Please note the content warning at the end of my review.

This books is said to be “A dark exploration of sensual obsession, dominance and control. Submerge yourself in a dangerous, erotic journey of self-discovery between Master and slave.”

And to that I say, “you can say that again.”

Please keep in mind while reading my review that I’m a firm believer in the adage, ‘to each his own,’ so as far as I’m concerned, what people do, consensually, in the privacy of their own bedroom – figuratively speaking - is their business. Me? I don’t understand the need to inflict - or receive - pain for the sake of sexual arousal, but I do understand that for some people, it’s a loving, satisfying, intensely important part of their relationships. And more power to ‘em!

I’ve read some reviews of this story, both pro and con, but mine… I can’t find the words to cover all the things I think and feel about it. Emotions I experienced while reading would include incredulity, sorrow, anger, confusion, sympathy, fear, hope… just to name a few. I will say that because my emotions were so tied up in knots I didn’t find the story erotic or hot. That’s not a criticism, in fact, it’s a testament to the author’s ability to tell a tale and take me into such a dark place that all I could think about were ways to escape… and then wondering if I’d actually want to.

To say that Mark Stratton is merely an obsessed fan is being far too generous. What he is, is one f*c*ed up SOB. Even that is putting it mildly, and is another reason I couldn’t get comfortable enough to find this story erotic. Had he been a mentally stable, emotionally solid sadist, and Emily Hunter his willing masochist, I’d probably have gone through my year's supply of batteries before finishing this book!

Just sayin...

Anyway… given how intense this story is, how dark and down-right chilling, the author did a brilliant thing by ending it the way she did. And no, it didn’t turn out to be a ‘dream/nightmare’ tale, but other than that, I’ll give nothing more away.

Content Warning: This story is not romanticized BDSM. There’s kidnapping, humiliation, degradation, rape, extreme punishment and pain. Anal sex, urination, deprivation of varying sorts… I can’t even remember all the ‘tools’ Mark used to force Emily’s compliance, but needless to say, I urge caution if you’re thinking of reading this book.

Rating this story is hard because I loved it for the same reasons I hated it, and it’s all due to the author’s talent and ability to tell a tale that pushed hard against the walls of my comfort zone, and yet had me spellbound. I'm still not sure if I liked it, loved it or what. It grabbed hold and pulled me under. I struggled not knowing if I wanted to surface for air or drown in the dark. Will I read this story again? Probably not. Will I look for more by this author? Absolutely.

Into the mind of madness!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📘📗📕📙📘
World building: 🌏🌏🌍🌏
Character development: 🙂🙂🙂

The setting: New York

The Hero(s): Mark - computer programmer, Mark has spent the last two years stalking his favorite actress and building a home in the country, complete with a fully supplied BDSM dungeon. He will work from home in the country house once he has Alana.

The heroine(s): Alana - successful movie actress and celebrity. Alana has no idea Mark exists until he kidnaps her at gunpoint.

The Love Story: Mark kidnaps Alana in New York and brings her to his country home where he makes her his slave.

After reading the warnings and some other reviews, I knew this book would be disturbing but I didn’t expect it to be so creepy from the very start. It was obvious Mark was not only disturbed but truly psychotic and absolutely cra-cra (*see my finger pointing at the side of my head and moving in circles). He was pretty much what you think a celebrity stalker would be, delving into every aspect of her life.

Mark had a relationship with Alana which was all in his mind. He knew her exact schedule, where she would be every moment of the day, her address, he researched every member of her family and knew their addresses and where each of them worked and much more. Though he was good looking, he was nuts in a way that was far from attractive.

However, I thought I knew how this one would go since I had skimmed over some of the reviews and saw trigger warnings for non-con and all sorts of extreme BDSM. I thought it would be one of those dark books where the Hero and the heroine loved all kinds of kinky D/s play. But this was much different than I thought. It was a study in sexual torture and mind control.

The story definitely had some heavy Stockholm Syndrome aspects, but I liked the way it was in Dual POV and in Alana’s mind you could see that she was doing whatever she had to do to survive and not get constantly punished severely. While Mark was perpetually thinking of more evil things he could do to punish her for the slightest of infractions. He conditioned her to attribute pain and sex together and she forgot what life was like before she was his slave.

I thought the ending was a bit odd. I had been wanting Alana to be found or to escape, at the very least for her to realize what was happening in her mind and whey she was feeling the way she felt about Mark. I was glad to be vindicated later when she thought the following:
She was like those hostages who became unnaturally attached to their captors. She might think she wanted to stay, but it was fear and conditioning, not love, that motivated her behavior.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Extremely dark non-con

I think Claire Thompson may well be the queen of non-con erotica and this was one of her earlier ones, dug up and tidied up with her experienced hand and rereleased. It actually reminds me quite a lot of one of her later novels, Enslaved, but I thought this was better.

Mark is one sick and totally fucked up individual. He is completely fixated on Emily, a movie star, believes he is her no. 1 fan, believes himself in love with her and strongly believes that her future is with him, away from her glitzy life and he also believes that she will come to realise this and love him back.

So, after 2 years of scrutinising her routine and some meticulous planning on his part, he is able to abduct her at gun point and take her to his isolated country house. There, he subjects her to a darkly erotic cornucopia of rape, sodomy, bondage, domination, beatings, fornophilia, degradation, humiliation, pee play, piercing and branding to mention just a few. Emily is terrified to begin with but, with daily punishment and humiliation, she soon settles into graceful submission and obedience. She soon finds herself craving Mark’s touch, fearing his punishment and develops an overwhelming desire to please him and to avoid punishment.

Mark is satisfied to begin with that he has Emily exactly where he wants her and has everything he could ever have hoped for but slowly begins to realise her submission has been gained out of fear and he becomes angry that she doesn’t love him in return and punishes her severely for this.

So, this is a very, VERY dark story bravely told by Clare Thompson – you have to be open to the darkest side of BDSM to be able to tolerate reading this and there’s a definite skill in the writing that manages to twist your mind and turn something so very terrible into something actually quite erotic. I hated Mark for at least the first 50% of the novel – he seemed so deluded and everything he does to Emily is wrong on every level and yet there’s some serious mindf*ckery at work here as I slowly started to have some feeling for him. Sympathy is much too strong a word but I did, to my absolute horror, start to warm slightly towards him.

At this point, in a traditional contemporary romance, an alpha hero would have burst in on the scene and risked his life to save Emily but this sure as hell isn't traditional contemporary romance and all that remains is Mark, a gamma hero at best.

I’m not going to give away the ending, but I thought this was very clever writing and I can’t stress strongly enough that this book contains page after page of non-consensual and extreme sex and bondage and domination and you really need to be prepared for this before you read it. If this is not your bag, do yourself a favour, and don’t even start it.

I feel the need to review this book just because it did something really amazing. It took a genre I don't generally like--non-consensual BDSM-- and made me like it. It also made some of the things that used to turn me off, like hard pain and watersports, seem hot. I think it's because she gives some hints at the psychology behind it.

I can't say this book is realistic, and it is most CERTAINLY not for the easily offended or faint of heart BDSM-wise, but I will say that this author has some skill to take topics and genres that are a hard sell and make them palatable to a reader like me. She also managed to turn a guy who is a real psycho villain in the beginning into a sympathetic character by the end. I always admire authors who take that chance--who present us with a hero who is not perfect and perhaps even seriously flawed, and shows us an arc to redemption, or at least steps in that direction. Very interesting and brave writing. if you can read with an open mind and you can handle hardcore BDSM, give this one a try.

This was a deliciously dark read, one where I was very quickly hooked into the story. It isn't a romance by any stretch of the imagination, though there are definitely emotions involved, strong and believable ones too. For Alana those feelings are the result of Stockholm syndrome and brainwashing - or whatever the kink equivalent is of making the body and soul crave domination. I'm not quite sure how Claire Thompson achieved it, but I went from wanting Mark to be impaled on a rusty pitchfork, to needing him to find his HEA.

There were hints of Comfort Food, by Kitty Thomas, about this, though I am in no way suggesting it is copied from this one (which was released first). They both deal with similar themes but are definitely their own book and story. Despite this not delving deeply into how Mark "broke" Alana down, at least not in "real time" scenes, there were subtle hints, nudges and clues that worked together to convince me of the outcomes.

Those final chapters were heart breaking at times, so full of emotion and so poignant and beautifully written. And I simply loved the possibilities of that ending!

No lover before Mark had ever tapped into her latent submissive sexuality or been able to release her fierce passion. Despite what he'd done to her, or perhaps partially because of it, she felt more alive in his arms than at any other time. The thought she would never see him again ... she shook her head. This was insane. She was still brainwashed. It would fade as she reentered "the real world".

Obsession,Girl Abducted by Claire Thompson is one of those stories that makes you question your sanity.
Why? Because it’s clearly a non-con with a heavy dose of Stockholm Syndrome.
And at the same time,it has you firmly in its clutches.
Uncomfortably aroused,to be precise.

Mark may have been a fan of Alana, but going as far as abducting her,and forcing her go do things she never would’ve done given the choice?
Taking it further again as soon as she did what he wanted?
Degrading her, using her? Setting her up to fail with impossible orders, and punishing her for it?
If that’s how he “loved” her,i don’t think i’d want to be loved!
His idea of her EVER loving him back is....crazy,if i’m honest.
I mean, how can she? After all that he’s done to her?

At the end,at the very last page,i’m still not sure how to feel.
This was a story that made me uncomfortable with the life Mark forced Alana to live.
And it was also a story that made me wonder what choices Alana would’ve made in the end if they were HERS to make.

It was however,a story i am glad i received the ARC of.
And i ám glad it was told in a dual POV,showing the thoughts of both.
Of their feelings as they went further down that rabbithole.
So,thank you Claire for taking me on this crazy ride!

Ok, I have 5 stared Claire Thompson but this book and I did not get along. I waited for the female MC to die from shock, dehydration or suffocation by penis the entire time. The fact that she said maybe 12 complete sentences the entire book I had really no attachment to her, except pity. The male MC was nucking Futz. If you need any fetish, BDSM playroom equipment demonstration, or long torture scenes this book might be for you. Forced Submission was the entire book.

This was a very well written dark romance, reminiscent of Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas, though Obsession is far more explicit and far more romantic. Both these stories deal with the psychological aspect of captivity, which I find endlessly fascinating.

What I'm saying here, is that you're not going to get brainless smut with no depth to the story in either of these novels. They make you think a little bit (though I'll admit, Comfort Food is superior to this novel.)

There was however, too much sexual content sometimes. I would have loved if the main characters had more conversations with one another and were a little bit more well developed beyond their sexual desires.

I also wish the male lead was less... hysterical? Sometimes it seemed like he was ruled by his own emotions and that's not really what I like in an Alpha.

The abrupt ending was a bit unsettling, as well. I don't really care for it, but the rest of the novel was so engrossing that I'll give it a pass.

If you're looking for a well written captor/captive story, I do recommend this book, despite my complaints. It's short but not unintelligent. And Claire Thompson made me root for these messed up characters. I wanted them to get their happy ending.

Shew...what a read!! A non stop read in fact. I probably shouldn't have done that. Eight hours later and I think I only just got my heart rate under control again.
This is a very dark hardcore read involving abduction, rape and torture. The scenes are continuous and very explicit.

At some point I should have put it down to breathe but I couldn't. I didn't want to leave it alone for a second. I thought if she can endure this then so can I. Then I find myself questioning the fact that I am actually reading this type of book. What the hell am I doing? I don't have to carry on, but I do!
The writing is compelling and you get sucked into this depraved diabolical world where nothing but pain and pleasure collide. What fascinated me through it all was the mind set of these characters. The reasoning behind it all, for it all. We learn that Mark is an unsatisfied Dominant who feels he can only achieve happiness by forcing his will and depravity. I absolutely hated him. He was a true sadistic. He rapes her body and soul and steals who she is in every way!

This was not an easy read. But I am glad I read it.
I liked it...I think, but certainly not loved it. How could I? even saying that I cannot justify rating the book low when I knew what it was going into it. That wouldn't be fair to the author. I was warned, I'm a big girl and can handle the brutality.
I rate this 3 stars as I would have liked to have discovered more behind the characters. I wanted to get into the dynamic of this relationship and dissect it. I felt I didn't have enough to do that. Perhaps an epilogue would have helped me to resolve some of my own feelings.
That said, I will be reading more by this author.

It's a shame I have to go to the dirty cellar that is non-consent erotica to find D/s with actual degradation and S/M with real pain and beatings, but I guess I should be glad I can find it at all.

This one had the whole shebang: humiliation, forniphilia, piss play, whips, canes, suspension, piercing, branding, rape, sodomy, and a cage in a dark closet. The emotion didn't blow my hair back or anything, but the characterization and phychology behind the characters' actions and reactions was above average. Thompson does well at showing us a believable dynamic, even if it's not a terribly healthy one.

Not a romance, by any means, but good erotic fiction that pulls no punches.

Why would it end like that??????

I am so mad! For a stand alone read this book has the biggest cliff hanger ending i have ever endured. Yes i know Emily's decision but what about what happens when she makes that call. What will be going through Mark's head?? Ugh now i will never know.

As a whole the story was alright. The saving grace is definitely the story line minus the sex and training. Sometimes there seemed to be too much sex. Too many punishments all at once. I found myself just rushing through the later scenes just to get back to the true story.

Mark was definitely of his rocker. There is no other way to put it. He wanted something he would have to take in order to have and he actually did it. Emily was not much of a factor in the book until the end. She resisted for a while but just like any other slave, she submitted to lessen the torture.

I wish i would have been able to get more from Emily in the beginning. I was getting so mad because i didn't know what she was feeling and i couldn't connect to her in any kind of way. By only using the view of Mark i get lost in his deranged way of thinking. I feel the power he has over her. But we missed the important trails in their relationship. We know the moment Emily stopped thinking of him as her kidnapper but by the time we register that it happened all that time ago it has lost its depth. It no longer has the emotion it would had held during the transition.

I could keep going on and on about this book but i will stop my rant now. My only hope it that the next time this book is expanded that an epilogue is added or at least another chapter because the ending sucked! It disappointed me to the point where i wanted to throw my phone. Give me more!!! Please!

This book is not for those with faint hearts or restrictive imagination. It is one of the wildest Thompson’s book I have ever read. The writings are clear yet aggressive, hardcore and graphically seducing. The intertwined lives of Mark and Emily transcends to a euphoric state of sexual and extreme obsessions; leading to an intensive power chase. The contents are dark and extreme;a wild ride with lasting after effects.

Though I enjoyed this book immensely I will be the first to state that it isn't for everyone. There were times that it was actually hard to continue reading. If you aren't familiar with the BDSM lifestyle you may not 'get it.'
As does the lifestyle--this book emotes raw feelings. There is a depth to the characters and the connection that they form that goes far beyond 'love.'
It took me an hour after reading this to wrap my brain around it and a day to do this review. The author succeeded in capturing the intensity of the connection between a Master and a slave--and for that she deserves to be commended.
She wrote the true essence of the lifestyle and not a glossed over version of it, and that takes courage.
I will definitely be reading more of her work.

Wow! What a story. It's really hard to give this story a review. I just finished it and don't know how to feel about it. After all the humiliation he put her through....Would I be crazy if I said that I was glad that she chose to call him and stay? He clearly loved her in a crazy, obsessive way. I even felt something for him myself, CRAZY I know. But it came naturally even after everything. I don't think that just anyone can read this story, but I still recommend it. And actually, I now know exactly how I feel! I LOVED IT!!!!

From the reviews I expected something darker and more twisted, but to be honest 50 shades was a lot harder to read than this one. Yes, Emily was abducted, but it didn't feel like she was a victim, it was more like she found out she was submissive and he trained her for it. And that she is more happy with him and living this type of life in comparison with the one she lived before she met him - the busy schedule, the media and having no life outside the movie set.

The writing style was very good and the book is very hard to put down, I read it in one sitting.

There are triggers.
She definitely went through some torture. All that pain and being afraid of what will come next. It was a decent book. I never expected Mark to be so vile. After all that ‘conditioning’ who can blame Alana for her actions. This book is definitely not for everyone.

Mark is programmer who has stalked, studied and obsessed over Alana for years. It took him two years to plan for her abduction but once he has her, he will free her from the chaos and demands of her public life. He wants total control over her and promises to cherish and adore her if she gives him her absolute obedience and submission.

Alana Hunter is a busy actress and has no idea her world is going to horrifically change. Kidnapped, raped and beaten by her abductor, she is terrified.

As this abduction unfolds we are privy to both Mark and Alana's perspectives as he firmly believes he is doing all of this for love and she succumbs to Stockholm Syndrome. Teaching her to love pain and submitting to his every desire, taking over her body and mind. She only wants to escape, but finds capitulation is her only choice. Evolving and changing her through months of his 'training.'

Thompson doesn't hold back on the details or non-consensual, extreme kink as she explores what could happen if a man believes in a woman's fantasy of being abducted and raped became reality.

Twisted, dark and disturbing but I couldn't put it down.

This story includes scenes that may be difficult for some readers due to violence, abuse and sexual practices, read at your own discretion.

One declious Dark Story. Not for fainthearted. A story that about obsessive love and admiring someone for a far. Mark is crazy about Alana. I mean crazy in love with her. Knowing everything about her and following her. He one day decides to take her and make her his. Mark tames her,not hesitant to punishe her. I enjoy seeing his thoughts and process. Don't read if you don't enjoy a Dominant Master.

A dark obsession sums up this book pretty well.

A stalker abducts his obsession and plays out his darkest fantasies. It is a very intense book and Claire Thompson pulls you into the minds of Mark and Alana. The events that happen slowly but surely changes both of them. It is a provoking read with revelations you might not expect.

**Warning Extremely Dark Non-Con**

What the hell did I just read? I loved it, I hated it, and I wanted more of it.

As of late I've been exploring more of the darker non-con books and then I happened on to this one. Yeah, I wanted dark, and I wanted non-con and I got exactly that and more. This is a very hardcore dark non-con read that starts with abduction and is non-stop torture. All very explicit and aggressive. And one of the most graphically disturbing books I've read. And the best part? It was plausible and very believable.

Mark is one twisted individual, obsessed with a BDSM porn star, Emily. He's watched her for years, has all of her movies and has stalked her enough to know her daily routines, her family, friends and where they all live, and he has a plan to finally make Emily his.

Mark kidnaps Emily and takes her home where he completely breaks her down and makes her his slave. But it's the way he does things that will totally twist you up, make you think you can't read another page but at the same time you can't look away. That is exactly what this book did to me. I could not stop reading.

This book is full of degradation, humiliation, and heavy S&M to include water sports, forniphilia, bondage, rape, branding, piercing, sodomy. All manner of whips, floggers, canes, and suspension hooks. Oh my! And let's not forget the cage in the closet.

The total mind bender in all of this is how the author actually made me feel for Mark at the end. What? Really? Not only was my mind twisted up by the end of this book, but so was my heart.

This book left me wanting more. An epilogue would have been nice. A "One Year Later" type of chapter.

4.5 crazy stars

I'm stunned. I've read many books that are similar in the darker side of BDSM. I think I have a twisted mind to actually enjoy these reads. What can I say, I like books that get me all twisted up.

Well, this book was all kinds of twisted. Its one of the most graphic I have ever read. So dark and disterbing, at times I wasn't sure I could continue. I was left jaw dropped and stunned plenty of times. A few times I found my heart racing and simply couldn't form a coherent thought. That's just how crazy a read this is. That being said, I freakin loved this book. Its crazy insane, but I personally love an insane book that grips me, and grip me it did.

This book is not for anyone who can't handle the darker more gruesome side of BDSM. Its not a love story and has no HEA. In fact the end came out of no for me and left me wanting more. I recommend this book to all that enjoy this kind of read. Its dark, but so well written.

My reason for the 4.5 is only because of the ending. I felt like it just stopped. I needed atleast a tad bit more to sum it up. The point was made clear, but I still felt like it just didn't fit for me personally. But that in no way takes away from how amazing this book is.

Can I just say, whoa, that ending, just wow……. This story holds the truth to always be cautious of the quiet ones, the ones you don’t even know are there. Mark has silently, and completely, been learning everything about Alana, for 2 years. He executes his plan, then slowly and methodically makes her his. But is it enough? Apparently not!
