There is something hidden on Earth. A secret so immense it's worth killing for. In a race against time, five travelers arrive, hunting a key that will change the balance of power in their world.

Jay's birth father is a monster. He destroyed half her world and established a twisted version of utopia from the ashes, ruled by the Five Monarchs. But his blood flows in her veins, giving her power beyond any human. She has to prove that she's not him; that she's better. With the help of her teammates, she has to stop him from destroying her adoptive family and her world by finding the one thing that can make her his equal. But will the world key make her a monster, too?

Dr Stanford Ellis, an American scientist, is tasked with understanding these travelers. What does their arrival mean, for his country and the world? He must unravel the mystery before it’s too late.

Little do the travelers know, they were followed to our Earth. The Walker King has come seeking the rebels, and will let nothing stand in the way of his revenge. Freedom comes at a price.

I thought this story was quite unique - I certainly haven't read something similar. The characters were well developed and the story engaging. Although this isn't a stand-alone book, it ended in a satisfactory place while leaving me a few unanswered questions to keep me waiting for the next book. I'll definitely read the sequel when it comes out. This would make a great action movie.

Aliens have arrived at a US Air Force base, but there is something odd about them. They look like humans, their gear is just like gear we would use except for three items of tech and they are healing at an unprecedented rate from burns that should have killed at least some of them. Where did they come from? What are they doing here?

I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns in this story. Sufferage has well defined characters and their motives are relatable. The protagonists have flaws that make it difficult for them to wear pure white hats. They are real in their need to free their people, whatever the cost. The antagonists range from a princeling who is arrogantly self serving to a king driven and consumed by revenge. To free thinkers these “royals” who enslave their people and sterilize those who serve them, must be evil, yet they have brought peace to their world, an end to disease, a rock stable economy, environmental protection and an end to over-population. Caught in the middle are people from our world trying to stop the invading force, but also very interested in the prize the invaders are seeking.

The “tech” in this story could be magic, but we all know about “any technology sufficiently advanced …”. This book fits very nicely in the category of Science Fantasy and is a fun read all the way around. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the World Key Chronicles.

Sci-fi/fantasy

Well written action novel, requires a bit of extra effort to keep up, definitely adult reading. Alternate realities and a host of characters push this first installment. Bloody and violent imagery at the muzzle end of high tech weapons from parallel worlds mixed with magical psychic powers wielded by a select few. Not much exposition or world building, the story is offered in close character interactions and dialogue.

Slow to start but revs up into a gritty sci fi adventure with a great variety of characters. Clearly ends on a cliff-hanger for the sequel - an exciting finish with vivid descriptions all through the book.
