Cassie Coburn Mystery #3

Whacked in Whitechapel

Rate this book
Things are even whackier than usual in London...

When a nurse is found murdered in the Royal London Hospital, Cassie think it's going to be just another one of Violet's regular old murder cases to solve.

But when they find out that the woman was killed by her accomplice, and that he got away with a number of vials containing the Ebola virus, the stakes suddenly get a lot higher.

As Cassie and Violet race around London before the deadly virus is unleashed, they find they're always one step behind. And to make matters even more complicated, Cassie finds herself thinking she should probably do something with her life. She just doesn't know what, though Jake and Brianne have a few suggestions.

Will Cassie and Violet be able to find the stolen vials in time to prevent an attack on London?

The Cassie Coburn mysteries are a cozy mystery series featuring a Sherlock-holmes style sleuth. If you want a light, fun, modern mystery featuring a San Francisco girl totally out of her element in London, and a crazy French woman who happens to be very good at noticing things, then this is the series for you.

Whacked in Whitechapel by Samantha Silver continues the wild saga of Cassie as she helps the brilliant Violet solve crimes. This time Cassie gets a text from Violet to come immediately to the hospital. When she arrives, panting, she finds out that Violet is no patient; rather, she merely wanted to know how long it would take an anxious person to get to the hospital. Instead a doctor found a nurse dead in a storage closet, and Violet has taken over the investigation. Soon Violet discovers that the samples of the Ebola virus in temporary storage at the lab in an effort to find a vaccine have been stolen, taken by this nurse, who passed the vials on to her boyfriend. So the race gets going to locate the vials and stop a potential bioterrorism attack.

Love this series !

After reading the first Cassie Coburn book , I immediately bought the next two . I have doled them out to myself so the fun would last longer . This third in the series was as action-packed and fun as the previous books. I sure hope the next book is released soon! Great characters, wonderful writing.

These mysteries are fun, with enough byplay to make them interesting... but Cassie is a doctor. In the US if you graduate from medical school you are a doctor...then you complete a residency. But residents are already physicians. So she will need to choose a new specialty, and complete a new residency (which is not the easiest) but it’s driving me crazy that they keep saying she isn’t a Doctor.

Don't judge this series by it's covers. I Love Them So Much!

Definitely one of my favorite cozy mystery series. Honestly, I think the only thing this series needs is a better cover design to match the content, the covers really don't do them justice. I have been listening to these with my 13 year old and she's loving them too. It's a modern take on Sherlock Holmes and Watson, with Sherlock character as a French woman with his personality and Watson's character is a American woman who moved to the UK after an accident kept her from being a surgeon and is trying to figure out what to do now with her life. These two polar opposite characters are forming a unique friendship and each of their investigations provide so much entertainment, laughter and suspense. This series is truly a lot of fun and only made better by the incredible narrator, her accents and acting skills are top notch!! I have broken down and bought them all but, if you have a credit then it's definitely worth it! These books are much better in order but can be read individually.

As a parent I would place this as PG13 - a middle school read and up. These books have been really pretty clean, very mild language, there is some description on the murders as to be expected in murder mysteries but not in an overly graphic way. The only mild warning is there is a love interest and there is talk of sexuality and attraction but there have been no sex scenes or anything of that nature.

This is the first book in the series that I've read, and I am hooked.

I loved Violet, she was blunt, highly intelligent and just a bit scary. Her parts of the story had me grinning the whole book through.

Cassie was also interesting, but compared to Violet, she came across as quite normal.

I loved the tension int he book, and the mystery was well done. It all made sense logically once revealed but there was nothing obvious about it, I really enjoy that, I hate it when I figure it out early on.

The narration was excellent, great character voices and the delivery was smooth and well paced.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Not a female Sherlock!

Violet Dupois isn't a female Sherlock Holmes. Rather, he is a version of her. This is one of my favourite series. I could see this as a TV series but only the Brits of Canadians could do them right. IMHO. Though there are backstories developing, not reading the series in order still works.
This time Violet & Cassie are struggling to track down Ebola vials stolen from a London hospital. Serbians are involved but what is their motive? Cui bono? The method & the madness of the perps may surprise you. Another cracking story in this series.

Violet and Cassie

I have now completed bookish 1,2,&3 and starting on number 4. Oof course by moose I know how they tend but each one is filled with humor and a bit of suspense and a little love. Just plain enjoyable reading. There are however a few grammatical errors that’s surprise me. Hello editors, check you grammar books, have got is incorrect out should be have gotten, tenses have to agree and the errors stick out like sore thumbs. I just don’t let them detract from the story. I love the cat that walks on a leash, out worship mine did. Read and enjoy.

This is a fun story with developed characters and a decent amount of humor.
When Violet calls Cassie to the hospital to help with a case where they discovered a body in one of the closets.
Violet follow the blood trail to the basement to one of the labs.
After looking to see if anything is missing, they discovered several vials of a virus that the hospital is storing for another research lab is missing.
Now, Violet is out to find the missing files before a terrorist attack is carried out in the city of London.

For me, the series ends here. The plot was entertaining but medical errors spoil it for me. If Cassie was a resident when she had her accident, she was already a doctor. At the end, it mentions the pathologist allowing Violet to experiment on bodies in the London morgue. “Usually she just tests how long it takes for bruises to appear, and what shapes bruises take when the skin is hit with various instruments. I’ve seen her do some chemical tests on other organs though. I’m really not sure. But she came in yesterday.” Besides being an unlikely scenario, dead people don’t bruise.

Modern-day Holmes and Watson

An American almost Doctor runs away to England and meets a French Sherlock Holmes. The books are entertaining and fast paced. Violet ( a French Sherlock) is brilliant, arrogant and extremely annoying. But she grows on you. There's no gratuitous violence or sex. Just entertaining stories.

Great read. Loved the characters especially since they were kept to minimum. Look forward to the next book in the series.

Cassie Coburn book 3

A new book, another mystery with Cassie & Violet racing around to find some stolen Ebola virus. Violet is her usual know-it-all self and together they get into some interesting situations. Cassie is coming out of her depression and the character is growing stronger with each book. This book is just as good as the first two. I loved being able to lose myself in London with these two totally different characters. Another 5 stars in m y book.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
