"Ellery Queen" was a pen name created and shared by two cousins, Frederic Dannay (1905-1982) and Manfred B. Lee (1905-1971), as well as the name of their most famous detective. Born in Brooklyn, they spent forty two years writing, editing, and anthologizing under the name, gaining a reputation as the foremost American authors of the Golden Age "fair play" mystery.

Although eventually famous on television and radio, Queen's first appearance came in 1928 when the cousins won a mystery-writing contest with the book that would eventually be published as The Roman Hat Mystery. Their character was an amateur detective who used his spare time to assist his police inspector father in solving baffling crimes. Besides writing the Queen novels, Dannay and Lee cofounded Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, one of the most influential crime publications of all time. Although Dannay outlived his cousin by nine years, he retired Queen upon Lee's death.

Several of the later "Ellery Queen" books were written by other authors, including Jack Vance, Avram Davidson, and Theodore Sturgeon.

2 1/2 stars. This book surprised me. I was expecting a mind-bender like the Ellery Queen mysteries but this is more of a thriller/spy/hard detective story. There is a mystery that you can figure out but it reads more like a pulp or hard-boiled detective story than what I am use to from this writer. Not bad for its type, just not what I was expecting.

A short read with an interesting plot. I'll give the Ellerys props that I couldn't guess what was happening, but the weird way the women were treated in the plot made me like it less than the previous book. The racism was also pretty atrocious.

Audiobook 4 - another Tim Corrigon and this one was pure 1960’s descrive style. A ‘spy’ is killed but made to look like suicide. Some good misdirection in the plot of this who done it.

Il protagonista della storia non è il famoso Ellery, ma il poliziotto Tom Corrigan.
Un storia a metà tra il giallo e lo spionaggio, alla fine le spy-story si mescolano sempre con altri generi letterari, come il giallo, il thriller, l’avventura e talvolta anche la fantascienza.
Il protagonista dovrà trovare il suo assassino, districandosi tra intrighi politici e crimine, arriverà alla soluzione del caso, ma l'autore (gli autori 😏) non aiutano il lettore con alcun indizio... o quasi. La lettura è scorrevole e lo consiglio agli amanti del genere giallo.
