What do you do when your friends' birthday surprise turns awkward?
It's Chloe's birthday. She's successful and single, and content with her life the way it is. When her friends give her a relaxing spa weekend in a luxury hotel, she thinks nothing of going alone--after working hard for a long time, she has earned it. Chloe doesn't know that the weekend includes some time with Lacey, or that what she has to offer to her, would be so hard to resist.
Lacey knows how to keep her emotional distance from a client. Reluctant Chloe turns out to be a challenge in many ways, and soon both of them face difficult decisions. Can they really go back to the way things were before--do they want to? Or can life go into a different, unexpected direction?
Raven J. Spencer, lesbian, married, loves everything sensual and indulgent which led her to write erotic romance and fantasies. When she's not writing, you can often find her on Pinterest in the pursuit of inspiration.
This is a great book, and very well-written. I couldn´t put it down. You can see the point of view from both characters and how they deal with their emotions and feelings. Well done!
I love the vulnerability that Ms. Spencer creates with her characters. I wanted to hug both of these characters and tell them everything will be alright. Chloe and Lacey (Liv) are both troubled but still very sweet and loving at the same time. The story itself is delightful. I wish, however, that Ms. Spencer would pay more attention to cleaning up the typos before releasing her books. I almost marked it down one star for that but I just enjoyed the story too much.
3 Stars. Overall well written. A workaholic executive (Chloe) is given a surprise birthday present by her friends - a weekend with a high end escort (Lacey). I thought it worked well to have the two mains POVs in alternating chapters. I really liked Lacey and to learn and understand why and how she became an escort and what her work schedule is like working for an agency with exclusive clientele. I can only give it 3 stars because I didn’t like Chloe all that much. She really didn’t listen to Lacey - wanting to “save” Lacey when at the time she didn’t want or need saving.
You may think you are happy with your life until you meet that one special person. Falling for a client is the last thing Lacey needs but Chloe is special. Their relationship is complex and you see some of the turmoil involved in Lacey's job. Chole can see them having a future together.
The Gift (Kindle Edition) by Raven J. Spencer: The book involves Lacey/Olivia Chloe and a host of other players, friends, family, and adversaries. It plays with judgment, acceptance, and growth. The Gift is a twisty-turny road that leads us to adventure and change. It does get a bit erotic on the way. Erotic, Hawt, sensual and exciting are not bad things in this context. I get a bit jumpy early on when Lacey starts to break rules in what could be a dangerous profession. Chloe seems a bit controlling and possessive. Growth begins. I like both and most of the sidekicks. There are moments when I dislike both the MCs and don't even want to finish. Into the doldrums, I read and it all changes and life wins. In the in they won my heart. This is a 5-star read for me.
Things don't go as expected. Up to a certain point her lifestyle was easy for Lacey. She is very popular and always has a busy schedule. But then Chloe comes in her life. Circumstances change and Lacey need to make tough choices. Choices that can affect her entire life and this is undoubtedly a challenge for her. I like how the author describes the relationships with the clients, what they like and dislike and how she must anticipate. I love the excellent acting skills of Lacey. They are hot and sexy. The story is written from both women point of view and that gives an extra dimension to the story. This is an unique and fascinating story. Captivating from the start.
3.5 * It's a good solid read, and whilst there are things I loved about the story, there were some things that were not so hot.
I really liked "Lacey" and her part of the story read the best. I also liked Chloe, the birthday girl, and recipient of The Gift, but although she seemed decent enough, there were times when I just wanted to slap her. She knows best, apparently, and she can save Lacey because she is rich enough to do so. This smacks of buying a person. Arrogance indeed. It's minor really. Perhaps it is one of my triggers, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Although I don't have an issue with 1st person POV, when they alternate between characters then it is very very easy to lose track of who is who. There are, in some cases, very few dialogue tags and I had to keep looking back to see who was talking. This just knocks me out of the flow of the story.
That said, I would definitely read another Spencer book.
I read the other reviews on this book and decided to give it a chance. I'm not one drawn to stories about call girls with heart of gold. This is about an escort and what I would call a feminist out to change the lot of women for the better. Lacey the escort is a woman who I think is not a victim but controls her own life. Her profession is one she chooses to be in for business reasons. No one forced her into it. She's not trapped in the type of work. Chloe is shocked that her friends gift to her is to unwind from too much overwork with a woman who represents just about everything she fights against. What starts out with Chloe trying to save Lacey who doesn't need saving turns into a sweet romance. Other 5 star reviewers have written better reviews and I can't add anything more. I want to add if you want hot loving with opposites attract and discovering more about each other than first impressions then read this one.
This story, just like its title was quite the gift.
An emotional story sees Chloe, the recipient of a gift from her friends that she wasn’t expecting getting a lot more for her birthday than she thought she would. When she thinks she is going to have a nice relaxing stay at a spa and hotel, Lacey turns up and suddenly an intense relationship starts between them.
With many unexpected twists, this story gifts the reader with a multitude of surprises from both Chloe, and Lacey, and their developing relationship that is not without drama!!!!
Following both characters emotional journey gave me a great connection with them as the reader, and allowed me to get to know them quite intimately.
An absolute thrill to read. Hot, sexy, and emotional romantic story that was just perfect with every unfolding chapter.
First impression was a Pretty Woman version story with wlw instead. Nothing like that at all. Chole forty birthday gift from one of her friends is an escort. When the meet there us chemistry. Chole wants to have Olivia quit but she doesn't want too. Can they make a relationship work or will the job interfere? A nice short story hope a there is a follow up
DNF ~35%. I don't like the writing style, nor the characters, they're flat. Pages upon pages are spent on ramblings about how being a workaholic and single is so great until it isn't but then the ramblings continue about how having sex with an escort is bad (then she has sex with the escort) after which ramblings continue about how she can't forget the escort and how she indirectly paid for sex which is incredibly bad because she's a feminist.
Not really sure why they can't forget each other either. They literally exchanged a couple sentences and had sex. Uninspired sex but sex nonetheless. Nothing else happened, they didn't connect emotionally at all. They have 0 chemistry.
Very different plot from the rest, but it's worth the read. I would recommend this to those who enjoy erotic scenes. There's a lot and they are beautifully written. Definitely recommend.
I liked it :) 3.5 A few minor editing mistakes (always takes me out of it so bad!! unfortunately) and one sorta strange plothole that doesn't matter (spoilers-->) literally at all but bothered me!!!!! Vague spoiler: the conversation in chapter 14 is insaneee it was so tense and felt real? Had me on the edge of my seat. Liked it, was short and sweet and effective.
This is a difficult book for me to review. I have read books by Spencer in the past, and I have loved them. When the chance came up to review this book, I couldn’t wait to get started.
However, this book took me awhile to get into it. I picked it up and put it down a few times before I was finally able to get fully into the story. Once I was able to get into the story – I did like how it progressed.
The relationship between Chloe and Lacey (Liv) was very interesting to follow along and watch as things progressed between the two of them.
The story itself was one that I personally just couldn’t get into. I would say that if you have read Spencer’s books in the past, then you should try this one out!

Chloe is a workaholic, knowing this her friends decide to do something nice for her on her birthday. Nobody saw the outcome of her gift.
Lacey is part if Chloe's birthday celebration, never in her wild imagination did she imagine Chloe will leave an imprint in her life.
The Gift is a story with love, steamy lovemaking between two passionate ladies. Raven Spencer once again manage to deliver another well written book, and once again you will love it.
If you love a good F/F romance then Raven Spencer the author to seek.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The coupling of Olivia and Chloe was a great pairing and hopefully will appear in the future. This story connects us to a need that is not always acceptable by all. Sometimes it takes someone to care enough to want to make changes. Loved the concept and how the story unravels. It was exciting to see that they belonged together and understood their love for each other. The downfall of the agency helped in recognizing what Olivia needed to do. This was also a good introduction to Emily..... Another great job...
This is a very good F/F romance story. It has excellent and well developed characters who will keep you entertained and guessing how they will get to the ending you are sure is coming. This was the first of Raven's books that I have read but it won't be the last.
I really liked The Gift. Chloe gets a surprise gift for her birthday that she never expected. How that works out for her in the end is quite incredible. Check out this book it was a great read.
DNF at 37%. I didn’t connect with the MC’s at all. Even when we were suppose to be in both there heads. And the sex wan’t hot enough either. So I stopped reading. To much books to be read that will be more interesting.
I was looking for a one night to forever story for I Love Saphhic Lit’s 2022 reading challenge. I was not expecting to root for Lacey as much as I did. Her journey in the story is what surprised me the most. Check out this lovely story.
