The Mi'kmaq culture is brimming with tales that have been told for generations. Red Earth recounts 26 of those legends in the vivid language of storytellers.
Things I liked: there were some "new to me" tales, there was quite a mix of tales and information, credit was given to sources, and references to other books and authors make it easy for someone to explore further. Things I didn't like: it is a very disjointed book, with a lot of tales being so brief that they seem more like snippets than tales, and reading indigenous folkmore by indigenous authors is so much richer in my experience.
I like the beginning of it, as it goes into cultural context of the ancient times pre colonialism to set the tone of the stories they're about to tell.
