Robin Covington's Shadow Ranch is a H-O-T story. But reading it made me blush like crazy. I don't embarrass too easily, and I don't have a problem with explicit sex scenes. It's something totally different than that.
You see, I've known Robin Covington long before she was Robin Covington, back when she was just a super-awesome, take-no-prisoners, smart, dynamic, funny friend with whom I attended middle school and high school. Imagine reading a sex scene when you keep thinking about the fact that it is written by someone who knew you when you were more awkward than you are now! Even in my own house, as I read the story, this was me:
Luckily, there was a good story to go along with the hot scenes, so my face didn't catch on fire!!
Eli Sutherland is an artist. He hasn't been back to his family's ranch, Shadow Ranch, in some time, not since his mother was convicted of killing his father there. But when his mother dies, and he needs to escape his life in Austin, he starts thinking about moving back home. It actually may be the perfect place to work on his art. And hide.
His remaining family isn't too happy that he has returned, nor is the man he paid to run the ranch, but he doesn't care. When he meets Shep Lockwood (how hot is that name?), a sexy Texas Ranger, he's even more convinced that he's making the right decision. But will the concussion he sustains when another murder is perpetrated at the ranch make him turn tail again? Or will Shep protect him, and help him figure out who is behind the trouble?
Despite knowing Robin as long as I have, I've never read anything of hers before, and I'll admit that I was drawn in partly because of the man on the cover. (Whatever.) Robin tells a great story, one without clichés, and all embarrassment aside, she can write a pretty steamy sex scene. (This is the second full-on M/M romance I've read, and both were written by women. I know some have a problem with women authors writing M/M stories, but if they're all as talented, I see no problem!)
If I had any criticism, it's that it was too short. I'd love to see these characters in something a little longer—I can't guarantee I won't get all bashful again, but it's worth the red face. And if you like this genre, your face may be red too, just from fanning yourself!
I read this one a couple weeks ago and I'm struggling to really remember what it was about. I do know I liked it but it doesn't really stand out for me. It was an easy short read and I liked the characters.
I really love this author's writing. I wish she wrote more MM stories. I loved these MC's and I could have read a full length novel here. I would have liked to know more about Eli's ex and agent. The whole drug scenario in the end. So much potential for a great and more enhanced story here. I was just starting to get into the story to have the final chapter hit me. Editing continues to be an issue but this author writes well. I'd read more if she wrote MM.
Being betrayed by his lover and his agent, Eli decided to leave Austin and back to Shadow Ranch to attend his mother funeral and planning on staying for a while.
Staying permanently in Shadow Ranch was not what he intended to do. This place had only leave bad memories to him years ago when the tragedy happened and put her mother behind the bars. Eli had lost his mother since that day.
Eli need to distance himself from his previous life at town and trying to buy some peace at the moment.
He need a reason if he want to spend his life in this old town.
Then come Shepherd Lockwood, a sexy ranger who step in to Eli life when a stranger attacked him and put Eli life in danger.
Will Eli finally have his reason to stay?
Shadow Ranch is a hot and steamy short story with light suspense. It way too short, but I do really enjoying my time devouring it.

REVIEW
Eli has to go back to his familys ranch. Not something he wants to do after his mothers death however he has to. There is no love for him here in his hometown however. Most are bigots and Eli is gay.
After bad things start happening on the ranch Shep enters the picture. He is the Ranger and more than that he is gay.
This couple is very sexy, and I sure hope we see them again in another book. I enjoyed it. It's short but kept me interested.
Great book. Love Robins book. Now gonna finish the rest of Sutherland series. Shep and Eli are awesome. Great chemistry. Shep has seen a lot of bad and Eli has seen bad things happen to and around him. Eli comes home for his mom's funeral. He decides to stay to awhile. Some things happen and Shep is there. Such a good book. Would love to see more of these two
Well... This was hot and somewhat emotionally sad. Eli was a broken man brought back home to bury his mother. What he didn't sign up for was murder, being framed, or everything else in between. I guess a little mishap made a happy man or men... Great fast MM read.
Loved this book so much! The storyline was great. I especially fell for the characters and was rooting for them so hard. It's short, sweet with a but of mystery and murder. This was my first for this author and I'll definitely be checking more into their books!
