Necro-soldiers, space nazis, and mad scientists, Oh my!

With volume 1 we saw Alita/Yoko and her companion Erica dealing with some traumatic events in their youth on Mars, now 3 years after the events of Last Order the two meet again on Mars as Alita visits the memorial to those lost in the events of volume 1. At first civil the conversation turns into a fight as Erica wants to see how Alita has improved showing us some of the cool fight moments we have come to expect in this series thus far. After being interrupted though Alita i arrested for the attempted assassination of Queen Limeira. Certainly we get a flashback to what happened but who is this Alita imposter sporting the same look she had in Last Order or could it be possible she is being controlled somehow and being left with no memory of her actions? Only time will tell as mysterious opponents begin to come out of the woodwork and Alita follows a new destiny withe the help of a priesterin named Mui that asks her to come with her. Of course this is only a little of what this volume offers so be sure to read this volume to catch up on this complex but enjoyable story. :)

Oh and stay for the end of the volume too to see a one shot manga called World of Mist which has some crazy illustrations as two kids find themselves in a world that defies the laws of physics.

My favorite part of the book would probably have to be the brief conflict between Tzykrow and Alita leading to a truce. :)

From the previous volume, I assumed Mars Chronicle was all prequel. But this second volume takes place after The Last Order. Alita returms to Mars to encounter Erica, who has the Panzer Kunst markings on her face and is spoiling for a fight. There's some political machinations between the characters from volume 1 and returning characters from The Last Order. Honestly, I could have used a "previously ..." page, to remind me who some of them were.

Also included is a short story illustrated by Kishiro, set in an interdimensional space reality seems to be collapsing into.

The best futurist manga ever

It's not how good the art is (It's great) or the excellence of the concepts and storytelling (also great) but the utter conviction of the entire project that makes this so astonishing. There are no seams showing. One of the best manage of all time.

The first volume focused on Alita as a kid and her actual, real origin. Here, we come back to the present time to a couple of years after the Zott. And we get a nice reunion between Alita and Erika, from the first volume.

Yukito Kishiro has done a smart thing with this new series with focusing the story back on Alita. The Zott tournament was, let's be honest: cool but vapid. This one definitely is leaning more towards world and character building, which is part of why the first series was so good. The mystery of Alita is a big part of why the book works, and it's good to see Kishiro engaging in that aspect of the story more heavily in this volume.

That's not to say there isn't some cool fights in this one, cause there are. And with cool fights, you have to have some good artwork, and Kishiro doesn't disappoint on that front. It seems that he gets better and better as time goes on, and this book is a testament to that, as it looks great.

Im eager to see where the story goes from here, as the focused driven plot is something that has definitely hooked me again.

The second volume of the Mars Chronicle, and also the finale 2nd sequel to Battle Angel Alita series has taken an interesting turn. The events now took place to the current as the origin of Alita and how her past connects with the now reveals a conspiracy unlike any other. I enjoy the complexity of the story and more over, the art itself. Included in this volume is a bonus short-story special award-winning science fiction manga drawn by Yukito Kishiro and written by Hirotaka Tobi - Mukai (World of Mist. Its quite a fun read for this short story, not really unique but works well for a short story about a world that is stuck in-between of gray matter and the real world.

I can't wait to read the next volume of Mars Chronicle and hopefully, it really ends well.

After traveling back to Alita's earliest days in Vol. 1, Vol. 2 jumps forward to 3 years after the end of Last Order, Alita is on Mars and immediately comes into confrontation with a ghost from her past. Although this volume is a little disorienting with a time skip you get the sense of what's currently happening in the world and no doubt at some point the manga will skip back to cover the lost time. The last 1/4 of this book is actually a completely separate story that was published around the same time and is written by another author, but still drawn by Yukito Kishiro. It's tonally a very different story than Battle Angel and feels like it was added to both pad out this volume and for completions sake, but fortunately the story itself is very good.

I really liked that I got to see Alita in present time in this volume. Erica is a interesting character also. The series is really bugging me with the amount of german words and expressions that are not translated.

It's to bad that Kishiro doesn't use both english and german to express the tecniques, places, ranks and people. It gets really confusing for me at times.

The art is excellent, vast and works great with describing the world. The action-scenes are mind boggling!

This is the second volume in the Alita: Mars Chronicles series. This volume takes place over 200 years after volume 1 and 3 years after the Last Order series. Alita meets up and does battle with an old friend on Mars, and then gets caught up in a conspiracy plot.

I haven’t read the Last Order series, so I was a bit lost here. There are several new characters that I haven’t seen before, and I felt like it was missing an essential quality that defined the original series.

Mars Chronicle Vol. 2

Really enjoying this. Story is a bit fragmented, but some of that is due to how long it’s been since I read Last Order. Still, the art is solid, and it’s fun to see the characters continue to progress.

Better than the last

I miss reading the Alita story apparently. It’s amazing he’s still writing it! A story almost as old as me now.

Was interesting to see when this is in relation to the previous series. The short story afterward is good, too!

I was expecting that “Mars Chronicles” would all be prequels to the normal Battle Angel series, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that this volume takes place after “Last Order”, letting us find out what happens to Alita after the end of the last series.

This is everything we were wanting to see, including Alita post-ZOTT, plus what has happened to Caerula, Supernova, Queen Lumiera, Erica and others. And it also ties in with volume 1 of this series, events that we learn happened 200 years earlier.

A few things were confusing, however. First, it appears this is starting a whole new storyline that takes place after the ZOTT. That’s not bad, but the storyline itself is confusing and doesn’t seem to pick up from anything we’ve seen so far. Secondly, Alita seems different from when we last saw her. She seemed well nigh invincible with all of her powers last time, plus with the Fata Morgana and Last Order powers inside her. Instead she seems to be underpowered again with no real explanation, and her character just feels a little less developed and sophisticated. I hope this is rectified in future volumes.
