I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.
I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.
National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

The Outlaw Hearts saga continues from Outlaw Hearts, Do Not Forsake Me, Sweet Love's Revenge to the final installment The Last Outlaw. Jake Harkner is in his sixties but still in his prime. His wife and lover, Miranda or "Randy", is ten years younger. Jake and Randy are surrounded by their children, and grandchildren in the hills of Colorado. It has been less than a year since the ending of Sweet Love's Revenge, and the trauma that was dealt their family, including the attack, kidnapping and violation that Randy suffered at the hands of their enemies. And still, Randy hasn't recovered back to her normal vibrant self and Jake is getting really worried about her health. She is barely skin and bones, clinging to him at every moment. For the longest time Jake has had to rely on Randy for her strength, love and support. Now Jake has had to be Randy's strength. Jake is still haunted by his past especially in the early events of his life. Ever since he'd found and fallen in love with this woman, he'd always had her to lean on, to keep him from the abyss of blackness that beckoned. Tough and able as he seemed to others, she was his strength. And now that strength was gone. The tables had turned and he had to be strong for her. "Randy, when you figure out what more I can do, or what it is that will help you get better, you tell me. Don't ever be afraid to tell me--anything--all right? You know I've seen it all and done it all and nothing surprises me. And I love you, I'll do whatever it takes." As Jake and Randy learn to cope with recent events, and right when they think they have finally come to terms and enjoying the life they have fought so hard for. Jake will be asked to go on a mission, a mission to save an innocent girl's life, but a mission that could mean Jake being separated from his family forever.
In the Last Outlaw I was completely drawn into this story and captivated by one of my all time favorite couples, and to be frank, if I had to choose one couple I adore the most it would be these two. Jake and Miranda have gone through so much together but what always gets to me about them is seeing how devoted they are to each other. In the Last Outlaw, however, the focus of the story is Jake and his past. We see what he is suffering, and that he has to face his past in this book. We see how much he values family, however, he has some self-worth issues---actually some major ones. However, we see that despite how he feels about his past and himself, the steadiness of his family's devotion is what gives him strength when he needs it the most.
Miranda is struggling with a recent trauma and we see the effects of PTSD. For those who have read Love's Sweet Revenge, know exactly what Randy suffered and in this book, we see the after effects of that trauma. In the first half of the story, we see how this trauma has changed her. Randy in the previous books, is spirited and compassionate and independent and very strong willed. But we see how this changes her from strong willed to depending on Jake completely, barely eating anything, and keeping her fears secret. She clings to him and can't bear to be without him for any period of time. What I truly admired though, was seeing that even though Jake was helpless, not having any clue on how to help Randy, he never gives up on her. He is one hundred percent steady for her, patient and understanding but firm. This part of the story was quite heartbreaking at times. Mostly because of Randy, is such a strong character and one of my favorite heroines. To see her struggling so much just about breaks your heart. Especially when you know who she really is, and that she is trying to work through the trauma but it has changed her. But it does happen, and eventually, she returns to her normal self, but I did respect that Bittner chose this path for Miranda. Mostly because it shows the effects of trauma's and how much it helps to have strong support from family and friends. "Who do you belong to?" "Jake Harkner." "Every damn inch of you, plus your heart and your soul. I have you back and I don't want to lose you again." We get plenty of fun times with the Harkner family, and I loved seeing their family grow. We see such strong relationships that Jake and Randy have with their children and their grandchildren and the men and women they work with on their huge ranch. This is part of what makes this series so wonderful, is seeing that Jake and Randy are at the center of this great family. And the ways that they stick together during the hardest of times. The last part of the book especially, we see the importance of these family bonds since it gets them through one of the hardest challenges they will ever face.
The romance between Jake and Miranda is just as fabulous as many of the other books in the series, but we see something change between them. There is a depth between them here, as they face the torments of the past and learn to rely on each other. We also see how strong they are even when they apart from each other. As the last official installment of this brilliant love saga, it met with every expectation, it surpassed in emotion, drive, and elements. It's a story that will make you cry, make your heart and soul bleed, but will also give back joy and humor. A story that felt real and alive---- A BRILLIANT ROMANCE FROM A PURE TALENT OF ROSANNE BITTNER!!
I had such a great time with this novel! This is the fourth book in the Outlaw Hearts series and I would recommend reading the series in order since the series features the same main characters throughout the series. In this book, Jake is in his 60s while Miranda is in her 50s and I really appreciated the fact that this romance was about a couple that has been married for 30 years. This book was probably my favorite of the series so far.
After the events from the previous installment, Miranda is in a bad place at the start of this book. She has lost most of her confidence and doesn’t want Jake out of her sight. Jake has been very patient and wants to see her get better. While they are in town, Miranda finds herself in danger and Jake does what he must. Over the course of this story, Jake will find himself in danger several more times. The story was really exciting and it is obvious just how strong the bond is between the pair. I really loved the romantic aspects of this established couple that has been through a lot together over the years.
I would definitely recommend this book to others. I had such a good time with this book that I hated to set it aside. Jake, Miranda, their children, and grandchildren all play important roles in this book and the series as a whole. I almost feel like these characters have become a part of my family and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received a digital review copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca.
A hard-hitting emotional read, gritty action, and above all, a decades long love affair that stands so many tests. The Outlaw Hearts series holds a solid place on my best of the best list and this latest, The Last Outlaw, was no exception.
While some of the books would work alright out of order, this one has the feeling of a culmination of all that came before it and references events from the previous book, Love's Sweet Revenge. In fact, I'll need to reference what happened in that one so there will be some mild series spoilers.
The Last Outlaw picks up several months after the dramatic finish of Love's Sweet Revenge. Jake's still on tenderhooks with the local law as civilization is taming the Wild West and shootouts are becoming rarer. Lloyd is healing from being shot and stepping up as son and partner on the ranch as in family affairs. Jake and the family are very worried because Randy isn't recovering from her ordeal.
I thought the author handled her attack well. Randy is a quietly courageous woman and it was tough to see her struggling so badly with her fears and the dark feelings that come from being abused, but the struggle had to happen after the dark, horrific things that happened to her. She and Jake take turns being the strong one for each other. Jake was such a steadfast husband and lover. This pair may be in their autumn-winter years, but they are deeply in love and strongly passionate.
There was a big opening scene and then I loved how the story focused on the family and catching the reader up with them. Three generations of Harkners live on the ranch and its never dull for them. The characters in this series are engaging and I love them individually and together.
There are a few plot threads introduced- trouble with a disgruntled neighboring rancher, a missing girl taken in a human traffiking scheme, and past issues that build into a tempest later. Jake is really struggling with getting beyond his horrid earlier years and the peace he has now. Guilt and feelings of not deserving his new life threaten to overwhelm him. The internal struggles in this one were as compelling as the external ones. And yes, like other books by this author, this one did require tissues. These really grab my emotions with the humor, heartwarming, passion, and gritty battles.
The story flowed well and was a good blend of action and character plotting. It may be the end, but I am crossing my fingers that the author comes back to write more about new generations in the family and give peek-ins with Jake. I loved this historical western romance and can easily recommend it to others who love gripping family sagas, engaging characters, and passionate romance.
My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Outlaw Hearts Saga has been one of my all-time favorite book series. I love Jake, Randy and all the Harkner family and The Last Outlaw is another great edition to this families story. I hope the publisher will allow Rosanne Bittner to continue this series. I feel that their story is still not finished. Jake needs to find complete peace and happiness in his late years of life.
True to Bittner books this book draws you in in the first pages with a dramatic event in the families lives. Trouble just seems to follow Jake even when he's just out with family in town or living life at the J & L. Jake has always had Randy to be strong for him and to help him get through all his dark moods and times. Tides have turned in the beginning of this book with Jake having to be the strong one to get Randy through a very withdrawn and dark time in her life after the abduction and being viciously assaulted. Randy had just gotten back to being herself when Jake finds himself in a deadly situation that he can't avoid.
This is a must read and an emotional rollercoaster ride that you just won't believe that anything else could possibly go wrong for the Harkners. This family has a blessed life most of the time but there always seems to be trouble out to get one of them around every corner.
The Outlaw Hearts saga continues with an intense guns a-blazing opening, as only Rosanne Bittner can deliver. The Last Outlaw is everything her readers expect from such an amazing family. Just as Ms. Bittner's epic Savage Destiny series engulfed our hearts and souls, The Outlaw Hearts saga equally encompasses our hearts and feeds our souls. Jake and his beloved Randy have seen it all, survived it all, and once again will be tested in the most traumatic ways. Jake wants more for his young son and daughter, and grandchildren, he wants them not to follow the life he has lead. From Outlaw, to U.S. Marshal, to rancher, Jake only wants to be the family man he's always craved, but will he get the chance, as he's needed once again to right a wrong and face a demon, a demon, a lifetime in the making. How much more can the Harkner's endure and can they survive this newest turn of events? Jake's sweet dispositions and interaction with his grandchildren is precious and so worth witnessing. Even an Outlaw like Jake has an achilies heel when it comes to these little Harkner's. This was truly an amazing book that will help heal our hearts after Loves Sweet Revenge's traumatic ending. Rosanne Bittner's, The Last Outlaw, is phenomenally written with a heart-felt, nail-biting, emotional conclusion. So saddle up and hang on tight, The Harkner's will encompass your heart and feed your soul.
Okay, when the book starts out with a bang, and just keeps going, do you love or hate the author? Once again Rosanne Bittner, takes you on a journey. You will feel every emotion a person can feel. I have loved Jake and Randy since book one of this series. I wanted closure after book three, and I got some. The love that Jake has for his family is at times overwhelming. But the past just keeps popping up and takes him to a dark place, that no one can reach but Jake. The emotions he goes through in this book made me cry, laugh, get angry at him, then back to love. He is the strongest willed person and I would love to hug, and hit on the head and ask, what is your problem? Your family loves you. Randy, is a strong lady, that lost her way, and needs to get it back together. Her family worries, and she isn't talking. Her love for Jake is so deep, she let's it overwhelm her to the point she looses herself, or does she. Another awesome read.
Very rarely does a writer come along that touches ones heart and soul as deeply as Rosanne Bittner. There is definitely a reason she's called the Queen of the Western Historical because she can continue to write such heart moving sagas. The Last Outlaw is such an emotional charged book, that is almost impossible to put down once the reader starts. Will Jake and Randy finally finally get the peace they have so desperately wanted for over 30+ years. Can Jake finally make peace and have closure with his past that has forever haunted him. One simply must read The Last Outlaw to find out. I don't believe I have ever read a book that touched me emotionally as The Last Outlaw did. The Harkners are a family that will never leave ones heart and soul!!.The touching moments Jake has with his grandchildren and in theses moments it's hard to believe that Jake could ever have been the big bad Outlaw he has been in the past. I truly hated for this book to end. I didn't want to leave those beautiful mountains of the J&L Ranch.
I started this book when it first came out but couldn't finish it at the time. It wasn't because I didn't like it. I've been mad for these books and Jake and Randy and their growing family for since the original Outlaw Heart book came out over 20 years ago. Yep, that's how long I've "known" the Hackners. Then when Outlaw Hearts was reissued as an ebook I picked it up in that form. I'd read it every couple of years since the first time since for me, it's the best Western romance ever written.
Then when Ms. Bittner came out with more stories, well I was in Western heaven and devoured them as each one came out. That is until this one. I started it but it's so gritty and so emotional I wasn't in the right place to read it and do it justice. Jake and Randy had been through so much over the years, I just couldn't bare to see them go through hard times again. But I've been rereading them again and it was time to try this one again.
It wasn't easy. This is the toughest of the four books in terms of emotional punches. It starts out with Randy in a very bad place as a result of the horror she faced in the previous book, Love's Sweet Revenge. In all the previous books, Randy has had to be the strong one, the one standing up for Jake. But in this book, Randy is the one who really needs Jake and he's lost as to how to help her.
Just as things finally start to get better for Randy then something comes up to separate them again and this is the most dangerous of all.
This book can not be read as a stand alone. In order to understand all that the Hackner family has been through, you need to have read the previous books in the story. That's why I'm not giving a lot in this review. I've said it all before in previous reviews. Just want to say that The love between Randy and Jake is the strongest love I've ever read in any previous romance with perhaps the possible exception of Claire and Jamie in the Outlander books. Although totally different in so many ways, there is the same kind of passion and love and love of family in both series.
This book seriously made me cry. And without giving spoilers - this is a romance - no need to say more *grin*. It's remarkable. It's beautiful, the whole series is so special I've no doubt I'll be reading it again. It's one of those rare experiences in reading that stays with you long, long after you read the final page.
I've reached a point where I'm just bored with Randy and Jake; I never thought I'd reach that point but here we are. If Bittner decided to pursue their kids or grandkids, I'd be interested. But I think as much has been pumped from Jake and Randy as can be.
As I’ve said it before, it is always one hell of a journey with Miranda & Jake and their ever growing family. This book was very bittersweet.
I have fallen completely in love with Jake as a character. He is a very complicated man, a ruthless outlaw and a loving husband, father and grandfather at the same time. Even to his old age now in this book, he is still the broken young boy on the inside. I am glad to see that he finally let go off his past in this book and it warmed my heart to see him finally being happy, with no worries of anyone coming after him.
Towards the last few chapters of the book, I teared up because I really thought Jake was gone. Rosanne Bittner has mentioned that she also fell in love with Jake and his story, so I believed that she wouldn’t let him die. I held onto hope and was elated when the worse didn’t come to pass.
Rosanne Bittner is a very talented writer, who does storytelling very well and makes each and every of her character in the book (except the bad ones) very lovable. She has done a great job in engaging the reader’s interest and emotions. She has definitely done that to me.
I’m mighty glad I decided to pick up this series. It has been a wonderful ride for me. Jake’s and Miranda’s wonderful love story has been scored on my heart and mind.
I’m going to read the novella while waiting for the last book to be available in my country. The novella - A Chick-a-dee Christmas seems to be about the Harkner’s family’s happy Christmas. After all the hardships this family has gone through, I’m definitely going to need to see them happy.

As a nod to the changing times, Jake has sworn to hang up his guns once and for all. In fact, he and his wife Randy are enjoying this new era of peace on their ranch...until Jake's embroiled in a rescue mission that he simply can't refuse―possibly his most dangerous yet. Outlaw Hearts Series: Outlaw Hearts (Book 1) Do Not Forsake Me (Book 2) Love's Sweet Revenge (Book 3) The Last Outlaw (Book 4) (less)
My Thoughts
It is hard for 62-year-old Jake Harkner to see where he fits in now that the day of swift justice meted out without fear of being brought accountable for defending oneself or ones family has passed. When he rode the outlaw trail or had to use his pistols later on to enforce the law his badge represented there was little to no outcry by pretty much anyone.
The man’s fondest wish in his latter years has been to live in peace with his wife and their growing family. A peaceful existence for Jake however just continues to elude him as trouble keeps rearing its ugly head, and this time it not only threatens his life but the now fragile sanity of his wife and that of his grown children as well.
As hard as it has been to accept that perhaps Jakes mission will end in his drawing a final breath, Randy gives him her reluctant blessing since she knows deep in her heart her man cannot ever say no when a female is in danger and so once again she resigns herself to waiting for him to return.
Be still my heart, this was an epic ending to the Harkner family saga and am very glad that it got a chance to be written and shared with fans of the series and new readers just getting to know Jake and his wonderful circle of family members plus their excellent friends as well.
Regardless of the time period, which was way before any kind of electronic gadgets or even indoor plumbing were staples of every household, this historical western spanning over 30+ years will suck you in easily and if you are not careful may never let you go even when the last page is read. The story and its characters are that powerfully moving, plus the romances are absolutely addictive to watch unfold. Especially that of Jake and Miranda, Randy, Harkner as they are the linchpin couple whose tale is at the heart of every book.
What I loved was how the entire book built toward such an emotional ending with a satisfactorily fulfilling conclusion to the many story threads. One thing I will advise be prepared for even more tears shed on Jake and Randy's behalf, their travails this time are truly mind-blowing.
If the author ever decides to revisit Jake, his children or his grandchildren some day in a spin off series or in addition to this 4th book to this series, I am in all the way as would adore to see more from the Harkner clan!
[EArc from Netgalley in exchange for honest review]
And his entire family! I have waited all year and was so excited to read this. I swear, Rosanne Bittner is the only author ever who has left me in tears. I love this family! Please hurry up with another book haha!
Readers of western historical romances usually know the name, Rosanne Bittner. She has been called the queen of this sub-genre and if you haven't tried one of her books, it's high time you did. With the final book in the Outlaw Hearts series, The Last Outlaw, Bittner brings to culmination a love story spanning over 30 years. Jake and Miranda Harkner's story has captivated readers with it's spine tingling action and epic love. Bittner once again takes readers to the heart of the Colorado ranch country and into the lives of a family in crisis. The era of the gunslinger is ending and Jake is struggling to find his place in this new world, while his wife Miranda claws her way back from a devastating attack. Strap in tight readers, this story is far from over!
What I liked:
Though I have not reviewed any of the other books in the Outlaw Hearts series, I have read them. Rosanne Bittner is a favorite of mine in the western historical sub-genre. This series has been such a wonderful glimpse into the west through the eyes of one family. The Harkner's are the epitome of the ranching family. They've worked hard to get where they are and the patriarch of the family, Jake has been pivotal. It is not often a romance writer uses a hero and heroine in their autumn years. Jake is over 60 in this book, but still very vibrant and alive. While Miranda is ten years younger, she is represents the strong western spirit and tenacity. I liked the fact that Bittner did not shy away from that in order to capture a younger audience. This love was epic and it required an epic ending. Bittner did not disappoint.
Jake, like many a man has a past. He struggles with that and it haunts him to an extent. Self worth issues are something many of us can relate to. Now, times are a changing and Jake must change and adapt to a new way of life, where he can't use his guns to solve his problems. The politics and climate of the west is becoming tamer and he must figure out his place. Bittner did a wonderful job of showing a man who has fought for his place and loathes to see it slipping away. From an outlaw to a marshal to a rancher, but what will he become now?
At the end of the previous book, Miranda suffers a heartbreaking attack that leaves her devastated. Her recovery is long and arduous. She is clearly suffering from PTSD and it will break the heart of the reader to see this once strong and passionate woman reduced to shreds. But in true Bittner fashion, Miranda will come out stronger than before and watching her rebuild her foundation was amazing. I loved this part of the story because it showed courage and faith and how family makes all the difference.
What I didn't like:
Like many western historical's you only have a certain amount of content to work with. I struggled a little with finding some elements of the story a little to repetitious. Things I had seen before or tropes already used. But not surprisingly Bittner always seems to turn it into something that takes unexpected twists and turns that captivate and keep the reader glued to the pages.
Bottom Line:
This was a great ending to a wonderful series. Rosanne Bittner knows how to write a good western romance. Though somewhat repetitious in idea, the execution was unique. Bittner gives reader a older hero and heroine that should be done way more often than it is. She tackles themes like self worth and inner demons like a pro and handles PTSD with kid gloves. This an author you really need to try. Not a book I would recommend to be read out of order, but that's okay, this entire series should not be missed.
Deep breath - wow!! What a story! The Last Outlaw stole my breath and wrecked my heart and mended it all and gifted it back to me better than before. This definitely is an intense, emotional, but yet beautiful and satisfying read.
Jake and Randy have been through so much, and this shows just how deep and strong their love for each other are, and how a deeply devoted relationship can carry the other through the toughest of situations. Jake has gown and changed for the better in his older years, and was finally able to find a way to defeat the demons that have been chasing him his whole life. Randy also was able to recover from the events of book 3 and become the strong matriarch of the family she was destined to become.
I'm just simply overwhelmed with this story - from the highs and lows, the sweet soft moments to the intensely terrifying ones, from the laugh-and-shake-my-head to the swoony-melt-my-heart moments - this book delivers it all! From the first pages of Outlaw Hearts to the last pages of The Last Outlaw - Jake Harkner and his Randy and their family will embed themselves deep within your heart and you will refuse to let them go.
I'm very much looking forward to one of the final glimpses into the Harkner's lives with the Christmas Story that's coming out soon! Jake and his sweet Sadie Mae?? I'm ready! haha!
Jake Harkner IS the last outlaw. The West is changing; it's the time of the wild West becoming more tame. In this new era, Jake is a rough, tough man who hates the change and wants to do it his way by slinging a gun and fighting for who he loves and believes in. He and his wife Randy are a beautiful couple that show the definition of unconditional love. Rosanne Bittner has some of the best western, historical romance books ever. The Last Outlaw is the fourth of the series, "Outlaw Hearts". This book is a wonderful narrative that lets you meet the characters, really get to know them and follow them through their life. Ms. Bittner has a knack for developing her characters and stories so that they become your friend, and feel all of their pain, love, and courage throughout the book. If you love western historical romance, you've got to try this book!
The Last Outlaw by Rosanne Bittner will be available September 5, 2017 by Sourcebooks Casablanca. An egalley of this book was made available by the author in exchange for a honest review.
This was borderline depressing for more than the first half of the book. Jake kept talking about how he was going to die, how he didn't fit in with the new society that was evolving, and well, he was just in a dark place. I felt his weariness of his past always catching up with him and wreaking havoc with his family, but was it a premonition?
It isn't until Part Five of the novel that the real grit comes into play. Jake and one of the ranch hands, Cole, go to Mexico to save a 15-year-old girl who was lured by a Mexican man with the promise of wealth and marriage in Mexico, only to end up in a high-end brothel where virgins were sold for a premium. Jake did it as a favor to Gretta McBain, a prostitute in Denver, with whom he had become good friends. The girl was her daughter whom she'd given up for adoption to a couple who lived in Denver, as well. Gretta never made herself known to the girl, but watched her from afar. But when the adoptive mother told her what had happened to Annie, Gretta knew she had to do something to get her back and her only option was Jake Harkner.
I don't want to say much more about this. As it is, I had to really think about what to say in this review, as to not give anything away. Suffice it to say, I cried like a baby.
In the Author's Notes, Ms. Bittner said it was quite possibly the last book in the series, but you never know. I would've been okay with it being the end of the series, but there are two more books after this one. I started Blaze of Glory (Book 5). I guess I'll find out what happens next.
I fell in love with Jake Harkner the first time I read Outlaw Hearts back in the mid 1990's. He is such a contradiction - the gentle, loving, family man, who is also a ruthless outlaw who doesn't hesitate to kill a man in cold blood for hurting one of Jake's family members. I also really admired Miranda Harkner's strength of character and complete devotion to her husband. However, in this book, Miranda's character starts out as a weak, needy woman who doesn't want Jake out of her sight. I know the reasons why she has had a complete mental breakdown, but I have to say, I am not so much of a fan of hers in this book, and I think the complete turnaround is why.
I'm giving the book 4 stars because of the changes in Randy. I also noticed some editing problems, like the name of Jake's horse changing from Midnight in the previous book to Outlaw in this book, when this book said it was the same horse who survived the barn fire in the previous book. There were also some discrepancies in things that were explained differently than in previous books, such as the "official" reason Jake's mother and little brother were no longer around. In this book it said they had run off, but in the first book, they died of cholera.
I still appreciate the author's skill in telling a captivating story with incredibly complex characters. I highly recommend "The Last Outlaw" but to get the total impact of the story, it needs to be read after the other three books in the series.
I have come to have a love hate relationship with Mr. Harkner. This bad to the bone, man with his troubled pass, is showing more and more of feeling and love. I do not think he should do most of what he does, but this book, really had me scratching my head, thinking and shouting, at the characters Why oh Why did you do that. I ended up with mixed emotions after getting done with the book, wondering will this wonderful author whom I have become to enjoy will give us a new book, picking up where this one left off. I feel Jake and Randy are not done, the west has not seen the last of the infamous outlaw who is set in his old ways of doing things. I did not like some of the parts of the book, that were written where i felt the author went in to too much detail and others where the author didn't give enough detail. im not going to ruin the book by giving bits and pieces away, but I do hope another book is in the works one that will truly be the final book of jake and randy. If you have not read the others in this series go back and read the first book to really now what is going on before reading this.
*Read for the Native American Heritage Month prompt of Romanceopoly(a book by an indiginous author).*
Oh wow, this was intense. The Harkners have become one of my very favorite book families ever, and in here we see them tested in some very different ways. Starting out, Jake had to do something he never could've done before, and that was being Randy's emotional support after the events of the third book. From there, we follow the family through a course of events that takes Jake all the way back to where his worst memories happened, and on into Mexico to save a girl who'd been stolen away. And for the last few chapters, not knowing whether Jake was actually alive or not, we see the family all come together. This book was very easy for me to read, and I found it very unputdownable, but with the holiday I didn't read it as quickly as I would have liked. Still, this was an intense, emotional story full of action, family, and a romance unlike anything I've ever read.
The Outlaw Hearts saga continues with a decade’s long love affair with Jake Harkner and his wife Randy. The world they know is changing, civilization is taming the Wild West. In this book Jake and Randy’s saga continues with an intense guns a-blazing opening they’ve have seen it all, survived it all, and once again will be tested in the most harrowing ways. Jake has sworn to give up is gun as he and Randy are enjoying some peace for one in their lives. Their quite life is quite disturbed when Jake can’t refuse to go on a rescue mission leaving his family and traveling into Mexico to rescue a young girl. I love these characters and I’m immensely thrilled to read more of this enthralling family sagas and their passionate romance. I voluntarily read this ARC copy from Net Galley and this is my honest review and opinions.
I have now read all 4 books of this series, the first 3 twice. I just finished The Last Outlaw last night and when I got to what happened to Jake in Mexico, I was jut sobbing and so mad at the author for letting this happen to Jake. I have fallen in love with Jake and Randy Harkner through this entire series plus all their family. I was thinking that I could not believe this author was going to kill Jake at the end of this book. BUT what an ending! It was absolutely the best ending she could have had. I love these books and I will never forget this family. I know they are not real, just characters in a book, but I have learned so much from them. Thank you Rosanne Bittner for the BEST series I have ever read. I will look forward to any future books you write about the Harkner family.

I've been reading this series in order and I have loved every single book. I fell in love with Jake Hartner from the first chapter. I have been completely enthralled and unable to put down these books from beginning to end. I want to be part of this family - part of their lives!
The Last Outlaw was written as the end of the saga, but I am so happy Rosanne has graced us with one more book for Jake and Randy Hartner and the family. I am off now to immediately start the next book, and I certainly hope Rosanne is working on another saga with some of Jake and Randy's wonderful grandchildren, especially Little Jake/just Jake!
I love reading the stories about the Harkners & the love they share. I am sad to think other than a short Christmas story, this is the last of their story. It shows all the challenges this family goes through for & with each other. How they band together to make the family even stronger. just when you think one of them will not last much longer, they come back stronger with the help of the families love & faith. I have read Rosanne's works a long time & this is a great series. I can't wait to see what she does next.
Just when Jake and Randy start to get their lives back on track, something else happens to tear them apart again! Jake can't say no when a friend asks him to go on a mission. But this one is different, it will cause him to examine where he came from and go back to where it all started. Can you make it out alive both mentally and physically to get back to Randy and their family?
OMG!! This story just tore at my heart strings!! Just as things start to look good, everything goes south again...If you haven't read this series, you need to!! It is a must read for any historical romance lover!
I hope one day there will be another story of this wonderful family. The first book was kinda slow and all over the place but all the other books that followed were so wonderful. I'm in love with Jake, wish men like him still existed. I pray to see future books about the Harkners. Lloyd, Little Jake, Ben. So many stories left to be told. Be sure to have tissues, I shed so many tears during this book.
These books are right up there with my very favorites! I laughed and I cried and enjoyed. I could hardly put them down, waiting with bated breath to read the next chapter of this absolutely wonderful story. Well written, characters developed beautifully, I hated finishing the fourth book, because it was so engrossing. GOOD JOB, ROSANNE BITTNER. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'll check out what else you created for my pleasure. ♡♡♡
The entire series was awesome. I loved seeing Jake and Randy love for each other. I love how the family and side characters were incorporated without taking away from their love story. It supported. The ending was very emotional. It had me crying. I loved this family and would love to hear from them again.
This series has been a joy to read. It has all of the elements for the reader that likes to laugh, cry, and wants to read the next book. I love romance, and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. This author has storytelling down to an art. I can’t wait to read the next chapter in this character and his family.
