A fun fantasy romp that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a very generic fantasy plot, but Ram V knows exactly how much to embrace tropes and how much to subvert. The art is a bit amateurish looking, but it still feels extremely dynamic, and I was a fan by the end. It fit the tone of the story quite well. I'm looking forward to the sequel and wondering how they'll maintain the tone with a different, much more serious, artist.

This was a surprisingly good fantasy story. It's a classic tale of a band of cut throats and thieves on a quest to recover a mystical artifact. There's some intrigue thrown in as forces are at work both help and hinder them.

The art at first didn't seem to fit but as the story went along it ended up fitting very well.

Overall an above average fantasy graphic novel.

A lot of fantasy comics aim for the epic sweep of classics of the genre, and invariably fall short. Brigands takes the opposite approach, compressing plot and context very severely in a way that owes more to classic sword and sorcery (and perhaps Dungeons & Dragons) than JRR Tolkein, and feels more easily suited to the breakneck pace of comicbook storytelling. It is a delight, in other words. The cartoony art style, which is bright but very simple, suits the style of the story, where the emphasis is on a rapidly developing plot and dasterdly deeds rather than an opulent fantasy world. The book assumes you understand the conventions of the genre and its stock characters, and rolls right ahead without spoonfeeding you the detail. Very well put together, and a lot of fun.

It's a good enough story. the plot is decent enough. The weakness of this book is how it ends, which is on a cliffhanger and up to this point, there's no Vol 2 and it feels like the story just got started. The characters are interesting and I did like the main two. Mostly I just wanted more but now I don't know that if I did find the second volume that I would actually take the time to pick it up.
Also, I felt a little cheated out of the artwork as the covers are brilliantly painted yet the inside art is cartoonish and the characters are sometimes hard to distinguish.

What a fun book! It has what a good fantasy story must have: A nice group with different personalities, a leading character with a smart getaway of everything, and a nice plot developing on the background. I believe Ram V is one of the greastest writers in activity these days. Very clever reading.

My only concearn on this book is the art. I mean, it's pretty, but, for me, specially with the covers, looked a little bit lazy. But nothing that will compromisse you're reading through the book. Give it a try!

Getting the Band Together

Pretty much an origin story for a D&D campaign. Ironically, it is better to read the follow-up first, then this. Partly because the artworks always changing between issues. But we get to know these characters and see what was missing in the follow-up. Like what the big prize is, especially how much stakes are going into it. Makes rereading everything easier to get through.

2024 reread

Brigands is a book I always enjoy coming back to reread - kind of a medieval Suicide Squad with some D&D elements thrown in for good measure, this is an immediately accessible and engaging series with a great cast of characters. The artwork, which starts off very strong does feel a little rushed at times towards the end of the book - but otherwise a great first volume in the series.

Now where do we petition for Ram V to write the third part of the trilogy?
