Start series with the first book, Date Night on Union Station.
Kelly has served as the ambassador on Union Station for over two decades, but humanity remains on probationary status. When the Stryx inform EarthCent that their membership status is under review, Kelly goes all out to prepare for the test of her lifetime.
I wrote Date Night on Union Station while taking a break from work on a science fiction epic I've been struggling with for years. The goal was to cheer myself up and to find out if there is still an audience for a science fiction comedy that gets its laughs from dialogue and funny situations rather than from gross-outs and shocks. As many readers have pointed out, the EarthCent series could be rated PG under the old fashioned system, no bloodshed, no graphic sex, no four letter words. And after years of imagining a galaxy for my epic in which multiple human civilizations are at war with each other, it did me a world of good to write about a galaxy where most people are just trying to make a living and find some joy in life. I received so many requests to extend the Date Night universe into a series that I put aside my epic for an extended period to write a sequel, Alien Night on Union Station. The events take place five years after the conclusion of Date Night, and the plot involves a mix of business, diplomacy, gaming and family relations. As a bonus, we finally get to meet Kelly's mother. After the positive response to Alien Night, I wrote a third book for the series, High Priest of Union Station, which is currently in the editing stage and due out in mid-October. I just started a book that extends the EarthCent galaxy with a different mission and cast of characters, though they may intersect at some point.
What can I say? I've basically been in business travel for two months (returned yesterday, with a week of vacation in the middle), and this bubblegum was all I could tolerate on five hours sleep a night.
A Drazen, a Farling and a Stryx are playing poker . . .
Sounds like the beginning of a good joke, right?
This was another excellent episode in the EarthCent series. I was VERY happy to see the Farling doctor get an expanded role in this book. I particularly enjoy the way that Mr. Foner introduces new characters and new species to the cast of regulars; easily incorporating them into the existing storyline.
As a result, there is never a dull moment and my interest remains peaked throughout. The good-natured humor I have come to expect never lets me down and I am no longer surprised by the funny looks I get from family members whenever I half laugh out loud before catching myself.
Thank you again for another wonderful contribution. Now . . . It's on to "Family Night."
The humans’ probation period is up and now the whole species is under review to see if they qualify for full membership.
Poor Kelley is cramming for the review like it’s a final exam she forgot about until the night before, while swirling around her is the usual humorous crazy of life on Union Station.
Foner reaches into his bag of tricks and pulls out a lot of oldies but goodies – poker nights, craft beer, adorable and intelligent puppies, Sesame-Street-in-space, baby robots, alien fashion, heartache and romance, fencing, catering, historical fiction movies, auctions, and, of course, SPACE PIRATES! (But not used in the usual way)
Another hilarious installment of life on the whacky but oddly uplifting Union Station.
In the course of a review of the human probationary status, the Earthcent Ambassador Kelly McAllister is involved in collecting feedback from the various alien ambassadors on Union Station. Kelly has also been dragged onto a committee to decide how to meet the Stryx demand for a reduction in piracy because of the economic impact it is having. Not a lot of new ideas here, but still fun to read except for a tedious courtroom scene near the end. This series is not one to drop in the middle of. The proliferation of characters makes it a challenge even for a reader who has been following from the beginning.
While some of the books in the series were more fun than others to me, I have to say I have enjoyed them all as a welcome break from the darker SciFi books I read. They have been a plesant diversion and I am looking forward to the next installment when it is released. Not high minded but very entertaining.
So, after all these stories, I still enjoy them but I am starting to get tired of Kelly's naïveté. However, I am not sure one could change it and still have her be Kelly.
This light-hearted, humorous sci-fi novel is worth purchasing and reading when you aren't in the mood for anything serious, but want something well written. Diplomacy, business, pirates, complicated relationships, very large puppies, a new alien and humor. What more do you want?
Hmm. While this book is just as fun as all the others, it does bring up a question that I've been wondering about as I read the series: how many more volumes can we have of Kelly and Joe before we're reliant completely on the younger generations and new characters for leads? We've seen Kelly age from her mid-30s to her mid-50s over the course of the previous books and now...we find that all of Kelly's alien friends are taking great pains to avoid discussing the fact that their lifespans are several times as long as we mere humans.
As I said, this book is just as light and fun as the others, but how will the alien characters react and change as they watch their human friends get older and older? What will it mean to Libby when Kelly passes on?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
the whole gang is back and of course I couldn't remember who went with who,at first, but it all started back by a few chapters! great story! still waiting for Sam and the Vergallian Queens story, although Vivian might give her a run for the money! Sorry I was giving a review for people who have read all the other stories, the plot thickens!!! pirates are involved, sisters are found, old friend/new lover has arrived something for everyone great story!!!
Well Foner did it again. These books are just plain fun. Tracing the adventures of Earthcent ambassador Kelly McAllister. This time she is preparing for a review to make humanity a full member of the tunnel network, as a cast of alien ambassadors give her "constructive criticisms" on humanity. These books have the uncanny ability to help us look at human relationships through the context of science fiction. They are thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
Another hilarious entry in an entertaining series. Kelly McAlister is the much-bewildered human Ambassador to Central Station, where the many aliens want neither our women nor our planet; they want our liquor and fruit and hot sauce! Deluxe handmade soap from Earth is an intoxicating delicacy, which the aliens eat in bars ....soap bars! Humans are the new guys in town, but are growing wealthy through fashion design and babysitting, which are exciting new concepts to the many alien species.
A must read, not because they're classic or educational, because they're fun. Enjoyable, you will smile, laugh and identify with the characters and such a cast of characters. I have every book in this series and consider the time spent reading them as good as a mini vacation.
This story contained all my old friends from the previous books. Lynx and Woojin have their baby. Kelly finds out what other species think about us and goes on a committee to stop pirates. Loved it.
Now we know what Beowulf was doing on his sleepover in the last book. Kelly gets an earful when she asks the other ambassadors for help preparing for the review. A very enjoyable read.
This series keeps getting better! Enjoying it a ton! This one was a little unusual in that it had an action sequence and a suspenseful sequence, in addition to the expected slice-of-life hilarity. A lot of fun!
Like the author, I am also addicted to these characters and their lives. It’s nice to have an easy escape to fall in to, and these books always provide one.
The worst so far. The too main stories, about pirates and "review" of humans, were just idiotic. The personal stories are still good, in a void, but are becoming far too repetitive.
Another great book in the Earth Cent Ambassador series . I was thrilled to read at the end that yet another sequel is forthcoming because the author "is addicted to my characters " . Aren't we all?!
How can anyone not like this series and it's loveable characters. With shy pokings at politics, religiono and human nature, this is a fun and easy read that's well worth the time.
Yes, seriously! The Stryx announce Earth's status as a probationary member of the Stryx Tunnel network is under review at the same time they announce that piracy in the network is out of control and needs to be fixed. Now. Are both related? Well read and find out! Have fun!
I adore this series. It's a lighthearted sci-fi adventure everyday for the human ambassador. She and her family brings unlimited amounts of humor and good natured ribbing to the Union Station. I love the interactions with the aliens. This episode was no exception to the norm. Hearing the comments the ambassadors from the other species had about humans was hilarious. Especially since Kelly takes everything so seriously.
Seriously. I LOVE this series. It's excellent fun, thought provoking and such a relief to the very tired space operas about earth being attacked by evil aliens we never saw coming. I think the aliens' attitudes toward the human newcomers is hilarious while also fascinating and the human ingenuity shown in the face of such venerable alien species energizing.
Kelly irritates me at times as she seems so easily irked and out of touch and maybe even fragile and shallow in her views and reactions. But I can live with that because I love every single thing else about this series and can never get the next installment soon enough.
Another great story. A fitting sequel to a light hearted, tongue in cheek series. It's fun to see what happens when Earth's probationary status comes up for review...
