Bad Boy Rebels #1

Discovering Zhara: Kissing Benton

Rate this book
My name is Zhara and my life is complicated. I’ve spent the last couple of years pretending to be a good girl, like my mother wanted me to be. But just once, I want to have some fun, go to parties, maybe even get my first kiss. So when my friend Taylor says she’s going to Benton’s graduation party, I decide to go, even though I’ve never been much of a party girl.

But what starts out as a fun night ends with me getting locked in the bathroom. With Benton.

Benton has a reputation for being a bad boy. But I think he might have a sweet side too. Maybe that’s why when he offers to give me my first kiss, I take a chance and let him.

The kiss is perfect and sweet. At least that’s what I think until Benton has me pretend to be his girlfriend in front of two very sketchy looking guys. He also wants a favor from me. Well, the favor isn’t just for him, but also for his five friends, known as the Bad Boy Rebels.

All the guys are as hot as Benton and just as much trouble.

So much for being a good girl…

The Bad Boy Rebels series is a novella series that follows Zhara and six guys who are part of a secret detective program. It contains a lot of kissing, steamy scenes, with a bit of suspense, and mystery.

Is this a rough draft?

Didn't know this was going to be a serialized novel. Nobody likes those. You might as well just read something from Wattpad while the person is still writing it; at least that's free the whole way through; and you can make comments and point out mistakes like how this girl, Zhara, was trying to stay out of the SUN at NIGHT? because its so hot...Maybe I missed something. Ms Sorenson can do better, I know that for a fact. It helps to keep to one project/book at a time. Finish one, then publish it, THEN on to the next. I dont like being this critical, or grammatically incorrect, lol, but here we are, I would like to see Ms Sorenson get back to being the great author she was in the beginning.

Not sure what to think or even say.

Ok first of all I don't think this is even worth the .99¢ I paid. I wouldn't even call it a little novella, it's more like reading a preview and that's it. The. What I did read wasn't bad but then bamb that's it before it even starts at all. Why even write something this small and not just write a whole full book. I didn't realize it was going to barely be anything, and would of liked if it was just a full book to enjoy. I just purchased it and read it in less than an hour. I like Jessica's books but feel like they have become more and more to short, and you have to read a little at a time when it all could of just been one book. Not to mention when you do read whatever it is, you than have to wait forever just to read the rest when it finally comes out if ever. Again I like Jessica's books I just wish they weren't little bits at a time. I guess it's my fault for not paying attention to the title/ novella description. Please just write a full book.

Wanting something quick to read, I scrolled through my kindle and came to Discovering Zhara: Kissing Benton by Jessica Sorensen whom is an author I quite enjoy. A while back, I read a book about a girl named Alexis who was trying to find her place in the world along with her siblings after their parents died. Alexis is Zhara's twin sister. Zhara is the "good girl" of her family, but wanting to break out of the mould. The day her parents died, she told her mum she was sick of being perfect and now that conversation has haunted her. In this book, Zhara’s friend Taylor talks her into going to a party with her, the party is held at Benton's house. He is someone Zhara has had a crush on but is considered unattainable, he is part of a group of guys called "Bad Boy Rebels". When the girls show up, Benton refuses Zhara entrance to his party as he writes her off as a narc due to her Miss Perfect/Good Girl status. She stands up to him and he decides to give her a chance. Meanwhile at the party, Zhara realises she is out of her element and ends up in the bathroom. One thing leads to another and Benton joins her, they chat and make a bucket list including a first kiss. Soon actual bad guys turn up and Zhara takes the role of Benton's girlfriend, what has she got herself into and who really are the Bad Boy Rebels? Find out in this quick read novella "Discovering Zhara: Kissing Benton" by Jessica Sorensen today. Besides the high school party scene, this book is quite a clean teen read.

Discovering Zhara is a wonderful little novella from Jessica Sorensen. It's very short, so it's better if you can get it through KU. It's episodic; this one is basically one scene, a little backstory, and a bit of foreshadowing into what will be the main storyline.

Zhara has just graduated; a good girl, wracked by guilt, not allowing herself to even thnk about what she wants in life. Benton appears to be the stereotypical party-boy, bad-guy. There's so much more going on here. Zhara decides to attend her first party (Benton's). The book takes place completely at the party. So much takes place with so few words. So many emotions over a couple of hours.

This novella is so good, so frustrating. No one does episodic writing better than Jessica. I plan to read the next installment over lunch today. I hope they keep coming out quickly. My patience is not good when it comes to serials!

This book was really good. Especially if you’re looking for something short and easy to read. I read this one and the next two in an hour. Super fast, super easy. It’s really good though. Not much happens in this first book but enough does too hook you and want to read the next one. This book was really good!

Very short but enjoyable. It's so easy to read that the language and slight ridiculous-ness of the plot didn't put me off.

Wow this book really catches you from the start. Benton actually seems really cool once he stops being a dick to Zahara. Can't wait to see what happens in book 2.

These are quick reads but I'm really enjoying them. I like Jessica Sorensons work and these have been no exception. Zhara is stepping out and learning what makes her tick. I'm interested to meet all the guys and learn about them.

Title: Discovering Zhara: Kissing Benton
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Series: Bad Boy Rebels, #1
Rating: 4 Stars
“Maybe it's easier to show someone you don't know who you truly are because they don't have such high, set-in-permanent-ink expectations.”

This was the first novella in the series and since it was a novella, it was really short but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Zhara is your average girl-next-door. Never going to parties and getting good grades, never really so much as swearing, Zhara's what you would call a 'good girl', but on the inside, she's lost and doesn't really know what she wants, and the good girl act is becoming too monotonous for her. Add being haunted by the guilt of her past to the mix, and you see that the heroine isn't as cliché and boring as it might seem.
“You're fine. You're always fine. Suck it up and put on a smile.”

When Benton was introduced, I have to say I didn't have much time to mull over his behavior towards Zhara as he quickly switched sides and was more than friendly towards her, and so I liked him almost instantly.

Overall, the novella was only a short introduction to the story and I read it in one sitting. The writing was good besides a few grammatical errors, and I'll definitely be picking up the second book in the series.

Disappointed

I was obviously expecting a full length story, however this is literally a small teaser that leaves you feeling disappointed. Level of writing is ok, but the book does look like it will be good when complete.

Great beginning

This is a great start to a new series. You've got the good girl trying to figure herself out. And ten there's the bad boy. Can't wait to see what happens next.

It would have been great, but the author kept re-writing the story after publishing it. Then she just flat out abandoned the series. There is no resolution because the story just cuts off with no explanation.
