An accessible 'tour' for the non specialist like me, of wonderful paintings in the van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, from 'The Potato Eaters', all brown and smoky to 'Sunflowers', gloriously yellow and fresh. Tells of key moments in van Gogh's life, with moving extracts from his many letters to brother Theo. Debunks some myths and reveals startling details; he produced 80 paintings in 70 days in 1890, just before he died aged 37, 'Daubigny's Garden' on a tea towel. And he planned to be a clergyman; glad he changed his mind!

I'd love to give 5 stars as the book covers nicely the great paintings displayed in the museum and with it takes me back to my visit. However I believe more details should be in it about Van Gogh's life, his struggles, his determination, intellect, love and complex personality which made him and his paintings so amazing...

A wonderful compilation of the lovely works of Van Gogh--a must own for any art lover.

This art book contains works of Van Gogh and fellow artists / compagni such as Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro that art located in the Van Gogh Museum.
Some paintings include Sunflowers, Almond Blossoms, Field with Irises near Arles and more.

All paintings in the Van Gogh's museum in Amsterdam, with overview of the artworks, brief descriptions (but the best informed ones you could get), in chronological order. Careful production with high-quality paper and incredible colors.

One of the most beautiful souvenir books you can get at the van gogh museum
I really enjoy reading this one. It gives a clear overview and some background information.
(I am kinda bad at actually reading my art books even though I love getting new ones)

Bought this book in Amsterdam at the Van Gogh museum; glad I did! The book includes a picture and description of seemingly every painting on the museum's walls. This will be an excellent "coffee table book".

Excellent explanations of whats depicted in each art work. Can get quite repetitive after a while, however that’s expected due to the similarities within the themes.

Interesting read. Most definitely complements the museum visit quite well.

Visiting the Van Gogh Museum was one of my highlights from my 9 and a half month trip to Europe. It was not only curated exceptionally well, but I love how they told his story through his artwork. I ended up spending half a day going through the Museum and loved it so much that I wanted to take a piece of it home with me. And so, I bought this book.

I had very heavy hand luggage on my way home due to the many books I had collected along the way. This book was sent home in a box filled to the brim with books which I ended up sending home at about the halfway mark.

I just re-discovered this book and today, I read it from cover to cover and delved back into the masterpieces in the Van Gogh Museum! I must say that it was almost as good as being back at the museum itself. I am very glad I bought this book and can now re-live the experience of staring at the paintings in awe (even though it is only in photo form now).

I picked this up at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. It covers all of the major works on display there. The focus of this book is biographical, so the descriptions of the paintings focus on what was going on in Van Gogh's life at the time rather than an analysis of the images in the paintings. That made it an easy read as you can follow Van Gogh's life through his paintings. If you're ever in Amsterdam, be sure to pick up a copy.

It has some of the best work of Van Gogh except Starry Starry Night, which is okay. Gives the idea of how Mr. Van Gogh did his work. What was Mr. Van Gogh's inspiration to what Mr. Van Gogh painted. Very enjoyable with the pieces in the book to be viewed.

Purchased this book from the Van Gogh Museum when visiting Amsterdam back in 2021 and read it start to finish as soon as I got home.
The quality of the pages and the book in its entirety is fantastic and the information is so well written and super interesting!

Fragments of his art with life, the artists who shaped him. Love every ounce of his work and the way his mind worked.
