Songs and music are an integral part of Indian cinema and have helped film-makers complement and enhance their narratives in numerous ways for decades. A large part of the responsibility of weaving the song into the fabric of the story lies with the songwriter.
Dhoop ke Sikke: Ek Kavyamay Yatra offers a rare glimpse into the mind of one of the nation’s best loved poet-lyricists. Whether it is the tender ‘Ma’ from Taare Zameen Par, the inspirational ‘Khoon Chala’ from Rang De Basanti or the fun-filled ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ from Delhi 6, Prasoon Joshi’s songs have never failed to touch a chord with audiences. A collection of some of his best songs in Hindi, with a thought-provoking perspective on what goes into the making of a song by the master lyricist, this book is a must-have for anyone who has ever loved poetry and songs.
Kya Bataoon Maa Kahan Hoon Main Yahan Udney Ko Mere Khula Aasmaan Hai Tere Kisson Jaisa Bhola Salona Jahan Hain Yahan Sapno Vala Meri Patang Ho Befikar Udd Rahi Hai Maa Dor Koi Loote Nahin Beech Se Kaate Na
Aaja Saanjh Hui Mujhe Teri Fikar Dhundhla Gayi Dekh Meri Nazar Aa Ja Na
---------------------------------------------------- Couldn't sleep last night. after having read this with the sounds of Rehman just right there word after word.
Tu magar hai bekhabar hai bekhabar...
Earlier in the day, when I read this too.
Then there is Lukka Chupi ( Rang De Basanti) , Maa ( Taren Zameen Par) among other gems.
I bought this book to read poems written by Mr. Prasoon but unfortunately this book consists of Bollywood songs written by him which we all have already listened to through the media. Very few poems are there in the book.
No doubt he is a great writer but this book was not what I was expecting it to be. No hard feelings.
Very ordinary book. Just self appraisal and very less detail of creative process or explanation of feelings and thoughts around a song. Lesson learned : one should not buy a book consisting songs and its so called journey or any book by a person who is known as lyricist rather than poet.
Over the years many songwriters have compiled their film songs into books like Kaifi Azmi, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar and among the contemporary writers it is Prasoon Joshi, who values the importance of documentation. This book published by Rupa & Publications has Prasoon Joshi’s 21 films and 55 songs which includes Rang De Basanti, Delhi 6, Taare Zameen Par and more. All the songs are divided into three sections – the original Hindi script, followed by the roman script which elaborates on the Hindi script, then the English translation and then there is back up which tells you about how the director briefed him on the situation of the song and how he arrived at the words. In the preface and in the last word of the book, Prasoon tells you about his memories of his native place and what has been the influences on his life, career and everything. So, the author weaves magic with words and you get a glimpse of his songs and films also his thoughts and his life. So go for it, it is worth it. And yes, the favourite song of mine of Prasoon Joshi, I think it’s everyone’s favourite, is Taare Zameen Par’s ‘Tujhe Sab Hai Pata Meri Maa’.
The stories and events behind the songs of Prasoon Joshi is shared pretty well for the readers. Somewhere I felt that apart from events the mental map while writing should have been written in a better clear way. Overall, a good read to know the real sense behind the songs.
This collection of the most beautiful of his lyrics by Prasoon Joshi is such a gem of a book. It includes some of his best works like Rang De Basanti, Delhi 6, Phir Milenge, Hum Tum, Taare Zameen Par, Fanna and albums like Man Ke Manjire and Ab Ke Saavan.
The design and feel of this book is simply marvelous, and each song is provided with devanagari script, English transliteration and a really insightful section named writer's comment.
You will simply love this book and it will surely be one of your most favorites books of poetry. Just go for it!!
Fabulous book! It is a compilation of most of his compositions, their meaning and how and when did that thought occur to him. It's a beautiful piece of art and lyrics worthy of appreciation! :)
