"That’s the trouble with love. You never know when you’ll lose it, when you’ll find it, or what you’ll have to do to keep it."
One sister is living the dream... Cameron has found the perfect guy in handsome, successful Kyle. He's supportive, kind, just all around wonderful. Unfortunately, the higher the pedestal, the harder the fall.
While the other is waking up from what could have been a nightmare... Unforgivable actions force Jai to move on from her admittedly stagnant relationship with Elliott...right into the arms of her best friend. Was love standing right in her face all along, or is she still looking in the wrong direction?
Hearts are broken and healed. Scars, both physical and emotional are formed. Happiness is found, then lost, then found again.
Over the course of a year, these sisters face shattering blows and remarkable triumphs as they embark on a journey, figuring out that pesky little thing called love.
I really enjoyed the trials and tribulations of Cameron & Jai….these sisters both had something terrible to occur during their relationships only for it to have a trickle effect, which ultimately resulted in them both meeting someone new. Jai met Derek who introduced Cameron to Will….both relationships had to go through something in order to figure out how they were supposed to fit. I think Cameron & Will’s story was extremely interesting….While Jai & Derek’s relationship was kind of cut and dry….I’m really glad these sisters found their HEA.
My 2nd read was the newly released audiobook narrated by Eboni Flowers & Marcel Davenport
This book was average at best but, in CCJ’s defense, this is some of her early work. One sister’s story was more interesting than the other's. The chemistry between the MFCs and the MMCs just wasn’t there for me. It felt like the author was forcing the chemistry between these characters. Oftentimes, the storyline became stagnant and boring and it was harder and harder to hold my interest. This is a prime example of why I don’t like to read an author’s early work because, their writing styles have changed significantly. So, you really can’t judge them based on how they started. I think this will be the last of CCJ’s early work I read.
Christina Jones has three books out now, and I am already excited about the fourth. She caught my attention with ‘Strictly Professional’ and had it completely locked in with ‘Love and Other Things.’ And now, ‘The Trouble with Love’ solidifies for me that she is an author to watch.
This book, like her others, has a self-assured voice, with characters that were believable and lovable, who you feel like you know, could know or be friends with. In ‘The Trouble with Love’, we get to follow along on the romantic misadventures of Cameron and Jai, two sisters whose love for each other is the only love of which they can be completely certain.
Jai is a spirited but romantically-challenged chef, whose longtime relationship has ended with a blow, and who engages in a sexually-charged cat-and-mouse game with her best friend. Further complicating matters is Jai’s fine but way-too-young neighbor who might be good for a fling but probably not much more.
Then there’s Cameron, the hyper-competent, got-it-all-together sister with the high-powered career and perfect fiancée.
But over the course of just under a year, both Jai and Cameron have their beliefs about themselves and about love challenged by the interesting, flawed and very attractive (though in different ways) men in their lives. I loved the trip Jai and Cameron took, and particularly loved that Christina Jones made the characters multi-dimensional and imperfect. Kyle in particular embodied for me the many forms that love can take, and the ways it can confuse and befuddle us, and cause us to make bad decisions without turning us into bad people.
Jai was for me the quintessential smart-in-life, but foolish-in-love woman that we all know, or have been sometime in our pasts. I thought, based on the title, that I might be reading a romance, but did not expect happily-ever-after because there is nothing about Christina Jones’ writing that implies you’re reading a fantasy. It’s a little like eavesdropping, or having a friend relay a story about mutual friends . There is nothing about her writing that makes you feel like you’re “reading a story” until, dammit, it ends.
I highly recommend reading this and her other work.
I’m meeting the end of CCJs catalog with only this series and the Connecticut Kings left to finish…This is my first and hopefully last DNF of her books. My brain just couldn’t focus keeping up with all four characters and the pov changes. I tried so hard and made it to 68%
The Trouble With Love brings the up and downs that come with love. Jai has been through it with love especially with her ex-boyfriend. She then meets Derek who she has an immediate connection while. Her twin sister on the other hand thought she had all together when it all came crashing down. It will take a lot and the most unlikely person will help her. I loved this book and it is a great read. It was so good read it in one sitting!!!!
This is rare for me, a CCJ book that was average and that's being charitable. One sister's story was..intriguing. The other sister, not so much. The tale just seemed boring..stale even.
I dunno, maybe I just expected too much from arguably the premier author of this genre. Realistically you can't be expected to hit a homerun every time at bat, sooo on to the next one!!
Really disappointed with this one, hate having to say it because I really like Christina's stories. The twins really worked my nerves and the men weren't any better. Also there seem to be a lot missing from this book. It doesn't flow as well as her other novels. Don't get me started on the grammar. It seemed like this was a second draft before it was sent to an editor.
Review to come. Strong 4 star read. I loved that this portrayed a realistic relationship between fraternal twin sisters who have a rollercoaster ride of respective relationships with various ups and downs. I am curious to see where the Trouble series goes, but this was a strong start, and I was invested on through the end of this novel.
I listened to the audiobook of this one and it was a lot of characters to keep up with and a lot of difference scenarios. Every-time I thought it was smooth sailing, then there was another obstacle that came along and blew everything up. I'm still not sure how I feel about it!
Jai and Cameron are two sisters who are different in appearance but go through similar issues with love. Jai is cooking up a storm and loving her profession but work and play sometimes makes love complicated. Cameron has it all and on her way down the aisle, but even the best laid plans go astray. Will these two ever solve the trouble with love?
I enjoyed this read. The characters meshed well together and that moved the plot along. There was some drama thrown in there and at some points I wondered how it would end so the suspense was good up until the ending. It kind of went down and it seemed rushed. I wish there was more dept to it or an epilogue. . There were some grammtical errors in there as well. Overall it was a good read.
I'm certain I have whiplash after all of that, geez 🥴. Yet, that was a good story.
I understand that one can start to self destruct after a hard blow, yet Cameron had 2 major ones back to back; no wonder she fell... HARD! I felt sorry for her after what her fiancé did, yet not sorry for how she handled everything after. She had support and chose not to use it. Plus her family's history; it was very selfish imo.
I liked how genuine Jai was. So glad she left Elliott in the gutter where he belonged. I did feel real sorry for how things kept going for her. Being hurt time after time by men. That Brian was a complete a-hole and I'm glad she stood her ground with just being friends after the way he treated her. I'm also glad Derek's fine self took the liberty to clear his name. That ex of his, Jessica, was loopy crazy. She needs help🤦🏾♀️😬
I liked Will from the moment he went off on Jai. He might've went a bit far with his rant, yet it was just what Jai needed to straighten up and get her life together.
Overall, I loved the message from this book. Life can be down right horrendous, yet it's how you face it head on, that will ensure you come out stronger in the end.
Really good read. I read this series all backwards🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️, yet I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend it.
Cameron and Jai were twin sisters and best friends who had each other's back through thick and thin.
Cameron engaged to Kyle thought she had her HEA, beautiful, successful her life was on the right track until she discovered his cheating ways. This led to a major set back in her life.
Jai, a successful chef and restaurateur dealt with her challenges as well. First overcoming the jealousy, emotional and physical abuse of her live in boyfriend Elliott, to imagining herself in love with her best friend Brian. She eventually found her HEA.
Throughout all their highs and lows, these sisters stuck together. The author did a good job of giving readers into the everyday lives of these women and help us to understand their loyalty to each other and the decisions they made.
This book caught me from the beginning. I loved how it didn't take forever for the story to get interesting. Jai and Cameron's relationship was awesome, and I loved the fact that they were both entrepreneurs. The dual roller-coaster they had me on had me glued to my Kindle at work. I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to more from this author, whose writing I'm rapidly falling in love with. I had bought four of her books on impulse after having never heard of her and haven't regretted it yet!
The trouble with love is that it's never perfect. And as you follow the stories of twin sisters Cam and Jai, you will soon see that no people know this more than they do. Each sister goes through heartbreak and then the struggle of learning to love again without letting their past relationships get in the way. Christina Jones did an excellent job of bringing this characters to life. Definitely, a must read to add to your TBR list!!
I loved these strong entrepreneurial female lead characters! The sisters demonstrate what family is all about. The story told through the male voice is mature, thoughtful and very entertaining. The loves scenes are well written into the story...not just sex...relationships matter. Each book I read by this author provides me with an escape with some folks I'd probably enjoy hanging out with in the real world.
This is another great book by Christina Jones. I came across this author by accident and she has yet to disappoint. The Trouble With Love is a story about twin sisters, Jai and Cameron and all the trouble they are having in their love lives. I can't wait to read another book from this great up and coming author.
I don't know what took me so long to finally read this book but I'm glad I did...If I knew it would be this good, I would've read it sooner. The Trouble With Love is a well written love story. There were some laugh out loud moments...I really enjoyed the banter between the H&H. I would definitely recommend this book. Great job Christina Jones!
I absolutely loved this book it's so refreshing for me to read these types of books. I'm so happy that Jai got her happily ever after. I hope her sister gets that love also. Great storyline this book just flowed so well. Great job
I enjoyed this story a lot. I would have enjoyed it more if it didn't have the strike through words showing, which are distracting. Other than that I love the story.
Cameron & Jai have plenty of drama going on to keep you reading! The laugh out loud moments still have me chuckling. Christina Jones has not disappointed me yet.
There are so many points of view in this book that it's overwhelming. We see into the lives of like 6 characters, and I don't understand why we needed it. I forced myself to finish this one, but I won't read part 2 of the series.
This is my first book by this author. I can say won't be my last. Jai & Cameron struggles with love and relationships was on point. I would to see a story about Rashad. Loved that young buck!
I'm gonna start this review by stating a simple fact - Brian was the worst and most Awful friend, supposedly best friend, that any girl/woman could ever have. He was awful awful awful, and his little forgiveness redemption arc was not nearly enough. With that said, on to the review...
The best thing about this book was the unconditional love between Cameron and Jai. Yes they were sisters, but they were also best friends. They didn't sugar coat they truth with each other. Their relationship was refreshing.
This book was a journey, over a one year period, in the lives of these sisters. It was brilliantly written. Both women started in one place, and ended up in completely different places (in one year). Jai begins the book by coming out of a mentally, emotionally, and eventually, physically abusive relationship. She's a successful restaurant owner and chef. However, years of being with a man who made her feel small has left her with the invisible scars of self doubt and visible insecurities. Cameron is a successful magazine owner, with her own insecurities, who loves her sister and has a great fiancé. Both women undergo a metamorphosis, good and bad, over the year.
This book dealt with the issues of alcoholism, depression, drunk driving, physical ailments, toxic relationships, and infidelity. It also dealt with love, friendship and work ethic. Along with all of that, there was also a good amount of humor.
In 'The trouble with love: a sisters tale,' CCJ gave us some good guys - Derek and Will, the not really good or bad guy - Kyle, the funny f**k boy - Rashad, and the worst best friend ever - Brian. There were a couple of nice love stories, but I won't spoil that, since the writing was so seamless and organic that for a good portion of the book I didn't know who would end up with whom. Even though there were a couple of steamy six scenes, this story was really more about sisterly love than it was about romantic love. This book was unputdownable, and I highly recommend it.
Hmmm, my impressions this book “The Trouble With Love: A Tale of Two Sisters Series) - Book 1 of 3” convoluted.. confrused…conflicted and was a mediocre read. Honestly, in the early 2000’s I didn't nor wouldn't have been interested to read books with this subject or content 🤷🏾♀️. (political fictions/mysteries/action/and minimal romance novels). Nonetheless, it was difficult to follow the menagerie of twins Jai & Cam their friends acquaintances, lovers while juggling emotional conflicts of their personal verses professional lives. Now, in defense of “TTWL” the characters & events all transpired in 2014. …(hopefully 🤔🥴) we’ve all evolved in ten years. Meanwhile, I suspect book 2 will be a drastic improvement considering the narrators Wesleigh Siobhan🤩 & Sharif Stephens ‼️
This is not my first book by this author but it is the first book that I sort of struggled through. The first half of the book didn't grab me like I'm used to CCJs books doing. Although i was committed to finishing, I found myself forcing myself to care about these characters. The two sisters are really only mildly endearing and despite the crappy men they encountered i wasn't truly invested in their stories . I love that they were successful in their careers and enjoyed a close relationship with each other. Towards the middle and end, I was more interested in their decisions and how things would turn out for these women, but it was definitely a slow burn!
