Make Some Noise 4!: A Baton Rouge Youth Poetry Anthology

Rate this book
In the fourth collection of Make Some Noise! A Youth Poetry Anthology series, brave young voices have come together, once again, in a diverse variety of poetry, prose, and short stories. In this special edition, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, youth enhance their skills and emphasize their concerns, which those of us who have become more advanced in age may have not been able to see without the guiding light of this text.

Make Some Noise IV! takes a special focus on the youth of Baton Rouge, Louisiana who – in the fall of 2016 – had experienced a particularly tough year filled with police shootings and an historic flood – in addition to their day-to-day struggles and concerns. This anthology expertly captures and organizes teen feelings about race, violence, flooding, loss, and love. The students that have contributed their writing have almost magically transferred emotion to these pages – as if it flowed like ink from their hearts through their pens and onto the paper.

In editing Make Some Noise IV! A Baton Rouge Youth Poetry Anthology, Terry A. O’Neal has provided us not only a window into these youthful souls, but also a snapshot of a Louisiana city in the midst of crisis. Within these pages you’ll read about the strife created by both humans and nature – and how the best comes out in many people to conquer and rise above the negative. Make Some Noise IV! exposes the dark and ugly aspects of human society – the daily fears that some among us are forced to face (that others will never know) as well as the violent natural and human tragedies that spring up as if out of nowhere and change our lives forever. But it is also a testament to the best in human nature, to the courage and strength of individuals and communities. And it showcases a number of very talented young authors – many of whom may continue to bless us with their poetry and prose in the future.
