The Do-Over

Rate this book
Sometimes, one degree is all that separates you from the one you were meant to be with Wes Bergman was sex on a stick. We’d been circling one another our entire lives, mingling at the same clubs... attending the same events… sharing mutual acquaintances… yet we’d never actually met. Until… we both boarded a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean. And it was like meeting my long, lost best friend for the first time. I hadn’t ever connected with a guy that way before. But Wes had a girlfriend. So, when the week was over, he walked off the ship, unknowingly taking a piece of my heart with him. Now, over a decade later, newly divorced, I’m the proverbial fish out of water. Dating has totally changed. Apps. Swipe left. Swipe right. Catfishing. Men my age want two twenty-five-year-olds—like my ex’s new child bride of a wife—or just a quick hook-up. After a string of bad dates, I finally did something I never thought I’d do. I had a hot one-night stand with a really handsome guy I met online who didn’t even know my real name. Turned out Mr. Fling is a big shot for my company’s newest client. And just my luck, that client’s CEO is none other than... Wes Bergman. Now I’m separated by one degree again from the man who stole my heart. And Mr. Fling could destroy my chance of what I want most – a Do-Over with Wes

Be still my beating heart as Wes Bergman sweeps readers off their feet. If there is ever a story that makes you a believer in second chances, fate, destiny and what not then The Do-Over by Julie Richman is definitely the book for you.

photo 94fca87344677e1846d9b33e0c272c_zpsngtt0zxj.gif Wes Bergman would always be my big What If. And I wanted a do-over.”

The Do-Over is one of those reads that you can easily get lost in as you immerse yourself into these characters that Richman creates. A chance meeting of two strangers who easily felt the connection. The spark. The whole shebang. When Tara and Wes met, it was like they knew instantly that there was something brewing between them but as circumstance would have it, they both went on their separate ways. Fast forward to many years later, kismet or in this case of unforeseen luck, Tara and West are reunited once again. And this time, will Tara and West be circling the possibility of “what if” or will they finally see that second chances at life and love do exist for a reason. When one door closes, does another one open? And the answer to that is simple. Of course, open as many doors you want till you finally get the right one.

If you are looking for that feel good book that will make you see that life is filled with many chapters, some good some bad, but the final chapters is what you make of it then The Do-Over by Julie Richman is the book for you. With her heartfelt and gripping prose, she allows you to go along that journey called life and embrace every facets of it. The good and the bad. And of course those moments we want to do over again.

Overall Opinion: This was an ok read. I love second-chance romances or the "missed opportunity" type stories, so this was right up my alley. I did feel like there was a lot of time wasted even after being reunited. When they did finally get together is was very lovey-dovey! I know I probably sound like a grumpy reader here, but it was a little too gushy for my liking. It also seemed like their dialogue was really repetitive. I mean, how many times to they need to say that they are glad the get a do-over?!? It just turned a little cheesy at that point. Then we had to have some drama thrown in to separate them *eyes roll*. Don't get me wrong -- I didn't hate it. I just didn't love it either :/

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Tara and Wes's story. They meet on a cruise and hit it off immediately as if they've known each other for years. Unfortunately the timing isn't right for them, because Wes has a girlfriend back in California where Tara lives in New York. ~16 years later, they are reunited when Tara's workplace is hired to make some PSAs for Wes's new business. Again the timing is off, because Wes has a girlfriend. There is also the fact that just before reuniting, Tara unknowingly had a ONS with his best friend and co-worker. There are some big obstacles that they have to get through to get the timing just right, there are some sexy and funny times, and some sad moments...but they do get a HFN ending.

POV: This was told in Tara's POV. I do think it would've added to the story to get some of Wes's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: Not really, but an instant connection for sure.

H rating: 4 stars. Wes. I liked him. I really loved how he was with the h's daughter!

h rating: 4 stars. Tara. I liked her. I liked her relationship with her friends, daughter and the H.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull:Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry and scenes, but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Not really

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes

Cheating: Not with the mcs.

Separation:

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This didn't have enough closure for me. We do get a cute jump ahead epilogue, but there weren't any concrete commitments made. I would call this a HFN ending.

How I got it: It was part of my scribed subscription.

Safety: This one is probably Safe with exception for most safety gang readers

It's really cold where I live. The kind of cold where standing outside give you frosty eyelashes and makes you look like a magical fairy which would be cool except that basically means the moisture in your eyes has frozen and your phone quits if you try to take a selfie and frost on eyelashes melts quite quickly so forget about attempting it inside. What good are frosty eyelashes without photo evidence? Did they EVEN exist?

I bring this up because it's a good segue. It's so cold I think half of my brain might be frozen, and I'm living in fear for what this means because it actually gets way worse here, it's just this feels like it came out of nowhere but it's December so who can really say that because December and January and February where I live are usually goddamn awful. Where was I? Oh, frozen brain. So part of my brain is no longer working, so that's the only excuse I have for finishing this book because it was kind of like
"I walked my dog and then it peed and I wondered what my daughter was doing. Once I met this guy and we were 22 and now I'm nearly 40 but he was a catch. Timing was all wrong though, he had a girlfriend and sometimes my divorced self still feels a little desperate for him. So then I saw him later and we hooked up. I have the personality of cardboard. I think it might be this writing. This man has a weird relationship with my daughter. I don't question it because we stayed up till dawn when we were 22. He's really sexy, and I'm going to describe one of the worst written sex scenes of all times. You will think it sounds sexy how we got it on on the terrace, but it really sounds clinical with some racy words. It makes me sad to think about it. I'm going to see him at a gala. I love him. My best friend has great tits."

There, I've saved you all the time. She didn't really have a dog. But if she did, she would have been boring about it.

A compelling love story that bridges time and circumstance, in a romance that will take your breath away, and leave you believing that soul mates truly do exist.

If you have feelings you will cry, so just make sure you have some tissues with you when you're curled up with this baby. You'll also laugh, want to throttle a couple of characters, cheer when retribution rains down, and cry some more when things happen that are just beyond control and circumstance.

I love how real this book felt. It deals with real issues, real human struggles and real possibility to rediscover lost love. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it.

I liked it, just didn't love it. Not sure why as I like a second chance romance. I thought he was a bit too perfect. They were a bit immature at times and I thought some of her actions seemed totally out of character.

Of course I love when musical references are thrown into books but even that didn't do it for me this time. Not even the Springsteen reference. Sorry Julie.

"Well you can't always get what you want."

I read the "Moore" series by this author a few years back and really enjoyed. I guess my reading habits have changed a bit.

There were some sad parts.

ONE OF THE BEST SECOND AND THIRD CHANCE AT LOVE BOOKS EVER! I loved every minute -- even though there were some very stressful moments and a character I detested and wished he would feel a dozen pin sticks in his hide! A beautiful story of love in so many varieties on the high sea. A man who most definitely will have you swooning at each turn and a woman who deserves rave reviews for her strength of character - even when she's doing some really stupid stuff -- a best friend who wins hands down in the friend category, along with a teenage Princess that is mature beyond her years and steals a few hearts along the way. The story has defining moments as it deals with some very serious subject matters. The floodgates of emotions flow throughout this storyline. There is a so much to love from cover to cover. Julie Richman is a new to me author, and this is the first time I've read one of her books -- but it certainly won't be the last.

And a "do-over" is certainly in the cards for this one!

5 "like literally" Stars!!!!

If you believe in destiny this book is for you!!!!

This is my first Julie Richman book and although I have several on my TBR her books were really not on my radar as a priority…………….I can tell you after reading The Do-Over I will bump the importance of her books.

It has been awhile since I considered a book as an “OUTSTANDING” read but this book absolutely fits in that category. It grabs you from the very beginning and doesn’t let go.

Have you ever met anyone and right at the very get go you feel the connection? Well, this is exactly what happened to Tara & Wes but it wasn’t their time. Fortunately their paths cross again many years later and although they could both use a friend too much time and too much life happening might be in the way of a successful relationship.

Lovely story even with all the heartbreak.

In my reading opinion, not every author can pull off a great second chance love story but Julie Richman seems to be able to do it effortlessly.

This is a story about the one degree of separation you can have with someone but never quite make the connection complete. Have you ever met someone and just clicked, only to find out they are not single or perhaps you weren't at the time. Right person but just bad timing. Do you ever think about them still?

Tara and Wes meet on a cruise when they are in their early 20's. They spend one incredible night together just talking about anything and everything. They have so much in common and seem to be made for each other. However, Wes has a girlfriend back home and they will never see each other again after they get off the boat.

Yet, fifteen years or so later, Tara is newly divorced with a teenage daughter when her path once again crosses with Wes. He is even more handsome than she remembered, the years have been kind to him. He is just as sweet and charismatic as she remembers. The connection they felt back then is still there. They will be working together on a professional level but it doesn't take long before things between them begins to morph into more than just friendship. Maybe these two can really have a do-over.

Wes is incredibly sweet with Tara's daughter, Scarlett and things just seem to be falling into place with them. However, there are a few road bumps they are going to need to navigate if they want to make this a permanent thing. There is one guy who seems hell bent on keeping them apart and he is a nasty piece of work. Nothing worth fighting for ever comes easy and Tara is determined to hold on tight to this second chance with Wes.

This was so easy to read, I loved the characters and a few familiar names from other books made a small cameo appearance too!

This is a story of soul mates...of two people who traveled similar parallel paths but never met...until their paths finally converged. On one magical night they had an intense connection that held promise...but was never fully realized. They were each other's one that got away.

And years later, their paths cross again with a chance for a do-over. But it seems the universe is out to get these two as each time they seem to get a chance, there seems to be at least one potential barrier. These two who seemed destined to be together, yet the timing or circumstances cause issues. Sometimes by other's interference or just their mere presence. Sometimes it is due to misunderstandings, miscommunication, or fears.

Tara and Wes met in their twenties, then lived their own lives and reconnected in their late thirties. So their story spans a good chunk of time. Tara is now an independent, hardworking, devoted mom who has never been good with men. She's been divorced, hurt, demeaned, and ignored. And she is not harboring much hope of meeting Mr. Right again despite her attempts at putting herself out there in the world of online dating and social events.

Wes has been through some serious situations that have both destroyed him, but also gave him new purpose. He's charismatic, caring, intense, and thoughtful. He's a good guy, but is so loyal that sometimes he can be manipulated.

I really liked both Tara and Wes. She really needed to gain confidence and to fight for her own needs, and knew she did not want to settle. And Wes could be so sweet and swoony, but he was not perfect. He made mistakes and could have strong reactions. Their flaws and mistakes make them more relatable. The story is believable. It's real life. It's messy, chaotic, and can change quickly. It's the dynamics of friends, family, exes, and the horrors of divorce, dating, and loss. But it gives you hope that there can be good things coming if you just keep believing that it is possible, even if you might have to fight for it.

This is story of second chances, healing, and true connections. But there is nothing easy about it. It builds slowly and ramps up tension waiting for the inevitable to happen, but the beginning does fully set the stage for the story. It spans a significant amount of time. It takes more than being in each other's presence again for a true do-over. It requires trust, faith, work, and hope that the other has good intentions and can be counted on. These two had quite a journey trying to find out if the person they met years ago was truly their soul mate or just someone whose path they might cross from time to time.

Julie A. Richman has this way of creating characters that feel real... they tug at your heart, but they can also make you laugh or at times frustrate you. This had an interesting smattering of side characters including a few familiar names and faces that made me smile. I liked her vivacious friend, Laynie, and her daughter, Scarlett. His sister, Stacy, was a firecracker. There were some antagonists that made me want to smack them....seriously...like hard. The relationships that developed between the main couple and two of the important side characters were also relevant to the overall love story adding even more depth of feeling. And this book champions a cause that is so important and relevant to so many. And I think it was handled very well.

Overall, this is is a humorous, heartbreaking, heartwarming, romantic, emotional, and believable second-chance love story. I liked the fact that they were more mature characters and had life experience and imperfect pasts. I found myself immersed in their lives and hoping for the best even when things were looking a bit rocky. And it demonstrates that each connection you make in life might have some significance and that you never know how or when it might become clear.

The Do-Over by Julie Richman had me hooked from the first page and I read it in one sitting.

Tara Collins and Wes Bergman met in their early twenty’s on vacation aboard a cruise. They had a strong connection but the timing was off. Fast forward fifteen plus years later and they met again.

I loved the characters and I’m always a sucker for second chances. It wasn’t the typical second chance story, but I’ve learned not to expect the standard story with Richman’s writings; which was a plus.

The storyline was written from a single POV, Tara’s, so Richman took us through her entire life from her perspective. I would have liked to have Wes’s perspective at times, but the mystery was part of what kept it interesting. As a supporting storyline, Richman captured the impact of breast cancer on patients, families, friends and survivors. It was an emotional tale and added depth and dimension to the storyline. She also sprinkled humor throughout, and I loved the inclusion of the Poppet Dolls.

In the end, it was an emotional journey of healing, hope, love and new beginnings. It also opened up some great possibilities for other stories to be told as well. Whatever Richman chooses next, I’m all in.

5 kicker stars!

First of all let's all make a prayer in all religions and languages for those who are fighting cancer(I know you're brave and will kick that asshole's ass), those who won the battle (Thank you for teaching us never to loose hope) and those who lost it (You're always in our hearts).

The Do-Over is the book I'm sure as hell you will read and will never be able to forget especially when you're no longer a twenty something.

description

Forget about billionaires with private jets... A boat can do :)

Forget about alpha heroes with toned muscles, six abs and eight-inch cocks...

Forget about assholes and sassy heroines...

This isn't a story you come across everyday.

This is a unique breathtaking story that will fill your heart with emotions that it will want to burst.

The story started when Tara and Wes were in their twenties.

On a trip to the Caribbean, Tara met Wes and both found out they had the same tastes, went to the same parties, clubs and events but never met before.

“..it was Wes. Wes who spent his life one degree of separation from me.”

After a fabulous night under the sky chatting and enjoying the beauty of the night, Wes and Tara had to part ways.

“As I blindly stared at the view above the clouds, I became distraught at the realization that I would never know what Wes’ lips tasted like, and the infinite sadness I felt because of that, overwhelmed me.
Wes Bergman would always be my big What If.
And I wanted a do-over.”

Fifteen years later, fate brought them back together but the reckless thing Tara made was more than their sweet connection could handle.

“My heart seared with the pain of losing him again, except this time I wasn’t calling his name, trying to get his attention. Maybe we were always meant to stay on our respective sides of the bridge, running parallel, but leading separate lives.”

This book is about a thirty nine years old woman who got her second chance at true love teaching us readers, that love is always there and that it's never too late to find it.

made my heart smile 5 fantastic stars.
What has made me a Julie Richman fan is her ability to weave in the real life stuff (problems) without bringing us down. She doesn't make over-the-top unattainable characters who a reader can't relate about. She doesn't delve into every woman's romantic fantasy that no reader has a hope in ever of having. Nope. She gives us real people with real jobs and real problems. She makes us embrace who we are, where we've come from and where we're going. If you inserted your name into a Julie Richman story, you would still swoon, laugh, cry, over, hate and everything in between.
When you read one of her books you get all the feels and your heart is reminded that even us regular everyday people are worth the swoon moments and the love that her characters have-- and that we can have that or in fact do have that.
The Do-Over like most Richman novels sets itself up with characters who are in their thirties and forties. I absolutely love this aspect of her books. It's one reason why I always read her books. Another reason and probably the foremost reason, is that the problems her characters have to navigate through are ones that almost every single one of us readers has been affected by or knows someone that has. In her words, you can tell that Richman writes from the heart and has knowledge about the subjects she is writing about.
The Do-Over is a story that melts your heart not your panties although Wes is definitely panty-melting worthy. But this story isn't about the gratuitous sex, it's about matters of the heart, it's about true love and personal connections that remain loyal and forever. I love this slow-burn or forever-burn type of story. While you may not be panting with a physical intensity, your heart is forever snagged by Richman's words. Not to mention, this book is for real laugh out loud, giggle-snort funny. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to go to the dentist again with out laughing just a little.
If you're a lover of books about love-- not romance, not sex, but true love then this is the story for you. It is one of those stories that will forever remain in your heart and you mind. Do yourself a favour and one-click.

My First Top Pick of 2017!!!
Julie Richman has done it again with The Do-Over. She has created another magnum opus! I completely connected with this book on such a personal and emotional level. It was literally mind blowing.... Did you ever relate to book so much, that you feel like the author crawled inside your head? That's how I felt with The Do-Over. Julie painted this storyline with such vivid details, I could not help but live inside this book. Couple that with all the vivacious characters and I was a goner... I fell hopelessly in love with it all and felt a barrage of emotions throughout.... From butterflies to deep sorrow to pure joy.... This book had it all. It's just another perfect example of Julie's stellar writing.

I found The Do-over to be a mature adult book. It is not filled with childish scenarios or outlandish behavior. It's about seemingly real people with real life problems. Every woman can relate to Tara and every woman wants a Wes..... Wes & Tara just thinking about them makes me smile. They are the epitome of soulmates.... Their love story is one not to be missed. It is utterly spellbinding!!!! Read this book.

The Do-Over by Julie Richman
4.5 stars!!!

“Wes Bergman knew exactly what he had just done. It was finally our time.”

Julie Richman never fails to deliver for me, she has this uncanny knack of bringing real life characters, in real life situations to life with ease. With normal struggles, normal feelings and situations you can relate to without all the pomp, glitz and glamour. Her knack for digging into every emotional fibre I possess is still ever present and without a doubt is still a certainty to make me cry in every single book, such is the emotional connection I always have with her characters and once again, she didn’t disappoint.

“With Wes, it was like he was intricately woven through my heart and soul in a way that could never be separated without irreparable damage being done…”

Another thing I love about a Julie Richman book…my generation…couples in their thirties and forties that still deserve their happy ever after. As much as I love reading about my younger counterparts, to witness a love story where the couples are older and wiser is refreshing and is something that my heart can relate to even more than usual. This age group is not so well presented in the romance genre, but when one does come along I grab it with both hands.

Julie Richman is a mature writer, her style I can always identify just by reading a few paragraphs, life experience floods through every page and as such a lot of the immature problems that often litter romance reads are never present. I love the way that she builds up her stories, always enough background to whet every appetite and one that garners a great understanding of her characters. While her pace is never fast, every, slow, delicious chapter is one that I digest with glee as these characters become my friends and Julie Richman takes you along as a willing voyeur for the ride.

We normally all have the “one that got away.” That one person you meet, or maybe had a relationship with but for some reason it didn’t work out at the time. The one that you always wonder...what if? Your lives may not have been aligned at the time, but the connection always stays. The soul mate, the one that you always look back on as a benchmark for others. A connection unrivalled no matter how fleeting. That was the case for Wes Bergman and Tara Collins. I don’t want to go into details because the synopsis says enough but once again, Julie Richman gives you a story from the heart, a story for the heart. This is a real romance story, no gratuitous sex, just deep and meaningfuls (apart from a one night stand before they meet).

“Tara and I tend to travel the same path one degree of separation apart, and at times, our paths converge. This is one of those times.”

This is when fate and kismet grants you a do-over. Will it live up to expectations, are the pedestals a figment of imagination or is the person truly worthy. Is that connection still there? Still electric? Still combustible? Is that soul connection a dream or a reality, will twenty years erase it, is it forgotten? What happens when for once, your lives are aligned?

“This is a gift. It really is. You see, you were the best boyfriend I never had.”

Julie Richman delivers a heart-warming and heart-destroying read. Where bumps are there to test and Julie’s exquisite emotional words wring every tear from your tear ducts with effortless ease. Julie Richman’s knack to make me cry went into overload in this book as she tests our couple’s strength and makes them stronger. If you are a weeper like me, you will need tissues, but these are speedbumps, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger after all. A stunning read once again, one that played out in vivid emotional technicolour and once again, characters that you will be reticent to leave behind.

“Thank God we got a do-over.”

Do you know what I love about Julie Richman’s writing? Everything! The Do Over was a heartfelt, realistic second chance romance. If you don’t believe in fate and soulmates, you will after reading this book. The Do Over will pull on your heartstrings from the first to the last page. Fans of the Searching for Moore series will fall in love with Wes and Tara. I adored this 30-something love story!

DNF at 45% (skimming all throughout)

The first 2 chapters were okay then I found myself skipping through the rest. Then as I neared the middle of the book, I decided I was wasting my time and realized I could be reading a better written book and so I stopped.

I'm not too sure why this book has so many 4 to 5 star ratings, to be honest. But maybe that's a matter of personal taste. *shrugs* I couldn't connect to the characters (both of whom I was annoyed with) or to the story, which I found to be not well-paced and skippy.

Deleting this from my Kindle.

The whole Julian storyline was so stupid. You don't really get to understand why he is the way he is. Why does he hate the main character? (I forget her name). Why does Wes keep him around or stay friends with him? He doesn't even seem like he's smart enough to help Wes run his company so why is he his right hand man? There's just so many missing pieces in this and it's just too bad bc it could've been so much better.

I really can't explain what it was that didn't make me like this story more. I wanted to but found myself skipping pages and couldn't wait to be finished with it.

I enjoyed this book, a lot. I loved the idea of the missed opportunities and the intersection of those opportunities.

There is a lot of angst in this book, as you watch Wes and Tara struggle with their initial meeting, the missed opportunity, running in to one another again, their relationship status, their families, and the feelings they have for one another.

They had wonderful chemistry, and I love how real and genuine their initial meeting felt. It seemed like the way it happens in real life, you meet someone who you just connect with. You talk for hours, you don't notice the passing of time, and you feel more connected to them than you should considering how long you have known them.

But, this book is about missing chances, about your life going in a different direction, about wondering and what ifs that are presented when life leads you around and back to the same person again. Do you take the risk?

I adored that they were one degree of separation from one another, and that their lives were on a parallel path, even though they did not intersect.

There is a definite breast cancer subplot, and it is heart-wrenching. I actually struggled a bit with wondering if maybe it was too intense for the romance I was reading, but at the same time it works. And, it lends a depth to the story that really grabs you and makes you see not only life from Wes and Tara's eyes, but also allows you to see the person they are underneath all of the things they let others see.

The chemistry with Wes and Tara is real. And, they treat one another the way I think you would in the same situation. With a reverence that is brought from the fact that it took them almost 15 years to get to where they are now, but with the joy of a newly explored love as well.

I enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend it.

This is a wonderful story about Wes & Tara who meet the first day while on a cruise, find that they love the same things, were at the same concerts, same restaurants, lived in the same New York neighbourhood with just one degree of separation. They are both in their 20's, should have crossed paths but didn't until now. They spend an entire night on deck talking until the wee hours of the morning until sleep beckons. Their attraction & connection is intercepted by Wes' sister who has an instant dislike for Tara. She keeps them apart for the remainder of the trip & they never have a chance to say goodbye. Fifteen years later they meet again, this time in New York during a business meeting. A lot can change in fifteen years & it has. There is still a lingering flame between them but it takes some time for them to find their way. This book has humour, tragedy, seedy characters, (well...one in particular) & the author digs deep to show us how deeply this couple cares for each other & also what wonderful people they really are. This is a stand-alone with no cliffhangers. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

The Do-Over was something special. Wonderful story, wonderful characters!
This book is about second chances, fate, loss and LOVE.

Tara met Wes on a cruise ship when she was travelling alone. They clicked straight away, it was like they had known each other all their lives. They were attracted to each other, they were made for each other but Wes had a girlfriend… Their story stopped when they disembarked the cruise ship.

“You know we have been like one-degree of separation people our whole lives.”

10 years later, Tara is in her late thirties, divorced and a mum. She is insecure, funny, caring and sweet and most of all endearing. She is easy to identify with because she’s so real. Laynie her friend helps her to find love online but things don’t go as planned for Tara.

“I wanted to share my life with someone who just got me, someone who I could laugh with, someone who would hold me when I cried, someone who would show up with a bunch of blue hydrangeas just because”

Everything changes when her path crosses with Wes again at a business meeting.

“Wes Bergman would always be my big What If. And I wanted a do-over.”

WES!!! I love him so so much. We experienced heart breaking moments in Wes’s life and we can’t help but loving his character even more. The way Wes bond with Tara’s daughter …. made my heart melt. He is caring, thoughtful and devoted - a real Gentleman and the embodiment of ROMANTICISM.

“I’ve never greeted the morning light with anyone but you.”

The secondary characters play a momentous role in the story- the dialogue, the banter and emotion.

Now that Wes and Tara found their way back to each other , is it time for them to follow their heart? Will they get their second chance at love?

”With Wes, it was like he was intricately woven through my heart and soul in a way that could never be separated without irreparable damage being done. “

The Do-Over is more than a love story- it is a story of people facing tragedies in their life, of people learning to carry on living. The Do- Over is a story that deserves to be read

As usual, Julie has created believable, mature, real characters dealing with the horrors of modern dating, including internet and dating app nightmares, and the difficulty of finding the right match despite time and effort.

Wes is a good man. Plain and simple. His attempts to connect with Tara’s daughter even as he and Tara are facing their own challenges only highlighted what a great man he truly was. From the very first introduction to him, I was rooting for him and Tara to figure things out. When challenges cropped up, including the times (yes, multiple) they were living nearly parallel lives, I couldn’t help but wish their paths would take that slight jog in order to meet up once again.

If I have one complaint about this story, it was that I wish there wasn’t as much time between their meetups. Not so much in a fictional time sense, but I grew tired of reading about Tara’s failed dating attempts, and her encounters with Matthew left me particularly disgusted with the dating scene. I wanted Tara and Wes to find each other again, so each man that wasn’t him just irked me and didn’t sit quite right. While I would say this book had a slower start due to the dating woes, once things picked up and fell into place, I was hooked on these two.

In the background of this story is a weight to the issue of supporting breast cancer survivors, families, and each life touched by this illness. Both the handling of characters with the disease and the connection the characters found through the support of these women was one factor that I particularly loved about this story. From Wes’s products to the fundraiser Tara helped him put on, there is a focus on lifting women up and helping them through adversity that resonated.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

JULIE! JULIE! JULIE! You never cease to amaze me with your stories!!! The Do-Over is another one to add to your list of awesomeness!! I couldn't put this book down once I started.

I have loved Julie since I started her Moore series and I have loved every single book since then. And The Do-Over is just another book to add to that shelf. Julie always write these relatable characters (30's and 40's age group) and they are just so realistic. Add that to her amazing plot and BAM - FABULOUS READING TIME!!!

Wes and Tara have been "involved" in each others lives in one or another but never truly met. Until the meet on a cruise, but it's just bad timing for them. They feel that instant connection but could not act on it. They go about their lives and when they meet again, you sometimes just can't ignore what fate is trying to slam into you.

I love that this story spans over a good chunk of their lives before things are finally falling into place. But it's not an easy journey for them. Julie does a great job of building the tension and passion. Without their past, this book just wouldn't be the same. Wes and Tara had to build their trust, faith and hope in another over the passing years to get the courage to take this further when the opportunity arises.

I can't say enough about this book. The characters will yank at your heart strings. You will find yourself captivated by these characters, including the secondary characters; they all added to this story. The whole story flows beautifully.

Julie is an amazing writer. If you have never read anything by her, I urge you to read this book. She will win you over.

5 stars! ARC review!

Eeeeekkkk!!!!!! I don't think words can express how much I loved this book! I kept turning page after page non-stop and when it was over, it left me craving for more.

"We weren't ready. Our paths weren't ready yet. We both had other destinies to fulfill."

Tara and Wes first meet 15 years prior, but due to some circumstances nothing ever happens and they never get to say goodbye.

"We were always so close, yet one step away."

15 years later they meet again and their time has come, but the journey to a finally happily ever after comes with a lot of obstacles.

"Wes Bergman would always be my big What If. And I wanted a do-over."

I know I am being rather cryptic, but this book is best if experienced and not told. I absolutely loved the realistic aspect of this love story. Both Tara and Wes had tried to move on after their encounter, but they could never forget each other.

"You were there, and as every minute flowed effortlessly into the next hour, you were inextricably more a part of my life, immediately - both past and present, as if there had never been a moment without you."

There is some drama and an unexpected plot twist I was not expecting at all. Don't worry :) it has a HEA, but it doesn't mean you won't cry. I absolutely loved it and I really hope we get some spin-off series for some of these unforgettable characters.

Tara meets her soul mate, Wes, on a Windjammer cruise, but it was the right person, wrong time for both of them. Years later fate brings them back together again but they will have to face many obstacles, the path to true love is never an easy one.

I really enjoyed this story, Tara is the kind of character any woman can relate to. She is strong and resilient, and she never lets life's tragedies ruin her heart. She picks herself up and just keeps going even when she feels completely defeated. The honesty about what it's like out there for an older woman getting back into the dating scene is refreshing. Being an older woman myself it's nice when I can read a story about a woman closer to my age and I don't think there is enough of these stories out there nowadays. This book also takes an honest look at fighting breast cancer, Ms. Richman does not shy away from a tough subject. This is not all sunshine and rainbows, there are some really tough situations in this story, but it brought a realness that I thoroughly enjoyed. All the characters are fully fleshed out and the surroundings are richly detailed, I felt I was really living this story right along with the characters. This is what good writing is all about.

***I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book***

If you believe in fate, soulmates, second and even third chances you will love this book. I was wrapped up in the story, felt like I was right there with them going through every emotion with them. I laughed, I cried, I gasped and asked WHY throughout this whole book.

These two were meant to be together but life gets in the way. A chance encounter finding your soulmate but the timing is just wrong. Meeting them again and STILL the timing is wrong. It just seems like fate is laughing at Tara and Wes, showing them what they could have had but then ripping it away from them.

These two have lived their lives, doing the best that they can and then they see each other again. You feel their connection. I honestly felt like it was a friend telling me about their life. I was consumed by this book.
