The eponymous monsters go on a road trip to Texas. One by one they get sidetracked, and you count down from 10 to 1 as you read the book. The text rhymes, and I had a lot of fun reading it out loud in a silly voice. The illustrations are simple, colorful, and friendly. You can feel some nice contrasting textures on the dust jacket.
The author also wrote "T is for Texas", an ABC primer, "Let's Count Texas", another Texas - themed counting book, as well as similar books for Washington, Oregon, and Canada.
As a native Texan, I HAVE to love this picture book. The monsters in this book are super cute. The counting, rhyming and colorful illustrations are effective in keeping the interest of younger children who might just be learning numbers and letters. However, the content of the book may be geared more towards the parents who know of all the GREAT things about the Lone Star State. This book is both entertaining and informative and is good for family reading.
