“I Am Bane” part one! Bane is coming for Batman. Bruce must keep those he loves safe for five days in order to save Gotham Girl once and for all. But Bane will stop at nothing, and no one is safe.
Wait are they really dead or did he dress up three similar guys?! This is so good. Annoying thing about comics is no matter how many you read, you will always be missing information. You could have read 2000 comics like me but they are all about a single team or a single character 😂 That's why in this issue I got confused when the assassin asked about Arkham! Turns out that doctor was an Arkham descendant. He didn't die though. If Bane killed all three this would deserve five stars but I don't believe it. It's crazy how many people know Batman's identity at this point. How can you sleep at night knowing that both Bane and Joker know where you live?! Luckily I don't have that problem so I'll take a nap because my neck is hurting.
I hate to admit it, but "Killer Crocque-monsieur" and "Night-wings" made me snort. Also, the "Keep sticking it to the man. One fry at a time.". It's nice to have some lighter moments in a Batman comic. And, of course, it's always delightful to see the bat-boys (I'm not sorry) together, being as normal brothers as possible. I doubt Bruce would eat a hamburger with his fork&knife, though. Dude's been literally everywhere, he's been imprisoned, had to fight for his food... so unless he's putting up a show for the public (which I doubt, no one seems to care he's there, plus he's spending time with his adopted sons, I'm sure people don't believe the "rich douchebag" act anymore), there's no way Bruce Wayne wouldn't be comfortable in this situation. I mean, sure the fast-food's theme is awkward, but apart from that I'm pretty convinced he doesn't feel out of place there. Actually, I'm sure he feels more at home than he does at fancy parties. I know it's a silly detail, but it bothered me that King portrayed normal!Bruce the exact same way pretend-rich-jerk!Bruce is portrayed. And don't even get me started on them discussing their other identities so openly in a public place. Gosh.
In conclusion: nice issue, although the characterization is a bit all over the place once again.
Dang this was good. I have been rooting for Tom King to figure it out on this book, and this issue is one hell of a home run to end the 'bat'ting slump through the first 15 issues.
Apparently Tim Drake is dead?? I'm really getting sick of all the robins dieing we are all smart enough to know that they never stay dead. It's cheap and it's getting old. But anyway other than the first part of the issue, with the stupid batburger scene, this seems to be a pretty good setup for I Am Bane.
This issue hit my funny bone. I was chuckling throughout most of it. This was a calm before the storm and was nice to have. Also, having Finch come back to do the art is a plus.
http://www.nerdent.net/2017/02/01/bat... for more info. In Batman issue 16 King starts the storyline of I Am Bane picking exactly where I Am Suicide left off. I have to say I am expecting more from this arc than I Am Suicide that had its ups and downs. With Bane getting a major upgrade in Rebirth the Bat-family will be pushed to their breaking point.
The issue starts with Bane attempting to break the Psycho-Pirate from Arkham Asylum tying in well with the last storyline. Batman stops this prison break as he focuses on getting Gotham Girl the treatment only Psycho Pirate can provide. Later, Batman arrives in a Batman themed burger joint meeting all the former Robins plus Duke and details the Bane situation and to stay far away from the pressing danger. This gives the issue some jovial nature given the grim nature of the hour with the Robins banter ranging from hair loss to how Bruce eats a hamburger.
starts off in Arkham with band trying to get at psycho pirate. Bruce meets with the bat family at batburger. He says his burger with a fork and knife. Jason and Damion reference having been dead. Duke askes if he will be dead at some point. Bruce says no one will be dead, not after Tim. Duke walks out and says he's listening to Batman. Duck says he's smart for it. Catwoman signals batman, Batman warns her about bane, Gordon bust into the roof, she gets away. Bruce is taking Gotham Girl for a session. She freaks out . There are 3 bodies hanging by there necessity "I am Bane" spelled out in them.

*Note* Make sure you have read the previous story arcs (I Am Suicide) before you start this. Bane is coming back to Gotham and he is coming for the Batman. I was actually sad when I got to the last panel of this issue. "Awww, that's the." I said out loud to an empty room. I am sitting here by myself right now. I wish I didn't have to wait a whole week for the next one.
Goodness, how disturbing. Still not sure where King is taking this re: Catwoman, but the stuff about the Robins is great an ties in nicely with everything that's going on with Tim and the Detective arc.
Killer croque monsier got me. I have no clue what was going on prior to this as I haven’t read the other volumes/issue in this series but I still enjoyed it. I would read the rest.
Got the “Harley Quinn Batman Day Takeover” issue. Loved the Harley scenes too!
I loved the levity of the Batburger gag. The ending would normally bother me since I don't like gimmicky endings. But since I didn't believe it for a second, I'm letting it slide and seeing what the explanation is.
