It was Christmas Eve 1944, and the war was raging in the Pacific and in Europe. On a dairy farm, in upstate New York, a family was gathering to trim the Christmas tree as many families do. Maureen Miller sat on the sofa trying to smile and be festive, but it was hard, because she had lost her husband, Jim, three months ago. This would be the first Christmas without him. The youngest was ten-year-old, Andy, and he was so excited that he could not contain himself. Andy had a secret a big secret. All he had to do was catch the first snowflake of the season, in the story, The First Snowflake.
I am what you call a late bloomer, an old farmer turned author. If I had to describe myself, it would be, "A Christian Farmer Storyteller," if I could leave a legacy that would be good enough for me. I was sixty-three when I started to write my first novel, “Archomai, The Prince, The Scepter, And The Shield.” I have always wanted to write, and now I am seeing that dream come true. My third book was released this past fall 2015; it is a Christmas story, “The First Snowflake.” My first book published was a collection of poetry, the title, “The Old Corner Post.” It is a thirty-year collection of poems and ballads. My Christmas story for 2016 will be released December 6th; it is called, The Christmas Gate.
I have spent most of my life on the farm, and I do love working the land. There is a spirit of freedom on the farm that surpasses anything I have ever experienced. I have had many jobs, from truck driving to managing a plastic plant and most everything in between, but I always seem to drift back to the farm. I am truly blessed.
With my wife, our four children and six grandchildren, we live the country life. Our family is within twenty miles of each other, so we get together often. Family has always been important to me and gathering together especially on holidays is a high point of my life.
I loved this family. A little boy makes a wish on the first snowflake because of a story his mother tells him. I love the way the author was able to make this story seem so real with only a few words. It was a short read but excellent.
I love those stories that take place on rural farms, on Christmas, and during the 1940's. This story gave me such a warm feeling, almost as if though I was right there!
A very sweet WWII story, about ten-year-old Andy whose older brother Jim is missing, presumed dead. When Andy's mother tells him about the magic of the first snowflake of the season, Andy makes it his mission to catch that snowflake and wish upon it for Jim's safe return.
I won this book through Goodreads, by author T.A. Cline. I am honored to recive this book. This is a great Christmas story. It brought tears to my eyes knowing how the youngest brother has so much faith. I recommend this book and I look forward to reading another book by T.A. Cline.
I loved this short little story. It's great to read during this hectic time of year. I won it on Goodreads,& couldn't wait for it to come. Great for young & old alike!
A lovely Christmas Novella .. Ideal to read with a child as it quite perfectly illustrates how through the power of faith in yourself, you can achieve wondrous things, and sometimes dreams can come true ..
