Promising idea, but the book needs work. The premise for the story was interesting, but the book itself was mostly dialogue. There were gaps. One chapter would end at a ball and the next would begin at a luncheon days later without much notice. This type of thing happened several times.
And they went from a first kiss for Rosalind and then a chapter or two later she and the duke had a second kiss and then literally rip each other's clothes off. There are no repercussions or anyone catching them even though many people saw Rosalind leave the ballroom. Then the next page is epilogue. The story arc should have continued. How did the Duke's mother react? How did they resolve things with Rosalind's parents?

I didn't enjoy it as I expected I was a bit disappointed with the book. For me the plot had potential but the execution was quite lacking. The conversations didn't keep my attention, some of the sentences were very simplistic. Seemed very inconsistent. The book didn't hold my attention from the first page to the last one. And in the end the sex scene on my opinion totaly ruined the book.

If you've never read a regency romance before, I would say, "Start with this one." Bridget Barton doesn't make cardboard characters. She takes pains to make you feel somewhat engaged with them or at least in the same room with them. I loved the interaction between the Duke and Rosalind. Sparks go off between them and it's humorous.
If I may be fair, it reminds me very much of Jane Austen's book, "Pride and Prejudice" where her two characters "Lizzy" and "Mr. Darcy" don't hit it off right away. The attraction is there. The chemistry. Everything! The dialogue is fantastic. You just KNOW that Rosalind and the Duke will eventually pair up. The Duke and his sister have an extremely close relationship (which also reminded me of Mr. Darcy and his sister). So while the two authors and their stories are different, I still find striking similarities and I love it.
Rosalind's parents are embarrassingly desperate. It's ridiculous. Rosalind knows it. Her best friend knows it. The duke knows it. And dare I say it, even the guy that her parents are trying to marry her off to is fully aware of it. In a world of manners, airs, and graces, a good man is hard to find. The duke is a better man than most of that period. At least, he respects her. Sadly, Rosalind's parents have more respect for a playboy than they do for their own daughter.
I don't know about you, but I'm already looking forward to the next book.
P.S. To any Christian readers, there is a spicy scene towards the end of the book. But at least it's short-lived.

What an enjoyable series. Rosalind just wants to be happy but her parents think that it is time that she marries but that is the last thing she wants. She wants to be loved and cherished but she hasn't find that man yet and it seems like that she never will. Can she really go against her parents wishes or will she just allow them to plan her future? There is one man that will change her mind and he will give her the courage to take a stand. Heath isn't looking for love, he is happy for now but that is until he meets Rosalind, she is like no other. And he really enjoying being with her but they can never be and that puts him out of sorts.
Rosalind so hopes that she will be able to have a future with Heath as he is everything that she wants even when he makes her so mad. They just fit but things are about to get really hard for them both and the ball is in Rosalind court now will she do what she longs to do or will she bow down to her parents again? A really good read. Thanks to Beverly for the chance to read her story.

This is a historical romance taking place during the Regency era in London, England. Rosalind is a firey young woman suppressed by the controlling rule of her parents, who plan to marry her off to the first young man with wealth and a title that comes along, regardless of her feelings. Heath is the brother of Rosalind's best friend's fiancé, and when they meet sparks fly. She can't stand him and considers him uncouth, but something about him draws her to him regardless. Will she be able to escape the future her parents plan for her, and still live happily ever after? Will she end up homeless and with no way to provide for herself if she stands up to them? Or will the man she detests be her only chance?
I thought that this book was a quick enough read, but it was rather fanciful and predictable, like you were reading a fairytale and knew exactly what was going to happen next and exactly how it would end. Even though it is technically "historical" by way of its setting, it has very little actual history or even historical accuracy to it. I'd give it three stars as a light-and-fluffy fairy-tale-like romance, but I probably wouldn't read it again.

If you like historical romance , like me , you'll love this story.

A very engaging story of a woman coming in to her own. The Courage Rosalind shows in defiance of her parents to fight for the love she has for Heath, brings her hearts desire. Thank you for a most wonderful read, Danny Scott.

The dialog in this story was fairly stilted and rough. Several times the characters would laugh out loud at something that I didn't find more than slightly amusing. The plot was okay until the end and then she rushed them into a completely unnecessary sex scene. That really ruined it for me.

SPOILERS AHEAD! The story was OK, but the dialogue and even the narrative got to be fairly saccharine at times. Things at the end seemed to be a bit rushed, almost as if the author got the characters to the point where they realized they wanted to be together, then got tired of writing and threw in all the remaining plot elements: a sex scene, immediately skipping ahead to a wedding, and a reveal at the wedding that Rosalind got pregnant during the sex scene. I don't mind sex in these novels, but this one was too abrupt and not in character with the rest of the book. The characters weren't even sure they liked each other during most of the book, hadn't done more than kiss, and even their one kiss flustered the heroine so much that she ran away; then when they realize they do want to be together they immediately have sex in a stable?
And where was a scene of Rosalind informing her parents that she wanted the duke instead of the earl who had been about to propose to her? Of the duke's mother finding out that he didn't want the young woman she had been pushing him toward? Of the earl's reaction to being rejected? Of the earl getting his comeuppance for being a womanizer? Even of Rosalind's mother being excited that her daughter was marrying a duke instead of an earl? Like I said, the ending seemed rushed.
And where was a scene of Rosalind informing her parents that she wanted the duke instead of the earl who had been about to propose to her? Of the duke's mother finding out that he didn't want the young woman she had been pushing him toward? Of the earl's reaction to being rejected? A sweet story until the very end when it suddenly became a bodice ripper. There were edits that needed to be made throughout, from typos to overabundant dialogue and too wordy descriptions. I wanted to like it, but was especially disappointed at the end.

The ever cynical Heath Rutherford, Duke of Langdale, does like simmering title grabbing women. He wants someone that can see past all the pretension and be true to themself.I
Rosalind Danvers wants to chose whom she will marry and thought her title grasping parents would ask her opinion. However, her mother has a different idea. Now Rosalind has to accept what is being dealt to her or end up with no home or support.
Heath start off antagonizIng Rosalind from the !moment they meet but quickly realized he has found someone that can be his partner. Although he goes about it all wrong. Every time he tries to apologize, Rosalind throws it back in his face.
Rosalind on the other hand finds Heath To be arrogant, burrish, and ill-mannered. She has tried to be nice but that only gets more nasty comments from him. So she decides to give it right back to him tenfold.
The more heated the get the more outside forces, her parents, drive her to Edward Winthrop, Earl of Frinton. He see her as a conquest. Edward is vain, false, and a womanizer. He has a rovng eye for all the ladies, and feels they should bridal at his feet.
This rousing, witty, barb-banter that is between Heath and Rosalind is so refreshing and dun. The description of characters, flaws and all, will have you wanting to slap Heath and cheer Rosalind on one moment then reverse it the next.
Come along on the route through the season to find out will they find what each is looking for or will they go their own way? Will Rosalind stand up to her parents or will she cave? Will Heath get slapped or will be get missed or both? Will he find love of be forced to matter whom his mother demands?

My review today is on the Regency Romance, The Honorable Rosalind's Heart. I haven't read any of Bridget's work before but I did really enjoy this story. The book is well written, humorous, and heart warming. I'm sure you are going to love it.
Rosalind Danvers is about to embark on her third season. Her parents have made it clear that she would find a husband this time. She is not so sure. Her best friend has found her soul mate but Rosalind hasn't found anyone. Her parents arrange a courtship with the Earl of Frinton. He is handsome but she hasn't missed his wandering eye. How can she get her parents to understand that he was not the right man for her? Her best friends boyfriend introduces her to his cousin the Duke of Langdale. The man is arrogant and cynical and has no desire to marry. They are instantly oil and water. They are unable to have an ordinary conversation, all they do is argue but are drawn to each other.
The Duke of Langdale, Heath, is ex-military and jaded. He was forced to leave the military when his father died at an early age. His mother is trying to force him to marry a girl that is only interested in his title. He is intrigue when he meets Rosalind, she isn't like any other woman he has ever met. Would have been a great read if the hero had managed to redeem himself, which he absolutely didn't unfortunately...
Hero?
Not my kind of hero...
He is a conceited Duke who thinks he can simply insult the heroine whenever he pleases. Thank god she is direct as well but the hero never apologizes (never really, that is) and in the end, it's the heroine who has to crawl up to him to make him realize what a fool and tool he has been.
Heroine?
I liked Rosalind who was very much aware of the hand she had been dealt. Plus, she wasn't intimidated by the Hero and wasn't afraid to talk back.
Plot? Love Story?
I honestly couldn't tell you when those two actually fell in love with each other...
And I have no clue why the Hero didn't stop judging the heroine. What a conceited a**. Also, no clue why the heroine fell in love with him in the first place? Cause he was right in assessing her from afar? Cause he insulted her every time the met? Cause he showed no empathy for women at that time? Obv.
Writing style?
A lot of gaps, one chapter would end at a na they were attending, the next start ten days later.
A lot of dialogues, which I loved.
All in all?
The end was too rushed. (For instance, we have no clue what really happened between the MCs' supposed fiances or how Rosalind's parents would react or why in the hell the Hero deflowered the heroine in a freaking hay stack!)
I didn't really know why they fell for each other.
The hero never redeemed himself for acting the way he did towards the heroine...
Yeah, not my kinda romance story...

I rather enjoyed the sparring between the Duke and Rosalind. Of course, all that anger had to turn into passion. Rosalind must find the courage to defy her parents and go with heart. This is where a more mature female does not lack, that Rosalind does. She is just eighteen and still clings to her parents authority. My problem with the book, the duke could have demanded Rosalind's hand and it would have overrode anything that Lord Slyther had done. But the Duke begs Rosalind to tell her parents, and won't have her until she does. Duke gives credit to a naïve teenage girl, especially in a day and age where men think they ruled the world and women were made to stay home and be ornaments. Well, enough of the preaching. I liked this book and the plot and storyline were well written with the above mentioned flaws. Rosalind was a confused girl, who did not want to except her fate. The Duke was brash and sometimes very abrasive. It did not seem he understood how society worked and women have no choice. Lord Slyther, the name says it all. The parent were more concerned with themselves than their daughters welfare. It seemed the only person who was not self serving was Rosalind and she spent most of this book in fear of the future. This book says a lot about the vaguaries of society, and most aristocrats who ran England were self absorbed.

This is my second book by this author and it was also 3 stars.
I did like the banter and honesty between the H/h but they were at each other in verbal sparring than anything romantic. They each brought out the worse in each other. Until the last part of the story did you find any softness in the H. In the last few pages they have sex (didn't feel like lovemaking) and it felt out of place - too fast. Neither gave it a thought they could be caught in the stable having sex? They both ran from the ball, away from two people who were trying to force a union who could have followed.
Why would the h's parents rather have an Earl than a Duke? Why was the Earl so set upon a women who he knew felt nothing for him? Why would the H's mother invite a lowly Baron whose wife is intolerable, plus provide competition (the h) against someone she is pushing her son towards?
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, simple story, no romance, typo's and a tad of steam - heat level 1 out of 5 and described once.

A fiery young lady, an arrogant Duke. They despise each other at their first meeting, tossing barbs and veiled accusations at each other at every opportunity, with a predictable ending. The book was very short and I feel like if it had been longer than maybe the author could have pulled something out of it.
My issues with this book, are many
1. typos, so many typos
2. tedious and over done dialogue
3. lackluster characters, with seemingly no emotions or connections to each other
4. the chapters, were more like scenes cut from various parts of a movie.. lack of cohesion
5. good concept, but poorly executed
6. The short length of the book, I feel like the plot could have been better with a longer story
7. long descriptions about the surrounding, seemingly out of nowhere.
It rather pains me that I have nothing good to say about this story, honestly I most likely wouldn't have finished it, except that it is less than 100 pages. Historical Romances are some of my favorite stories, but this one just did not do it for me.

I actually liked the story which is why I'm dissecting the disappointing ending.
I liked the Heath and Rosalind as much as I disliked her parents and the Earl. The end felt very rushed and out of character with the rest of the book. Rosalind should have escaped with Heath spiriting her away to the library for the pivotal scene sans her deflowering. Alone in a room with a man, both somewhat disheveled during a ball; that would have been more than enough for the couple to be forced to wed. Where was the parental comeuppance? I eagerly awaited that scene but nothing after she ran from the room. The Earl only wanted Rosalind because Heath did. The animosity he showed toward's Heath was far more than the lame we went to school together excuse. Again I wanted his reaction to being thwarted. The ending needs a re-write. If you can throw in a scene or two with Eliza and Rosalind getting to know one another that would be an added bonus. And Eliza the heroine for another tale.

I eagerly awaited that scene but nothing after she ran from the room. The Earl only wanted Rosalind because Heath did. The animosity he showed toward's Heath was far more than the lame we went to school together excuse. Again I wanted his reaction to being thwarted. The ending needs a re-write. If you can throw in a scene or two with Eliza and Rosalind getting to know one another that would be an added bonus. And Eliza the heroine for another tale.

I was really disappointed with this book. The plot of the book had potential but the execution was lacking. The writing was weird to me. The conversations and thought processes were abrupt and stunted followed immediately by a description of the person's surroundings. Then it felt like some of the sentences were very simplistic only to throw in a "big word" at random. Seemed very inconsistent. Then there was the sex scene at the end which completely ruined the book for me. I appreciate knowing when there is going to be foul language or a sex scene so I can avoid such books. I know others don't have a problem with sex scenes but for me I would rather not read about them and they ruin a book. All in all although there were parts that I could have enjoyed throughout the book had it been edited better and the writing better overall I didn't enjoy this book.

This particular little short tale is about a young lady from a minor set of the nobility whose parents are intent on furthering themselves within polite society at the expense of their own daughters happiness.
Rosalind Danvers finds herself trapped in a world that frowns upon originality or spirit.
Enter the Duke of Langdale, Heath Rutherford, a man of forbidding countenance and cynical disposition who finds the young miss intriguing despite himself.
Needless to say a somewhat unconventional type of romance takes place and these two almost adversaries find that one passion becomes exchanged for a deeper one.
I enjoyed the shortness of the story despite the lack of proper development of it's character beyond superficialities for the most part and the surprise romance was no surprise to me and also well matched to it's owners.

Oh my gosh, I was SO disappointed in the ending of this book! I know it was supposed to be the ultimate in romance and surrender--but it just felt gross to me. The rest of the book was very, very good, and I couldn't wait for the fairy tail ending. But what it really felt like, once the big reveal was made, was a couple of horses or dogs going at it in a barn stall. It totally killed the whole regency romance feel of the book. I was given to understand this author kept her content clean--and technically maybe it was--but that didn't keep it from feeling absolutely unromantic and trashy. And unnecessary. It could have been amazing. Due to the other 90% of the book being so good, I'm still giving it 3 stars, but I won't recommend it to anyone.

A Good read. I got my copy from the author. It has a few negligible editing issues on the first chapters and the word "intense" have become redundant and the descriptive phrase "...like in a cage" was repeated. In a novella, it would be quite easy to spot redundancies like these. Other than that ~ it was Good, interesting even. At least it was not dragging, dull or boring and most of all it has its humorous moments. Ms. Barton is a competent storyteller, I only hope she employs a good editor for her next novel to spot those distracting redundancies ~ they do disturb and disrupt the flow.

If your a voracious reader like myself, this story will be a quick and enjoyable read. i finished it in less then 24 hours. It is a feel good, romance with Regency wit. The heroine is definitely better developed in the story then the hero. In the end, its the happy ending we all like. Just be warned, if you are looking for a steamy Regency this is not for you. Although there is some intimacy, it is brief in the story, but is does not lessen the story. As promised, the happy ending is satisfying.

I listened to this book.
The narrator barely paused at the end of sentences often making them sound as though they ran together.
There was NO pause between a sentence and the chapter. “The duke watched as she ran away chapter 9 Rosaland couldn’t believe what happened…… “ it all ran together. Very disappointing. Then the narrator expressed no emotion in the reading. Like he was just reading words without any connection to them.
If you are buying this as an audio book, I don’t recommend it. I wasn’t thrilled with the ending either. It was unrealistic and rushed.

I want to say this was an easy read, but the amount of typos was nothing less than irritating and sometimes confusing.
I would have liked the story much better if the end weren't so sexualized. That was incredibly unnecessary and a bit out of character for the lead. And it made her seem stupid to compromise herself like that in that era, she didn't know him well enough to know he wasn't going to just have his way and say tata. If they were going to marry so soon, they could've waited.

this was a very quick read I'm one that I enjoyed for the most part. the ending though was completely rushed and I felt inappropriate for the times. Well bred people didn't run out into the Stables and make love because they decided they love each other. They waited until they were married, it was the Scoundrels and the bad guys that did things like that. It really irks me when authors seem to think that people in those days acted the way people do in our days .

This was a pure, unadulterated chick lit Regency. The heroine, Rosalind, is in her third season and her social climber parents are determined to pick out a husband for her. Her best friend is being courted by a young man who introduces Rosalind to his cousin Heath, a Duke. Lots of feistiness and disagreements follow. Anyone who enjoys Regencies knows how it ends. Thanks to the author and publisher for an e-galley for an honest review.

This book was okay although the hero, Heath, annoyed me in parts, mostly as he was condescending to the heroine Rosalind. He gives her advice about telling her parents she won't marry the man they pick as she's not happy but as he lives in the same class he should know that women don't have the same freedom as men when it comes to marriage. The scene at the end in the stable didn't seem to fit the rest of the book, I'd have been quite happy for the book to finish without it.
