Bridget Sway wasn’t exactly expecting a tunnel of white light to beam her up to a heaven filled with cloud cars or angelica harp-playing cherubs when she died, but nor was she expecting a day trip around London on a gloomy tourist bus driven by Charon, the ferryman of the dead ...
I was fourteen when I attempted to write my first novel. Half finished, riddled with spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and printed in pink ink, I gave it to my English teacher and asked her for feedback. A month later she handed it back to me and told me it was "good" without having read it.
How did I know she hadn't read it? The story was about an assassin for hire who disposed of her "kills" in her bathtub by dissolving their remains in sulphuric acid. I'm pretty sure if she had read it, one heck of a letter would have been sent home. I look back at this now and can see that the pink ink and poor spelling were the least of my problems.
With the lack of constructive criticism from my English teacher, I placed my novel writing on hold. I dallied mainly with typical teenage, angst-ridden poetry until several years later, on a romantic whim, I turned a boy I knew into a superhero, literarily (not literally) speaking. Because I'm super awesome, I included some of his friends and chronicled their superhero adventures as a birthday present to him.
My relationship with the superhero version of the boy lasted the completion of a dozen short stories. My relationship with the real life boy didn't. And I was writing pretty dang quick too!
There were a couple more plot twists but since they don't involve radioactive spiders, magical wardrobes or handsome Tolkien-esque elves they're not really worth talking about! So that's pretty much the yellow brick road to how I got here.
Just a Touch Dead is the prequel to the Bridget Sway series which is a paranormal ghost cozy mystery series. It’s a quick fun intro to Bridget and her introduction to the afterlife. It’s an entertaining, laugh out loud funny read and it made me want to pick up book 1 immediately… which I did! I won’t give away any spoilers, but I will say this is definitely a must-read for any cozy mystery fans out there!!
Charon rounded Bridget Sway & 43 other souls & took them to a windowless yellow painted room. Sean the Afterlife Induction Officer introduced himself. Delilah is the guide for one’s continuing journey. What would Brigit’s new job title be?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written paranormal (novella) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.

For a novella and introduction to what will hopefully be a good series Just a Touch Dead is a good quick read. Bridget doesn't want to believe she's dead and goes through the underworld induction believing she was on a day trip from her body
Just a Touch Dead is a novella to introduce you to a new series. The author has created an interesting storyline. The main character is dead but refuses to believe that she is. There are some humorous moments to make you laugh out loud. I'm sure this will be an entertaining series to read!
Charon literally chauffeurs the dead to the afterlife, driving them through London in a bus. There, the dead meet their Afterlife Induction Officer, who has them fill out paperwork (is this hell?) then throw it down the chute...at the bottom of which, they then have to pick it up. Truly administrative hell. This whole time, Bridget Sway believes she's just here for a spell, not truly dead but just waiting till the docs fix her up and she can pop back in her body. In the beginning, she kind of goes along with it, thinking there'll be a secret extra door for here along the way through which she'll head back to life...after a while, I think even she figures it out and fights back, encouraging a few of her fellow drones to follow suit.
I received a free download for signing up for the author's newsletter.
Bridget Sway is having a bad day. She was hit by a bus and now Charon, the ferryman for the dead, picks her up in a bus to take her for a day trip. But the day trip turns out to a one way trip to the afterlife. The afterlife life seems to be endless forms and waiting in line. To make matters worse, almost everyone else seem to be mindless zombies (think office worker zombie instead of brain munching zombie). The few that aren't keep seeming to be dragged away by mysterious masked men.
This fills in the gap of time between Bridget's death and the start of the first book. It is hard to believe that abook that is mainly about filling in forms, waiting in line, and dealing with petty officials could be this funny but this one does pull it off.
This isn't a full length novel.(I think it qualifies it as a novella.) It also doesn't have a mystery but it is a nice introduction to the afterlife and Bridget.
I loved this little book! Jordaina Sydney Robinson has a wonderful sense of humor. Throughout the book it continues to bubble through causing smiles and laughter at Bridget’s expense. Ask yourself the question: how would I react if people said I was truly dead?
This is just the prequel to the second book or rather book one in the series entitled Beyond Dead; and based on this book the series will be a smash hit for sure!!
If you want a fun story to read that is sure to get you hooked on the entire series here it is! In this world where all one hears constantly is doom and gloom from politicians and the media this is the perfect escape vehicle.
I can’t wait to jump in with Beyond Dead next. It’s going to be a fun ride for sure! Kudos Jordaina for a wonderful beginning to a very successful series I’m sure!
Bridget Sway wasn't exactly expecting a tunnel of white light to beam her up to a heaven filled with cloud cars or angelica harp-playing cherubs when she died, but nor was she expecting a day trip around London on a gloomy tourist bus driven by Charon, the ferryman of the dead ...
This the prequel novella to the Bridget Sway series. This little novella is so funny. The main character is called Bridget Sway. She has died but is refusing to believe it. What happens when you die as depicted here is where the fun and humour happen. This is the prequel to Bridget Sways' afterlife and highly recommend reading!
It turns out that being dead isn't just about heaven and hell. There's another layer - AND YOU HAVE TO WORK!!
Some of the dead act as kind of guardian angels watching over people, others spend time working with mediums, others just move things to cause confusion for the living.
It's not clear why some people get to go straight to heaven but it doesn't matter. Life/death still lets you make good friends.
This brief novella is the introduction to Bridget Sway's after-life. From being run over to a bus, brought to the after-life by a tourist bus, and assigned a job, things aren't working out quite like Bridget thought they would. What a hoot to experience this change of life to death status through Bridget's eyes! Way to go JSR! Can't wait to read more!
I've read book one so this, book .5, was a fun way to find out about Bridget's death and induction into the afterlife. It's very short but tells you all you need to know about how insane the bureaucracy is, even in death.
This felt much more like Chapter 1 of a first in series novel than an actual novella, but what fun it was. Definitely a "teaser" for the series. Bridget sounds like a fun character.
Oh, so that's how all of this started. This is an awesome series. I promise you, read one book and you'll be hooked. How can you not love Bridget's sarcasm and quick wit
This is a prequel story to the Bridget Sway series. Bridget doesn't believe she has died and she goes through the under world induction believing she is having an out of body experience.
This little novella is the prequel to series of ebooks about, well, a ghost or spirit. This one chronicles the main character of this series journey from life to death to government employment. It gives a decent introduction to the main character herself and the environment she now inhabits.
I don't know if I'll be checking out the rest of the series, mostly because I have plenty to read already, but it is an interesting concept and it was entertaining.
The writing was good. The character had enough character to be intriguing. It WAS a novella, so I'll forgive it for the abrupt ending lacking in any resolution. I think I'll try another.
Death or the ride to death can be funny as hell, just ask Bridget. Bridget got hit by a bus. Another bus. a double decker is the way Charon, the ferry man picks up the dead, or are they dead?
