall’, ‘Resilient roots’, ‘Fallen cherry blossom’. ‘The nine shades of Durga’ is the most appreciable part of this book, where the author has weaved the stories around the name and nature of the nine devis. I have never read something like this.

In pathos, I loved ‘The housecoat’, ‘The pitter patter’, ‘She sees the grey and she bakes the grey’, ‘Incense from Pattaya’, ‘Rain mask’, ‘What heirlooms?’ These stories are really heart wrenching.
In Satire and sarcasm, I loved ‘Why walk alone’, ‘The dumb kit’, ‘Polite animal people’, ‘Being human’, ‘Where the mind is with fear’.

From the last section, life aphorisms & epigrams, I loved ‘Quit mooning about’, ‘Cream and coffee’, ‘something’, ‘those were the days’, ‘the weather is about to change’.

I think I have never read any anthology like this. Each story, each poem leaves an impact on your mind. I need to admire the perception of the author and her writing skill to manage diverse essence in bite-sized stories. This book could be finished in good 3 to 5 hours, so I suggest reading it in a weekend. Overall, do not miss this book; this book is magical, in my words!

I am not a great fan of books that are in form of anthologies or short stuffs. But few books are really magical which are written with pure heart and feelings. One of such books is written by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura with the name “My Jiffies”. The book is published by Notion Press and comes with the tagline- Narration of moments, Unadulterated and Unpackaged. The book is divided in 7 different categories: Orations, Eclogues, Monologues and Dialogues, Stories, Pathos, Satire and Sarcasm and Life Aphorisms and Epigrams.

The book looks like an extract from authoress’ personal diary which makes you imagine if these are just few percentages of the whole work, then what amount of great stuffs would be still hidden in the full diary. I had never read 4 or 5 sections mentioned in the above paragraph that are major parts of this book but still after reading them, I understood and enjoyed them enough that after the completion of each section I felt like reading more of them. The vocabulary power of the author is clearly evident right from the first page itself which is a boon for the author most of the times but also makes few of her work not understandable to the regular readers of Indian fiction. Her command on the language makes it easy for us to decipher that she is hugely inspired from overseas English writers.

I found the mythology chapters written by the author more intriguing, detailed and captivating than the others. Even the short-stories in the first half are interesting with good endings and deep meanings. The Eclogues is another thought-enriching section in which author shares some of the very beautiful poetries. With each section, the book only grows upon you. The only drawbacks that I find in the books are: The vocabularies at most of the times make it difficult to comprehend what author is trying to say. Few chapters in between of the many beautiful chapters look totally clueless and out of the context. Otherwise, this is one of the few books in this genre that has made me feel comfortable as a reader. The authoress’ jiffies did work for me satisfactorily. I give this book 3.5* out of 5.

Thanks.

For the first time I've read this type of book, and a new kind of feeling washes through you.. Though its like peeking through a personal diary of an author, it leaves you only one thought fully - LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL AND IT IS TO BE CHERISHED AND CELEBRATED!

Lovely pieces of work.. I liked the first three parts and absolutely loved the Eclogues! Beautiful poems to fall in love with!! And to fall in love with LOVE itself, as a matter of fact!

Kudos to the author for having this idea of a book and thanking her for all those lovely moments!!

For having the mindfulness to observe the profound delicacies of the human behavior and the experiences one witnesses need subtlety and wisdom at acme. A perpetual observer needs to differentiate between the "bene" and the "mal" to write down the extreme nature and moreover, describing and delineating beautifully. It took me exactly three days to complete the orations(as I said) and while putting it down, I had a differential respect for the author. Her belief is the facet of the truth. Defining the detoxed relations is an evidence of refined taste and intellect by foretelling the unhandy situations. While putting it down after a read, how many of us actually fall in love with the author? Well, that happened to me.

This is a book which we can read anytime and can start from any chapter. The book offers flexibility in each sense be it our thought process, our beliefs or our value system. The book fits perfectly with all these and adds more to our perception.

The simple things in life are the most important when it comes to happiness and peace. We tend to ignore them on a daily basis. The book offers such simple yet powerful moments which teach us the meaning of existence. The author has done a great job of collating, comparing and concisely conceptualizing each and every jiffy!!!

My Jiffies by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura:

“Why collect all your hopes in one place,
Hoping hope will brighten up your world
Let the light of hope be speckled in unknown spots
So it can surprise you with a twinkle here and a sparkle there
Or simply remain out of sight, keeping your hopes alive”
- Priyanka Sharma Kaintura

My Jiffies by Priyanka Sharma Kaintura is a unique compilation of bite-sized stories and poems. It’s a string of little events, reciting tacit sentiments or messages turned upside down in everyday life, across eras and cultures.
Some come with deep messages, whereas some mock at the emptiness of the materialistic life. The decision, whether chosen emotionally or based on facts, can sometimes be regretted further down the road, but thanks to the resilience of the human spirit, recognizing that a wrong turn was selected will always help the sense of direction when the next crossroad is met.
Some pieces however, could be omitted as they didn’t have much of a message to impart. Nevertheless, tiny little creative pieces such as the ones included in the book, truly offer refreshment from the daily dose of drudgery that stereotype routine life brings along.

Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful!!! There is no other word coming to my mind while thinking about this book. I am still into a different emotional zone wondering how did I happen to be so lucky to stumble upon something like this. It has been a while I have read a book, that too from an Indian author, which is going to stay with me for a long long time.

Author is truly blessed with a talent of beautifying each and every moment, finding positivity in any incident good or bad, seeing relationships maturely and finding solace in penning down all this. Honestly, I don’t even remember when I started or ended with this book, because the in between journey was like a dream, my face to face with reality. I just sailed through.

My Jiffies is divided into seven different segments having collection of bit sized stories, instances, poems, memories, emotions. The stories are a blend of different categories like love, relationships, mythology, nature, life. Some stories funny, some sad, some sarcastic, some love filled and some will touch you hard.

It is very difficult for me to mention my favorites out of all but still some of them will be, ‘Arjun Or Bhima’, ‘Whatever Whatever,’ ‘Are you mollifying the right Shiva,’Women of Chittorgarh, ‘If I love you, I live you’, ‘Lily and Tulsi’, ‘What makes Shiva so desirable?’, ‘Step Out, mediators’, Çhimes and faily lights’, Í smiled inside’, ‘The Ageless love’, Çream and Coffee’. But that one secion of the book which is closest to my heart is ‘The Nine Shades of Durga’.

My Jiffies is like a dish comprising of so many flavors that you can’t get enough of. It is a must read for every one, trust me you will start noticing small small details in every situation you are into.

Dear Priyanka, thank you so much. Your work has compelled my writer’s side to take over and live my own jiffies the way you have lived in each and every chapter, to see regular things in a different light and make a story out of it. Short, crisp yet heart touching.

All in all, My Jiffies is a breath of fresh air.
