ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Candace Blevins writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, epic fantasy contemporary BDSM romance, and two kick-ass motorcycle club series. She’s published more than fifty books. Candace lives with her husband of twenty-four years and their two teenaged daughters. The family’s beloved, goofy, retired racing greyhounds are usually at her side as she writes, quietly keeping her company. Or sometimes not so quietly.

Her urban fantasy series, Only Human, gives us a world where weredragons, werewolves, werelions, three different species of vampires, and a variety of other mythological beings exist.

Candace's various paranormal romance series are all sister series to the Only Human series, and give some secondary characters their happily ever after.

Her Dark(ish) Faerie Tale series gives us a close-up and personal look at Queen Mab, and her Dark Underbelly series is, as you’d expect, dark and (if you’re a little twisted) oh-so-yummy.

Her contemporary Safeword series gives us characters who happen to have some extreme kinks. Relationships can be difficult enough without throwing power exchange into the mix, and her books show characters who care enough about each other to fight to make the relationship work. Each couple in the Safeword series gives the reader a different take on the lifestyle.

What really happened to Ghost's mother? I could care less because she was obviously some idiot criminal who abandoned her shifter son during a dangerous time. Whilst her husband was serving the country, she did some stupid stunt. So when a story came out featuring Keisha, Ghost's mother, I was going to pass. And I admit, reading about a black woman jailed for drug trafficking is not my cup of tea. As in, who cares and it just plays into the stereotype that I don't want to read about. However, it is a Ms. Blevins book and I love her writing. I picked up the book and figured I would read a few chapters and then go to bed. Several hours later and completely wrung out, I shook my imaginary fist at Ms. Blevins and cursed her for yet another night foregoing my much needed beauty sleep.

This book caught me off guard and disarmed me. The characters pulled me in unexpectedly. Keisha is nothing like who I am and I doubt we would be friends. Yet Ms. Blevins made her relatable. Keisha is a character who is multifaceted and grew up the hard way. I did feel bad for Keisha, but not pity. Keisha fully owned up to her stupid mistakes and instead of whining about it, she did something about it. I was impressed with Keisha's drive and determination to become independent. Comparing and contrasting of Keisha before and after prison is nicely done. Understanding how and why Keisha made a mistake and was heavily penalized for it is Ms. Blevin's gift of storytellling. Within a few chapters, I wanted to know everything about Keisha. I became heavily invested in what would happen to her. I liked how Darnell, her ex-husband did not make it easy for her and still supported her.

What did I like about this story? I loved how it brought to light a big problem we have in our society. We tell criminals, do the crime, do the time. Then after they do their time, they are free to go. But are they really free? No. They are not. There are no easy answers for former convicts to reintegrate into society. Most employers turn them away because of federally mandated laws that hold a company responsible for hiring a criminal. But, these people are no longer criminals, right? They did their time. Yes, but no one wants them and if they have nowhere to turn legally, what is the other option? This entire situation is a set up for failure. Yes, this may make me come across as a bleeding heart crying about "reformation" and "rehabilitation". Not so. Because I understand for some, no matter the chances given, some people choose the easy way … breaking the law. How does one separate between those who want to take advantage of their second chance and those that will never learn? It is a quandary that many have debated for millenniums and still there are few good answers. Ms. Blevins comes up with her solution and I loved it.

Now, obviously, the solution here only works in the paranormal world, but what if we did adopt some of these ways to help people who need a second chance? Wouldn't our world be a better place? Watching Keisha struggle to keep her second chance humanizes her and helps me understand this plight better. Keisha faces adversity not just because of her record, but because she is a black woman. The stereotypes that she combats are unfair but it doesn't get her down. She works it so that people who perceived her one way due to her skin colour changed their mind. In essence, she is a catalyst for people to be better and more understanding. I loved this underlying moral lesson. We never know the story of why a person is the way they are, but through actions and empathy, we can find common grounds. This story left me energized to be a better person and remind me to see people as individuals. Because stereotypes save time but are an over generalization.

Now, this story isn't a lecture. Ms. Blevins delivers a compelling story of a spoilt princess who grew up the hard way and found love again. And oh boy, Ms. Blevins does not skimp on the erotic parts. Sexy and smoldering, Keisha and Darnell burn up the sheets. The light kink and anal scenes are delicious. Watching a broken relationship slowly heal and to see trust forming again between two lovers, it is beautiful. Darnell's obvious caution changes to all out dominating sex fiend. The sex is nicely blended into the conflicts of this story. The ending moves rather fast and is all nicely tied up with the help of a powerful friend. It is good to have friends in high places.

This paranormal romance is recommended to erotica readers who love second chance themes with lovers reunited.

Kitty's review:

Again, Candace Blevins brings us into the world of the Chattanooga Supernaturals with a compelling and intriguing story about love lost and then found again. About losing trust and then building it again. About who you really were, who you are now and what you want from the future.

Keisha and Darnell’s story was a complicated one but easy to read. It was heart-breaking yet joyful. Candace Blevins brought out every emotion and examined them with a fine-toothed comb. And, she did not disappoint me in the least with the story. Both Keisha and Darnell opened up and gave us a glimpse inside of who and what they were. You felt Keisha’s pain and disappointment in herself for what she did. But, she learned a severe lesson and turned her life around. Darnell had to learn to forgive her before he could trust her. With the help of their Mating Bond and other Supernaturals, they found their way back to each other with only some bumps in the road. It was beautiful watching them both open up and bloom together … watching Keisha realize just what she wanted from Darnell and that she could give him what he wanted. Love is a strong bond between two people that can be broken. But, that bond can be twice as strong as it originally was when the two people face their realities, their love and their pasts with open eyes and true hearts.

Candace Blevins did a beautiful job of making what could have been a bad situation, into a beautiful one. She is so open and honest with her writing that I truly believe everything that she writes. She makes it that real. She wrote Darnell, not as a betrayed man, but as a man with a heart who was willing to take steps to ensure the safety of the woman he once loved. She wrote Keisha, not as a hardened criminal, but as a woman who saw her mistakes and was determined not to make them again. Both of her characters evolved before our eyes and I am thrilled that Candace decided to share this story with us.

“Uncaged” was a bit of a surprise for me. Just when I think I know what to expect when I read one of her books, Blevins surprises me with something more. A story of second chances in a paranormal universe where that rarely happens, especially in this case, I loved Keisha’s internal thoughts as she wrestled with her before (prison) and after (now) life. It rang so true for me, I have to wonder if those who’ve been released and vow to stay on the right side of the law, feel the same. Also, both Keisha and Darnell are closer to me in age and their sexual activity was hot, hot, hot, which always makes me happy.

If I had to choose one thing that I liked most about Blevins stories, it’s that despite the supernatural elements that exist in this series, the couples…the relationships…the struggles…are very human, very relevant, and what remains such a strong draw for me.

“Uncaged” is a standalone novel in the Chattanooga Supernaturals universe and it’s always fun when other known characters pop in and out of the stories making me want to work my way through all the other stories and then read them again.

I received an ARC of this story because, well, I don’t like to be caged (as in wait). Unless we’re talking a really comfy cage with a thick mattress, plentiful GOOD wine and dark chocolate. Then, maybe.

With some stories you find that you can identify with the storyline or the characters, even
In a paranormal setting. Not a trigger perse but just a reminder we been there and done that.
I love when that happens.

Candace puts out book four in the Chattanooga series. Some points touched close to home. Great story with great characters. So many emotions popping off the pages. Besides the supernatural aspect the situation is real or can be.

I think all three had some growing up to do and adjustments to make. Trust and hurt are hard to get over and will take a bit of work from all three sides. The past when one is young and has stars in their eyes you walk around as if you’re entitled, a child growing up faster than he should have and a broken family, a dad making the heat of the moment choices.

The story flowed from beginning to end, which gave me plenty enough time to go from wanting to smack Darnell to wanting to kiss his face. A bit of danger that makes one really happy for friends that have your back. The yummy scenes hot and fan face worthy. I really enjoyed this story, it brought back something to me. Enjoy.

This was book 4 in the "Chattanooga Supernaturals" series. Darnell and Keisha were married and had a son Darius aka Ghost from RTMC 14 years ago Keisha went to prison for cooking meth while Darnell was away with the Seals so Darius was put into foster care. Both Darnell and Darius are wolf shifter and Darnell's wolf wants him to help Keisha get back on her feet. Darnell builds Keisha a house on his property and although she is grateful she grew up in prison and wants to stand on her own to feet. I really liked this book and both of these character's Keisha went through a lot in prison until she became a shot caller and even had a girlfriend she also learned how to do hair and when she got out she got her license and Darnell helped her get a job. When Keisha lets her wall down and she has a break down it's Darnell who holds her and let her cry and when he kisses her they both realize that they still love each other and the bond that he had broken when he divorced her came bad but not right and they had to redo it when it almost killed her when Darnell and Darius were both on a job. Keisha was upset when she discovered that Darnell had a tracking device on the bike that he let her use she also found one in her purse that Darius put in it turns out it was a good thing that they insisted that she had one because she was kidnapped by one of the guards from the prison because he was transferred to a men's facility. This was a really good book and I think I liked it more than their son's book. The sex between these two was hot. Keisha learned how to take care of herself and both Darnell and Keisha learned how to forgive and trust each other. This book was well written like the other books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and I really want to read more about Nathan the Lion King.

Uncaged

Candace Blevins created another great one. The characters reach out and grab your heartstrings and make it hard to put down until the very end, and does great at creating adult characters that work out their problems as adults instead of spoilt brats masquerading as adults. And there's no better example than what Darius and Keisha go thru to find their way back to each other in this second chance romance.

She screwed up...and now Darius' wolf wants to make sure she's safe when she gets out of prison. But... can the MAN forgive and can they find their way back to each other and the love that is still there?

It's got a HEA ending... I'll tell you that right now, because honestly? If you're anything like me, you WANT that HEA.. And do your best to not buy books that don't have one.

But the process to that HEA is REAL and sometimes raw and requires hard work. (though life was never guaranteed to be a bed of roses without some thorns and mistakes was it?)

OUTSTANDING!
Uncaged is a true second chance romance. This book is an emotional rollercoaster ride that will make you laugh, cry and gasp for air. Keisha has made some grievous mistakes but has done her time. Darnell can hold a grudge after all Keisha’s actions put their son at risk. But the truth of the matter is his wolf still wants her and truth be told so does he. Their son has forgiven her why can’t he. The crux of the story is trust. Can love exist without it?
This book took me places I never expected to go. You don’t really expect to explore the nature of love in a paranormal romance. The author tells of an incredible journey and the bumps along the way. Oh and some smoking hot sex too.

Second chances do happen and redemption in real!

I was interested in reading this story because I wanted to know more about Ghost’s mother. I didn’t really like Darnell after reading Ghost, but I have to say that I so totally understand his thinking after reading UNCAGED. I do think that he went too far, but his character totally wormed his way into my heart and won’t let go. Uncaged is awesome! This is a story of forgiveness and redemption, and shows that sometimes time does change people.

Keisha is an amazingly complex character. She fully admits to being spoiled and making very stupid decisions in the past. Now all she wants is to move forward and she is grateful for Darnell’s help even though she thinks that she will never have his love again. Darnell is so different from what I thought he would be. He feels pain and responsibility for the past and he should not. He fully didn’t intend to let Keisha back into his heart, but she never really left.

Candace Blevins has definitely given readers an amazing book. I have no idea how she can add the emotion that she does into her books, but she has done it again. There were times that I cried and laughed with happiness. I so recommend this story to anyone that loves a story of redemption and second chances.

Uncaged is a stellar second-chance romance. But the true beauty of it lies in the excellent journey-story.

Primarily, it chronicles the post-incarceration life and adaptations of Keisha, Ghost's Mom. The background behind her imprisonment was outlined in Ghost's self-titled book and while it is not necessary in any way to have read that book before this, knowing something about all of the characters featured in Keisha's growth is a real enhancement. What human Keisha gives readers, is the journey of a yet another very strong woman who owns her mistakes and dictates her future.
Of course the previous mate bond she had with her werewolf mate, Darnell, broken though it may have been, probably played a part in her course. Magic is as magic does, but in this case, innate character drives Keisha. And Darnell.

Darnell was not a personality I was prepared to like very much, based on Ghost's story. Not so much because of his reactions about his ex wife Keisha, but more because he was so dispassionate where his son and his son's stepmother were concerned. Not so in this book. He is on his own journey, but the magic happens with how the two of them worked at readjusting. And recognizing that even back together, they are not the same people with the same expectations of themselves or their relationship. That kind of introspection, the give-and-take, made for a great romance in the never-say-die kind of way. And while there was some high drama where Keisha's past was concerned, it fit, it flowed organically with the story line and it was dealt with.

I love characters *with* character. And I loved hard-earned relationships. Combined with the superlative supernatural element of this series, Uncaged is an entertaining and fulfilling read.

Uncaged by Candace Blevins is a story of bitter loss, failure, redemption and the gradual rebuilding of trust. This shows a depth of emotion from both Darnell and Keisha as they find a way to regain and relearn each other and develop a way to reconcile how they have each changed during the 14 years of separation. Forgiveness is not a given but has to be earned. This is story is well researched about the prison system and the struggles during internment and reintegration back into society. At its heart though it is a love story and the warmth of the two leading characters shines throughout the book.

As book 4 of the Chattanooga Supernaturals we are spoiled with so many favourites from the previous few books but also from Ms Blevins RTMC series and Unhuman series which all interlink beautifully to provide the reader with a depth of family, community and friendship. My bookshelf is full of all of this authors work and I am very luck to have been offered an advanced ARC copy for an honest review. I have no hesitation in adding this one the collection and recommending this author. This story can be read as a stand alone but the reader will gain more insight into this world if they are able to read in all sequence.

Blevins gives us a gift by writing about Ghost's parents crossing RTMC storyline and Unnaturals storyline seemlessly. It's a softer version of Blevins Fantasy fiction. Great character development and so much fun to read.

This is the first book I have read by Candace Blevins and it sure won't be the last. I really enjoyed this fun read. There are a lot of little different sub stories in the story line and I loved every single one of them. But the main story is a story of trust lost, love lost, and then learning to love and trust again. The characters and story line are well written and developed. Not once did I have to think about a scene and wonder what the authors was thinking about. This book to me felt almost like that favorite blanket you wrap around youself for warmth and security. I look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you Ms Blevins for sharing you talent with us. I highly recommend this book.

so here's the thing, I'm not big on "forgiveness" stories, mostly because it's the guy being forgiven and the girl falling on his dick without so much as an "I'm sorry". Well color me very happily surprised to find the tables turned and Keisha being in need of Darnell's forgiveness. I thought this story was very deep and the characters full of life and for a short story it did not skimp of the plot.
Loved it....a must read!

I was totally riveted from the first page. So many feelings right from the begging. Keisha is such a complex character. She has come such a long way from the woman described in Ghost. Darius also grows as the story unfolds and we get to see how much he still loves her. Another great installment in this series.

Keisha is released from prison after 14 years. Darnells wolf still sees her as his mate. The man cannot. In this erotic addition to Ms. Blevins many character driven novels, she weaves a tale of forgiveness and redemption in the style she does so well. I liked the inclusion of the RTMC members that wove through the story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Explosive. Exciting. Intense. Drama. Passion.

This was a second chance at the one love you know was meant to be yours for a lifetime. It did not mean that love would not come with some challenges along the way. This one took the two, Darnell and Keshia, out of each other’s lives for over a decade. The emotional factor was the key to then coming back together and the mating bond allowed for them to make in-roads into the complications that had come between them. Keshia had to pay for her crime. She had to learn from her mistake. She had to own up to it all, before she could forgive herself and make her life more than what it was. Darnell had to allow himself to forgive her. His bond with her created a link that was allowing for him to open his eyes and his heart.

I loved watching the two gain ground with each other. It was intense. It was beautiful. It was passionate. The love was lost. It was broken. It was discarded. It just was. But. . . but there’s something about a love that opens the door once again and find that connection that can survive the beaten, the thrashing, the climb back to make that connection that this time will be just that much harder to break. Darnell and Keshia had that second chance and the took the intensity and passion of it all and created something stronger. Despite the drama of the circumstance that lead them down the road south they made it back to each other. It just took time, patience, and understanding.

I must say this was the first book in this series that I read. I did not feel like I was on the outside looking in. I felt almost like I was getting a glimpse into a world that would welcome me and allow me to grow with them whether it was here or at the very beginning. Chattanooga Supernaturals series has just gained themselves a read. I sat down and hunted down hard copies of each of the previous reads. I will start this time from the beginning and see what new things await me.

I really love Darnell’s wolf, even though we never really got to see him, he is what made this story happen! Darnell the man was hurt, and for good reason, and it ran deep, but he held onto it for too long. He held it strong and long after those he was upset for let it go and gave forgiveness. Darnell got there eventually, but at the cost of hurting those he loved. Keisha was awesome; She learned and changed to be a better person because she knew she had to. She was strong, independent, and knew her own mind and needs. She had a lot of growth from who she had been, making Darnell’s hanging onto the past even more stark. They moved past that, though things kept flaring up, and a whole new host of issues presented themselves. They grew strong together though, and the ending was a perfect as any second chance could be <3

Keisha lived by one set of rules in prison where survival of the fittest was a necessity. Now switching tears and learning to live on the outside by a different set of rules may be even more challenging. Her ex, Darnell, has made it clear that he will tolerate her but he definitely does not trust her. The problem is his wolf feels exactly the opposite. Keisha knows that she will never again allow anyone to back her into a corner and that includes her ex-husband. They tenuously navigate a new stage in their relationship once it becomes apparent that neither one ever stop loving the other.

Darnell & Keisha

Two people lost their love & their lives turned to Hell. Darnell & Keisha lost their love, she went to prison & he was a SEAL off on missions, they both turned hard. This is a story of two halves becoming whole again. Wolves mate for life. She'd always be his. But he couldn't trust her yet. Keisha gets out & Darnell helps her get back on her feet. Working at the Salon was a start & she had plans, hopefully one day she'd have her own Salon. For now she had her tiny house in his backyard, use of the Harley, & the ability to see her son, Ghost, whenever she wanted, but mostly she was learning how to live again. Darnell wants her, he starts to trust her & has faith in her, believes what she says. Can they work together?

Enjoy!! I loved it!

I quite enjoyed this installment in the CS series. Darnell and Keisha are not your typical leads in this book. They are older and this is a second chance for the two of them after a long, tough separation. The BDSM component is not as intense as in other books and the violence isn't as much either. That doesn't mean there isn't action, there is. I just feel like this book focused more on the relationship of the couple and those surrounding them. It does deal with issues surrounding rape though the actual events are in the past.

This book is best enjoyed after reading the other books in the series, imho.

Second chance/wolfish/not-as-simple-as-it-seems masterpiece !!!
Candace has done it again and I love her for it !!
The book is off the charts, and even if you think all things are good the first couple of chapters, you don't know who you are dealing with here --- Candace is well known for her twists and turns and she has a truly sadistic nature when it come to her characters that you TRULY never know what to expect till the last page, and even then its not over :)

This is a story about giving love a second chance, what it means to be mated for life, and accepting mistakes and growing up. Its story of Darnell and Keisha - mom and dad of our Ghost.
I love that this book portraits a strong female character that learned form her mistakes and gets back on her own two feet and finds her happiness again and her place in her son's life and with Darnell, her life mate.

I truly enjoyed this book and it gets you hooked from the first page and the next thing you know, you are at the "THE END" part. Candace didn't disappoint and I got to meet again all of my favorite characters again :) #Bashful :) :)
the heat in the book is scorching even though its pretty mild compared to some of her other books, but it still burns down the house in the sizzling department. Definitely a re-read book in my collection

Another amazing read

I have to admit I was torn when I found out this book was featuring Darius's parents. I was not overly impressed with Darnell because of some of the choices he made in Ghost.

This story is not just about second chances. It is filled to overflowing with emotions. How would I survive in prison if I messed up? How does one start to forgive another for putting a loved one in danger? How do we start to forgive ourselves for not being perfect? What happens when you're released from a cage but can't feel free?

I have no idea where Candace finds such raw true emotions to put in her books but she continues to do it with flair. I love that her stories are not just hearts and flowers sickeningly sweet romance instead we get hit in the head with people actually living life. Good news is we get to read about life with a hot alpha male who more than redeemed himself. Oh my did he ever.

I was very interested in reading Uncaged, it’s a story about second chance love. Darnell and Keisha have not seen each other in over a decade, after Keisha gets released from prison, Darnell (or his Supernatural side) feels the need to protect her. I really wanted to find out if Darnell forgives her for what she put their son through, but what this story brings forth is what a person who wants to redeem themselves from really bad decisions can do. And it takes a lot of work to find that redemption.

We knew bits and pieces of Darnell and Keisha if you’ve read Ghost’s story as he is their son, you would have thought he was the only link to what they had, but there is another link within the Supernatural world that still binds them. Thoroughly enjoyed reading about them finding love again, getting to know each other again and relishing the new differences in their relationship.

Even though these characters are mentioned in Ghost’s story, this one can be read as a stand alone. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, I highly recommend it.

Great read!

I wasn't too sure about this story until I started reading it and, as with all of this author's books, I fell in love with the main characters! I recommend anything by this author, you will not be disappointed!

I have read every book that Ms. Blevins has released and every single time I finish one, I immediately want more! This was a great book and my only wish is that it were longer. I loved Keisha and Darnell's relationship and the way they both changed over time. Can't wait for more Chattanooga Supernaturals!

Awesome book

This is a great story. I loved how Darnell was able to give Keisha a second chance. It was great that Keisha had changed and wanted to stand on her own two feet. I loved this book.
