Good read. I loved the H, liked the h and enjoyed the romance. The action and suspense made it hard for me to put the book down. If I wasn't such a sensitive reader, I would have rated the book closer to 4.25-4.5 stars.



Safety

H - 29 years old. Has never cared for or been attached to another woman. Once he's sees the h, she's it for him :)

h - 25 years old. Had got married at 19 to a charmer that turned out to be anything but, once married. Marriage lasted two years.

ow/om drama - Kind of. H's ex shows up and wants revenge. Part of me felt sorry for her. She was violently tortured for 2+ years and is mentally messed up. Maybe a little psychotic. Wouldn't want her after me... She's a lot scary.

Ow/OM details - Yes. Enough details that I considered stopping reading, but the parts that bothered me were from 5 years before the H met the h, so it may not bother most other readers. H receives a text: Remember the cabin; remember the five times... H thinks to himself: The cabin where I sometimes took her to have sex, and five times, referring to the occasion where we once had sex five times in a row. Do we really need to know that?! Couldn't the confirmation of the text being from the ex be something more like - "remember the weekend we spent in the flea infested motel while on a job." I don't need to know he took ow to a f'ing cabin and f'd her 5 times in a row. Almost stopped reading there. Decided to read a few pages to see if there was anything that could redeem the book (in my eyes anyway). Thankfully, there was enough, but that 5 times in the cabin left a bad taste in my mouth for the remainder of the book. The following passages, some of which come from his thoughts from 5 years before, helped me to be able to read on, but still didn't enjoy reading anything that dealt with the H and ow: I didn’t love her, didn’t care for her. Perhaps I was cruel... Our rutting was always quick and shamed: coming together, never kissing, never touching except where necessary, and doing it as fast as possible, a quick release. A rutting like killing... there’s nothing truly between us that could be called a relationship. Even the label girlfriend is meaningless between us, because she’s not really my friend.

Violence/bloody - Yes.

Will I try to read more by this author? Yes, but I hope there won't be ow details like those that existed in this book.

The main story finished at 46% in my Kindle and was complete, it was a good read.
Both Max and Stella come from abusive father's, and then Stella's ex was worse than her father cuz it was not only the emotional abuse but the physical abuse, but she was got out of it fine and was a cheerleader while she got her dream of becoming a vet. Thanks to her father she meet Max cuz
he is the one that will give a hit on Jeff ( the ex) i guess he did care for her in his on way cuz if he wouldn´t done that well there would be no story.
Max and Stella were written to be made for each other and you can tell it by how the story unfolds and its deff. a hot read and the author did a great job with the characters back story and twists and turns.

The second complete story is enjoyable too.They are Mafia related but each read comes it comes with lots of action,drama and intrigue that won't disappoint. The second tale is called "Mine" also written by Paula Cox.

These two have an instant connection. Wow the love scenes in this are gooooood. There is action and suspense, and killing. They both had crappy dads, and odd circumstances brought them together. But it was meant to be. I really enjoyed the journey I was taken on with this story. I received an arc, btw.

The page count is deceiving because it incorporates two books not the one. The first story finished at 46% in my Kindle but was complete and a good read. The second complete story is enjoyable too. I liked them both. They are Mafia related but each read comes with a totally different tale and characters. Lots of action,drama and intrigue that won't disappoint. The second tale is called "Mine" also written by Paula Cox. For me getting two books for the price of one was fine but I would have liked a heads up from the start. Honesty is the best policy for readers to make a decision for themselves. It worked for me this time but who knows next time?................

WOW!

This is my first time reading this author. I loved the suspense and action in the story. Even though he was a killer he honored his code. I highly recommend this book and will read more from this author.

This book was amazing and I enjoyed it. It has everything that you need in a book all wrapped up in one. I just couldn't get enough. I wanted to see what all was going on. There were so many twists and turns in this book. I'm still wrapping my head around it.

Both Max and Stella come from abusive father's. Sad to say that Stella's ex was worse than her father. I don't know if her father thinks he is taking care of her and showing that he cares by putting a hit on Jeff or not. Max and Stella were made for each other and you can tell it. This was one hot read and the author did a great job with the characters.

I was guessing the whole time on what would happen next. I have to say that I was surprised with how this story came out.

The story of Stella and Max is a good read and worthy of a five star rating. This book will take you on a journey of a girl who's father was abusive to her because he did not know how to deal with his wife's death which leads onto the heroine marrying an abusive man who wants to kill her for leaving him. Max who is the hitman hired to kill her ex when he comes looking to her to kill Stella after his release from prison. A book full of twists and turns that captivates the readers attention.

rvcd an advanced reader copy for voluntarily providing a review. i like how paula's books and detailed down to every character, every action and every step...this book is no different. we meet hitman extraordinaire, max, hired by a wealthy businessman to take out his ex son-in-law for beating up his daughter. we then meet stella, cheerleader by game vet student by day. she is at a game when she spots her ex-husband talking to the most gorgeous man she has ever laid eyes on. the next thing she knows...she is being taken in for questioning bc the body of said ex-husband was found in her trunk. max's kill was clean and by his book...but he didnt move the body and now wonders if stella is in trouble. max invites himself over to stella to warn her and find out info but enda up in her bed. while scouting the area for trouble..he gets a mysterious txt..from his ex...who is supposed to be dead. there is more going on then meets the eye and for once max isnt in control. can he protect stella? can he get to the bottom of what happened to his ex and if she ia really back from the dead? drama, mystery and suspense make way for a great read.

This is my first book by Paula Cox and it is a Homerun for me. I ABSOLUTELY luv it when I read a new author and adore their writing. This is an awesome book. It's complicated, compelling and intense. Both Max and Stella have similar childhood abuse. Stella's is more verbal and emotional and Max is more physical and emotional. The abuser for both is their own father. Max was raised into a killer/mob lifestyle, abused by his father but his Uncle Issa, who is also in the business is also caring and thoughtful. Max is hired by Stella's father to kill her ex, Jeff who is just out of jail and planning to kill Stella. He abused her physically and emotionally throughout their marriage. Stella ignites a protectiveness in Max and she quickly developed trust for Max even though she has trust issues with men. Their chemistry is hot. something in him he doesn't expect. Stella doesn't trust men, I mean why should she. The attraction between Stella and Max is explosive and hot. I ABSOLUTELY recommend.

This book was interesting, had some great drama, and well developed characters. What kept it from getting a 5 star review was the characters just got in their heads way too much, it really slowed down the book. In spite of that, Max and Stella's story was compelling and was a different twist on the BB Hitman genre. Overall good read.

Stella and Max meet under strange conditions. one of them thinks they are protecting themselves as well as the other. the other feels innocent with family issues. their story, is one of love for each other and of family. this was a great book that I voluntarily read for a review. it was definitely written to entertain.

Dark Romances are not usually my thing but this one had me hooked from the start. Full of suspense with an ending that will surprise you. Absolutely loved the intense chemistry between Stella and Max. I highly recommend this book.
