Nicole McLaren Campbell is a Princeton educated entrepreneur and professional speaker who lives with her husband and young children in Kingston, Jamaica. "By sharing personal stories and examples of how I work through obstacles in my life, I hope to show you that you can do the same. From this book I want you to see, or be reminded (in the same way I have) that successful people aren’t born that way, and with the right toolkit we can all do what successful people do, and find our own success. I’ve long felt the calling to become an author, and I see myself reaching millions of people through text. Writing a book has felt, and still feels, so intimidating ... so I started the way I recommend you start on a goal that feels too huge - with a first step. Welcome to my first ebook – a short set of tips in 5 key areas – the 5 areas are ones that I believe must be mastered if you hope to unlock your vision and maximize your Fear, Having the Courage to Ask for What You Want, Procrastination, Tuning into Your Purpose and Staying Motivated. By showing you how I keep moving in spite of, and often beyond, the most common obstacles that lead us to stand in our own way, I hope that you feel empowered to keep moving!"
The plan was to read this little by little...but (being honest with myself)...that really wasn't going to happen with a 50page book. What makes this book different to other self-help texts is the fact that it was easy to read, short and to the point. There are some good suggestions of simple step to help you 'get your life together' and quite a few nuggets of positive affirmations for self. I'll admit, I hoped for a few more activities to get the ball rolling with 'unlocking my vision', but I'm thinking Nicole addresses that in a more hands-on way in her master class. All in all a good read that is perfectly written to meet high school reading level (making it good for teens) especially if you need a pick up on the journey to achieving your best self (like I did in my quest to finish my research paper).
I bought this book because I had bought Thrive or Survive first and my conscience would not allow me to read the second before the first. So me go so braps 😁😁😁... I dont know why I have not read this from it just came out but it's never too late. As I read I was so excited to share passages on my social media. There were so many points that was just too relatable. I read I shared and all in all it left me saying that it's not expensive to purchase, but when you do purchase you realise that you really could not have paid for such a wealth of knowledge. One of the best book you will ever buy, ever read. Now on to book #2.
Wow! As a yearly ritual I plan and set goals for the year. As part of this process I plan to read this book I follow Nicole on Instagram and she inspires me. So I completed the book as planned and best idea ever. It spoke to me as I plan on moving into my purpose but feeling so alone and fearful. Reading the book has provided me with steps I can take to make this happen. Although not things I didn't know but Nicole summarized it so neatly , logically and in a more conversational type manner I enjoyed. Than you Nicole I will recommend.
I've followed Nicole for some time but it took me a while to read this because I questioned how much this short book could really give me...it defined quality over quantity! Having seen her going from strength to strength in her life, sharing the goods and bads, reading this felt like a friend giving you lived advice on how to be the best you - it was so real and relatable! Can't wait to read her 2nd book and go on more of her courses!
It was like holding up a mirror to my shortcomings and immediately seeing a path to redemption. I wanted there to be more yet it was enough to get me started. I'm working on a to do list for today. I haven't narrowed down my goals yet but I will make the time to do it today. Make it count spurred me to action.
I had to get this book because I really love Nicole and everything she stands for. She's really an inspiration and I'm glad that she took the time to write this book. It was an easy read that sparked motivation for me,
Quick and easy read! I enjoyed all of her tips because I identified with most of she discussed. If you’re looking for something really deep this isn’t it but if your looking for an enjoyable quick read this is definitely it!!
The language is simple and straightforward and Nicole gets directly to the point. As a young adult, it is books like these that helps to shape my views of my best self.
Thanks Nicole for taking the time to help people like me.
Really sets you straight on how to go exit achieving your goals, step by step principles and things never thought of which could be blocking you. Love it. Awesome read
M review might be biased because I love Nicole but her book is exactly what an expected. Straight to the point and full of gems. Unlocking my vision should be a little bit easier with these chapters.
It was a simple but effective read. It's a book to revisit whenever you need reminders of what you're capable of and motivation. I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.
Practical Tips and Advice on Taking Charge of Your Life
An easy read with practical tips and advice on how to take charge of your life, from your mindset to your habits.
I read this book in less than 2 hours and it was a great reminder to take action in areas my life I felt fearful about - such as having the courage to ask. I especially liked that Nicole shared her own challenges in tackling fears and how she overcame them through visualization, prayer and most importantly taking action and asking for help.
Nicole is a great example of what being motivated and taking charge looks like and I truly admire her journey.
A great read especially for teens and young adults or those who want an extra boost to keep going.
This book is concise and likely to be useful to anyone who is getting started on their goals. Some of the key words are passion, purpose, vision and goals. The author also includes quotes and the names of her own sources of inspiration, which could be a good way for the reader to compile a reading list of related works. If only it were fifty pages longer and more detailed as the reader could definitely benefit from hearing more anecdotes from the author's journey to where she is today. Yes, the advice is tried and true but good advice has more impact when one can see the principle applied to a real-life situation. In any case, this book and its author are a welcomed contribution to the sources of influence that are available to today's young people.
I think I would have loved this if it had more personal stories and examples. It's a nice, short read to give you a good burst of motivation during a low point but it needs more detail to follow as an how-to guide. Overall, it's ok.
