Vega Fowell has spent her life in the air. In fact, for almost three-and-a-half centuries, everyone has. But as a pilot aboard the airship Perseus, Vega’s life is routine, bordering on stale. The massive ship never goes anywhere—all she has to do is keep it afloat. Humanity has lived on the airships in relative comfort, far above Ashby’s nanobot-created wasteland. When the mechanics of the machinery hit critical errors, the ones in charge need to find a way to survive on land, without causing widespread panic. It’s an impossible feat—one Vega must overcome if she, and the rest of passengers, want to survive. But hope is born when Vega does a flyover of the mainland and spots something suspicious. An island. Smoke. What looks like the beginnings of a settlement in the midst of the bots. Could there be actual people down there…alive?
I really hate writing these in third person. So hey! I'm Stephanie. I have all kinds of books including post-apocalyptic, dystopian, and paranormal romance. This is my first venture into clean rom-com, and I gotta tell ya, I loved it. I have 12 books planned for the Calendar Girls standalone series, so buckle up, buttercups! It's gonna be a fun ride, and I do hope you'll join me!
What else do you want to know? My husband can usually be found sailing the skies as an airline captain, and my daughter is TEN now (::commence sobbing at the cruel passage of time::)!
I love to connect with readers, so please reach out any time! With nice things of course. Please don't troll me LOL. I have kindof a sharp tongue and little restraint when provoked. It's not cute.
This is the final book in The Dead Room Trilogy and I have to say I think it was my favorite one. The first book was a bit confusing in how it started for me and progressed from there. The 2nd book was more of a back and forth from 2 different times so you could better understand what happened to the world. This last book showed a different view in the beginning and worked from there but included the characters you had gotten close to in the 2 prior books. I enjoyed this story so much more for some reason and I really had trouble putting this book down. I was just wanting to see how it all turned out. I loved this book and have to say that Stephanie really knocked this one out of the park!! I would highly recommend this book, this series.
This is one of those stories that catches your attention from the first sentence. This book is the final part of the Dead Room Trilogy, so be sure to read them in order! Surprisingly good characters with plenty of plot twists. I couldn't put it down!
300+ years in the air; over 10,000 lives at stake. To land is fatal, but the ship is going down.....
Captain Vega is one of the pilots on the airship Perseus; it's been in the air for over 300 years. It was launched just before the nanobots overran the Earth. Several generations have lived and died in the seven airships, believing they are the last of humanity.
Captain Vega is asked by her commander to conduct a fly-by of the Earth with a jet, as the airship needs to be grounded for maintenance. Captain Vega undertakes the fly-by and discovers the Earth is a dead, dry, dusty husk.... covered in nanobots. But on the edge of a beach, Captain Vega sees..... humans! She reports to her commander what she found, and is ordered to take a shuttle down to the surface to ask the people for their help.
Once Captain Vega gets to the ground, she discovers the reason the humans are on the beach. They had come from an island off shore, attempting to build a settlement on the beach. She meets Mason, who is adamant that the islanders don't "owe" the airships anything in any way, shape or form. Captain Vega persuades Mason and several others to accompany her in the shuttle back up to the airship.
The islanders are dumbfounded at the plentitude that the airship occupants enjoy. Fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, pork and chicken. Toothpaste, soap and shampoo... fresh clean linens, new clothes. It's overwhelming for the former islanders.
Mason and Captain Vega butt heads as to what or how much the islanders can do to help getting the airship to the ground. While at an observation post, Captain Vega and Mason realize the remaining islanders are in grave danger, as the electronic "fence" the former islanders are using to keep the nanobots away is shrinking. While reporting this to Captain Vega's commander, an alarm goes off that the Tantalus (one of the remaining seven) airships is going down....
They watch in horror as the Tantalus with its 10,000 people goes down, and is completely obliterated by the nanobots. The situation is dire; their ship could be the next to go down. There has to be a way to either create a large enough field to get the ship down and protect it from the nanobots until repairs can be made, or to destroy the nanobots completely. But how? Frantically they search for answers, knowing time is of the essence....
What a roller coaster ride! This book has it all... suspense, thrills, horror at the situation, and a thread of hope twisting through the entire book. Highly recommend you read it!
Alive is the last book in the Dead Room series. It ties it all together in a way that keeps you on your toes. Also there is a little romance thrown in for a few of the characters. This adds a nice touch. In this one we get to see how the people that made it to the airships survived, and how the life in the air differs from the life on the mainland.
Also there is a need to fix the airships, but the problem is where to find the answer, and do the mainlanders as the people in the airships have the answer they need, before the ships start to go down.
Once more Mason steps up as leader, with a little help from Lehman, and introducing Vega into the mix.
All in all a great ending to a great series, which I am sure, you will enjoy reading.
The conclusion to the Dead Room trilogy is awesome! It was very interesting to read, and I had a hard time putting it down. I truly found myself guessing the outcome until the very end of the book. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who is interested in science fiction and post-apocalyptic writing. The plot was very well written, and the characters were well-developed. Ms. Erickson has done an outstanding job once again!
