When the end began, no one even noticed. It sort of snuck up on us, like the thief in the night we'd read about. My name is Nikki. Just a country gal with no real mad skills. But after the global economic collapse, my husband Reg and I found ourselves leading a ragtag group of survivors, those who managed to escape the cities…and the Neos. The Neo Geo Task Force is the new government. The new world order. They were supposed to be the law of the land, the peacekeepers. They were anything but.Not long after banks around the world closed their doors the price of everything from food to electricity shot up so high that most couldn't afford to even eat. Vehicles were abandoned for lack of fuel to run them. People took to stealing to eat, robbing to survive, killing to exist. No one was safe, nothing was sacred, when it came to survival. Some of us had a clue about what was to come. We were Christians, followers of The Way. Scripture had warned us of the end times and the signs were there in front of us…mass killings, governmental collapse, famine, the world in chaos. We knew what was coming; things were only going to get worse. A lot worse. The problem was we really weren't prepared to fight the evil that was coming our way.It was coming; we just didn't know when.
I have read VJ Dunn before. I have always appreciated her ability to create and describe her characters in a way that makes you love them or hate them. She has a gift of making them seem so real, so everyday, so like you and they become real people that you feel as though you really know.
I truly enjoyed this first book in the Beginning of the End series. I don't love the jagged cliff ending that left me tearing my fingernails out but since the other three books are already out, I can deal with it. Plus, that's a sign of a great book when you hit the last page without realizing you're almost done and you NEED to know what happens next.
I will definitely be continuing the series. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is 16ish. It is totally clean for language, intimacy and contains no on scene intimate violence but the subject matter and references to local and world events make me feel like 16 is appropriate.
I was intrigued by this book because while it is like the Left Behind books, this one differs because no one is suddenly captured away before the end times happen. This book and I'm guessing series takes the stance that we are in the end times now and the rapture will happen on Judgment Day.
It then falls into all that was in Left Behind. Everyone who comes to the ranch is saved. Every man can be a pastor, giving sermons, performing adult baptisms and of course weddings between the teenagers who were at least 18. It's about what I expected from an End Times fictional story. I will not be reading the rest of the series.
Wonderful! I felt every emotion but laughed so much with the characters. It's been a long time since I've fallen in love with a series! Thanks to the author for creating such beautiful visuals of a Father God who is truly loving. My thought was i bet Father will be just like that and then some! Superb job!
First, if you are offended by Christian writing, you will NOT like this story. However, if you are Christian, this is a great story with likeable characters. It sucks you right in. Very few typos to distract from the story.
Dunn gives information weaved through the storyline, on survival tips. Easy read with enduring characters, and a constant flow of reality of life in these times. Recommended read for alert Christians.
This book definitely got me thinking about what may be ahead of us as Christians. I love how much the characters depend on the Lord. It is inspiring me to get closer to God
I couldn't finish this. It started out pretty good, but I had to give up not long after the border patrol guy arrived in the FEMA truck. It started reading more like an outline for a book, too many undeveloped characters, bare bones of an event.... I just lost Interest.
I just couldn’t like this series. It could have been an ok series but I feel it disrespected to my LORD & SAVIOR.
It is my first VJ Dunn books & probably my last. I couldn’t accept calling GOD “dad”. I found it highly disrespectful, a popular terminology today doesn’t make it right. GOD gave us His name that we are to call Him to Moses in Exodus, Yahweh (YHWH), "I am" or "He is". Jesus even says to address GOD as “Our Father” in the LORD’s Prayer, not “dad”. The Jews consider the Lord’s name a highly sacred name and we should as well. They even capitalize LORD when addressing our Creator. The Creator & Father of all life, our King & Savior should be addressed with reverence & respect not such informality as “dad”. The LORD is not our “dad”, our dad is one of our earthly human parents. We wouldn’t address the President of the United States, an earthly king or even the apostle Paul as “dude” or “dad” if we met them, so we would show even more respect when addressing our Heavenly Father, not an informal name such as “dad”. I can assure you on judgment day when we stand before our LORD, we will not call our LORD dad, we will be in such admiration & awe that we won’t even be able to speak at all when we stand before the Holy of Holies, that is how reverent our Heavenly Father is, not an informal name such as dad. King David, Moses, Abraham & Yeshua Himself never went before our LORD & called Him “dad”. Revelation 6:9-11, the saints under the throne of God call him "LORD" and "Sovereign LORD," often addressing Him with phrases like "How long, O LORD, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?" - essentially emphasizing HIS holiness, justice, and power to avenge their suffering. They do not address GOD so informally as “dad” Calling God 'Daddy' should be considered irreverent. The term brings the Creator and Father of all life down to the level of humanity. We are to be careful when addressing our Heavenly Father. And should address Him with all the reverence due Him.
I also found this series was written more towards a high school level, which in my opinion is teaching our youth to address our Creator, our King, our LORD & Savior irreverently.
This is the second time that I have read this book in this series. I have been going through some things recently and this book helped to remind me about what’s important.
I liked the book a lot until Jesus becomes a stand up comic. I still like it but feel this was unnecessary. I love all the scripture and preaching, and how so many came to Christ.
