What happened to the Greek Gods? Why does the man at the cross roads smile like that? Who is stealing the color before it can reach your eyes? Why don't you read this collection of short stories and find out?
Catelyn Winona (she/they) was born in 1994 alongside her fellow triplet siblings and her (later) twin step-siblings. She grew up in a home with four siblings her age which has led to a lifelong indulgence of chaos.
She has always been attracted to storytelling, no matter the form. She was blessed to grow up with musicians, artists, and entertainers who all understood the value of a good story.
Catelyn writes primarily fantasy. Oftentimes her stories seek to address current media.
"Is the 'Chosen One' ready to fight for the world that foresaw their arrival? Or will they bring a different agenda to the table entirely?
What do you do when the transfer student is a vampire and no one notices but you? Fall in love? Or reach for the stake?
Why would you make a deal with the devil? Better, why would the devil make a deal with you?"
It's with this mindset that Catelyn has self-published two books - her debut collection of short stories " A Caffeinated Collection of Curious Accounts" and her 2nd person style book "I Reap You Not."
Catelyn Winona currently lives in Northern California with her cat and several cursed dolls she found at a thrift store she never found again.
This in one brilliant book. I read this thing yesterday, completely ignoring my resolution “one story / day” because I just couldn’t stop. Of course, I knew some of the stories from @caffeinewitchcraft ‘s tumblr but the experience was a new and happy one nonethless, since the writing prompts aren’t in the book and selection of the stories collected here is just as mesmerizing as the stories themselves.
Even if you follow her and have wormed your way through her archives, buy this book! It’s easily my no. 1 read this year so far.
This collection of short stories is a quick read if you're looking for something a bit different. Everything from the gods (Hades & Persephone + others), to a woman getting retribution on her philandering husband in a most unusual way. I purchased this as I hoped it had the story that introduced me to this author: "The 100 Point Child"; there is a bit of a teaser for that story in the book but I'll have to buy more of her writings to get that story. This isn't a collection of romance books (as is my usual genre), but well-written, perfectly crafted, and drawn stories.
The circus story was a bit dark, but all the stories have dark parts. Its just that the circus story didn't have much light to balance it. All of the stories are told with great descriptive details that suck you in and make you want to read more. Found this author though her story prompt response about a 100 points child, and I look forward to reading what she writes next.
Absolutely lovely. I’ve been following Catelyn Winona on tumblr for a while and have been reading her stuff for even longer, so reading this collection felt like sinking into something wonderfully familiar. Some of the stories were ones I’d read before or reworked versions which I did definitely enjoy. Favorite had to be Madame Science - that’s a short story that was basically crafted for me in a lab.
I love this author style, and I admit that I bought the book, forgot about it, re-discovered her tumblr, and then read this book. And it's g o r g e o u s! The style is flexible and has its on voice for all the genres it dabbles into - I'd read 1000 more stories like this.
Also, I openly cried in a coffee shop while reading Persephone's story.
Very enjoyable short stories, I really loved all of them. I liked how there was a variety of protagonists, both in ages and in temperaments and I liked how, while some of the stories ended happily, some of them didn't and you were never sure quite what you were going to get. There were a few stories that I wouldn't mind reading a full length novel/novella about them as well.
I have been reading Catelyn's writings on Tumblr for quite a while and was thrilled to find out that there was a short story collection that had been released. My only complaint about this book is the same one I have for what I've already read--each story is a perfect glance into a world I am desperate to know more about. It's a strange feeling that I'm left with; the stories themselves are complete but the worlds she's created them in are so compelling I find myself wanting more. Cannot wait to see more released!
I’ve been following the author’s tumblr page for quite some time now, and I loved reading all the short stories she posted so when I heard about this book I had to see it. It was a little hit-or-miss from one story to the next; my favorites were probably Spectrum and Madame Science, but the others were pretty interesting too. Can’t wait to see what she publishes next!
A wonderful debut by a wonderful author. While there are a few abrupt endings to a couple stories and some more perplexing tales (The Debt Collector), the author's stories are enchanting, empowering, and ultimately enjoyable.
Catelyn has such an incredible way with words. Every minute I spent reading this anthology was a true pleasure. I suspect I'll foresee myself reading it again and again and finding new bits and pieces I missed before.
All the feels. I need more of this type of author that sucks you into the story and literally transplants you into the shoes of the characters. You too will fall in love when you read this.
