Christmas Key #3

The Edge of Paradise

Rate this book
Mayor Holly Baxter has her hands full: the island is hosting a group of rowdy, swashbuckling weekend pirates; her ex-boyfriend's new love interest has decided to stick around; mysterious holes keep popping up all over the island; and a new family is ready to make Christmas Key home--a family that includes rambunctious six-year-old twin boys.

After leaving the island on Christmas Eve, River O'Leary has started texting and calling Holly again, stirring up feelings in her that she's been too busy to ponder. But will having River back in her life finally free Holly from the ties that bind her to her ex? Can Holly solve the mystery of the holes before the other islanders start lobbing accusations at their guests? And will having little ones on Christmas Key be a fun distraction, or more mischief than the locals are prepared to handle?

Book three of this romantic comedy series takes you all the way to the edge of paradise!

There's a lot going on in Christmas Key: there's would-be weekend pirates roaming around, Bonnie's romance with one of them, a younger family interested in moving to the island, and last but not least the tension between Jake and Holly. Book three in this installment brings back all the characters you've come to know and love, and introduces a new family to the island and the chaos that ensues from their rambunctious twins. Holly is determined to make Christmas Key a destination paradise, but can she keep her personal life from getting in the way? Jake is living with Bridget, a contestant from a reality show in which they both appeared, and Holly has pretty mixed feelings about this situation-but does she want what's best for Jake, or is she just jealous? River, the handsome ex-baseball player from Oregon, is still on her mind (and in her heart). She's also dealing with mysterious holes that keep appearing on the island, and finding out how much she relied on Bonnie, who followed her heart to Clearwater. You will want to keep reading to find out how Holly manages all these new issues, and you will laugh along the way as you keep up with the lovable and eccentric mix of characters that inhabit Christmas Key. I highly recommend this book!

Can't wait to read the next one

Another mystery solved in this wonderful story of life, love, and human nature. Each book builds upon the previous one and reveals a story about life, relationships, and how we deal with them. The characters come to life and make you wish you could live amongst these caring, whimsical characters.

Holly Baxter is still the mayor trying to bring tourism and economic growth to the tiny island off the coast of Florida. The story opens with the island hosting a bunch of pirate wanna-be's--think Civil War reinactment meets Bluebeard--and Holly's wingman Bonnie running off to Clearwater with one of them. A new family comes, bringing the number of children on the island up to 2 and trouble ensues. But the real tension is between Holly and Jake, the island's sole law enforcement officer who was a contestant in a Survivor style reality show the island hosted in book #2. Jake fell for another contestant who is now living on the island with him. Holly and Jake were once an item, and there are alot of unresolved issues between them. The characters are believable, the descriptions paint perfect pictures of this out-of-the-way tropical home, and the emotional heft gives the series real heart. By now, I'm totally invested in Holly's quest to put Christmas key on the map but even more in the relationships ripening in the hot sun. Highly recommended.

Many changes are afoot on the island of Christmas Key and Mayor Holly has her hands full juggling them. Big topics are discussed, including aging, growth (for people and towns), diversity and inclusion, and more. The ending sets up the next book nicely too. I'll be along for the ride.

Now, having finished the 3rd book in the series, I am fought up. I am anxious to start the 4th book. What a surreal way to live life on a tiny private island. The addition fo 6 year old twins created some unique challenges the islanders took on with abandon. I love books about close knit friendships and support with in that network. I also love the water. Content is the perfect choice for me.

I love this series. I think the stories get better with each new book. The characters grow in depth and the stories are anything but redundant and boring!! I purposely saved this one for my vacation. It is the perfect vacation story. I can't wait for the next one.
