Integrative Preaching: A Comprehensive Model for Transformational Proclamation

Rate this book
Integrative Preaching offers a compelling conceptual model of biblical preaching that helps preachers better understand what they are doing when they step into the pulpit. Kenton Anderson, an experienced preacher and professor, explicates the integrative preaching model he has been honing for a lifetime. His fresh, holistic approach aims at whole-person transformation and is well suited for contemporary listeners. The book includes theoretical underpinnings and practical guidance to both instruct students and motivate working preachers. Sample sermons show how the model unfolds in actual sermons.

While I applaud Anderson's attempt at a more holistic approach to preaching that labors to blend rhetorical design, spiritual direction and learning theory together, his final product, an "integrative" model of preaching unnecessarily complicated and complex. The design of the model seems circular but not intentionally so. Additionally, Anderson only offers one chapter on how to actually construct a sermon, providing only two samples.

This is a wonderful preaching textbook, helpful to beginners and seasoned preachers who have spent decades in the pulpit.
