Grim (Reaper's Redemption Series Book 1) by Thea Atkinson is a whole new take on the Grim Reaper. The supernaturals such as Grims, Angels, and necromancers, well you won't think of them same after reading this book. A fresh look at the supers. Great fantasy, action, suspense, and intrigue all thrown together to make a book that has you fascinated from page 1 to the end. Awesome book, fresh fantasy, and can't wait to read the next one in this series!

No questions asked
So, why would an angel, even the Angel of Death, declare that the only way to get back into heaven is to murder innocents, have no friends, and turn your back on Love? Sounds more like a demon to me...and she never asks Why these sorts of actions would get her back into heaven, instead of sending her straight 'south'. If heaven is populated by murderers of innocents, count me Out! She should have asked more questions. And it made me question where the whole 'goodness and light' then went to! Oh, and just what sort of evil you would have to commit when you have to slaughter thousands to get into heaven! Meh, not one I will follow up on.

This story follows Ayla, as she sets off to save her friend in an old church. What she finds there makes her question her beliefs and what might lie in the future. Based loosely on Grim Reaper, the story is a mix of horror and fantasy.

This book was good with reapers and fallen angels and much more. I was hoping it would pull me in more than what it did but I think the characters were fun to read along with and I enjoyed meeting Alya. I felt by the end of this book I was missing that "it" part of the book that makes me "have to" read the next one in the series.

Grim provides the reader with a riveting tale from beginning to end! Practically from page one, the protgonist of the story is thrown into action. There wasn't a dull moment. I enjoyed the excitement of the story, as well as the background for the characters. The origin of the protagonist is truly unique. What she is and the powers she develops makes this story different from any other I have read before. (I won't say more, since I don't want to give anything away.) Although, I believe that my favorite thing about the heroine and her friends in this story is that none of them are perfect. They all have their flaws, and the heroine is not all-powerful. She makes mistakes and seems inherently human. I love her stubbornness and determination. I cannot wait to see how her journey progresses.
Speaking of characters, the two who intrigued me the most were Azrael and Callum. There is so much mystery surrounding Azrael and his past history with Ayla, which I am sure will be flushed out further in later books. He is one of those characters that I don't know whether to dislike or love, and that is what makes him great. Then we have Callum - oh how I loved his character. His interactions with Ayla were just perfect throughout! I won't say more beyond that other than I wish the book had been longer so that we could get more of Callum.
There were a few grammatical issues that provided minor distractions at times, as well as a section where the main character's age seems inconsistent (in chapter 2 and chapter 5), but they seem insignificant in the wake of the actual plot, which is amazing. I feel like Ayla's path has just begun, and I look forward to the next step in Ayla's story. :)

A fairy interesting fantasy read about a different version of the grim reaper. Who believes in monsters, really just bad people, right? A not to be missed book by a fantastic author or many books. Received an ARC

This book kept me pinned to the pages. It was such a fun and exilerating read. It had tons of paranormal beings in it.
While this book wasn't a steamy one, it did have plenty of action and paranormal battles, which made this book so easy to finish. I can't wait to read the second book because this book was everything I could have asked for in a Dark fantasy book. I do see this book as a dark fantasy because of the plot because it does have an element of horror to it, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this book with its new take on Grim Reapers. Ayla is an 18 year old young woman with a troubled past and a reputation which goes against her! After receiving a text from an old friend that she hasn't heard from for years, she rushes to meet her, thinking her friend must be in some kind of trouble. At the meeting place, Ayla gets more than she bargained for when a tough looking, tattoo covered man attacks her and tries to burn the church down around her. By shear luck, she survives and someone new appears to tell her that she is more than human. She is a reaper and the only way she can return "home" is to reap or kill other supernatural beings until she has killed enough to earn her wings back!
Sarah, her long lost friend, is one of these supernatural beings and unfortunately Sarah has been casting a few spells herself, causing problems for herself, but ones which Ayla and her new friend Callum have to help solve to save Sarah's life.
I liked Ayla's character - she admitted to herself when she had acted immaturely and why, but being an inexperienced girl, both in life and in her new role, there were many questions I thought she should have asked. Maybe she will get round to these another time. I completely understood why she ran off to help Sarah based on their history, but I'm not so sure I would have gone running off after her myself! Callum was a sweet love interest - nothing much has developed there yet, but I have a feeling it will grow more throughout the series. And I loved the secrets her grandfather has been keeping about what he can do as well.
I'm looking forward to reading more about these characters and seeing the powers Ayla will possess through her reapings. She just needs a bit more guidance on how to use them all and hopefully the Angel of Death will be a bit more forthcoming in sharing his knowledge in the next one!

This book contains zero world-building, one-dimensional characters and insta-love. You have been warned.
I couldn't connect to any of the characters.
The protagonist can be defined in one word: brat.

There was no plot. There were things happening, and supernatural creatures kept popping up, but none of those things related to each other. It's like the author just threw a bunch of ideas together and forgot to actually make something out of them.
The Angel of Death: He's there alright, but does he do anything besides show up, drop some hints that he knows her better than anyone, and act like a nosy neighbor?
Reaper: Oh, just kill some people and you'll gain wings and. . . what? I have no idea.
Necromancer: She didn't once reanimate any corpses(no, bones don't count), and overall her only use was so that there were more than four people in the book.
Ayla was the single most weak-willed character ever. She let everyone else just decide things for her, while monologuing about how tough and strong and independent she was. I couldn't help being disgusted with her. And by the end of the book she acts like knowing someone supernatural and not killing them was some grand accomplishment. Please! It's not like she would be able to even incapacitate any of them with how weak and dumb she is. Seriously, the girl is attacked by a psycho and still doesn't even think of carrying a measly pocketknife <--- anyone else would've been armed as if they were going to war, or would've just plain old ran away to another state, you know, like sensible people.

It is a story about Ayla who has been raised by her grandfather after her parents sudden death. Our main character is a hard to love/hard to express feelings heroine, but with a big heart nonetheless.
One night, Ayla has received a text message from her former friend to meet her at the church but when she arrives, not only her friend is missing, but she has to save herself from a crazy man whom is tattooed from head to toes.
That is when Ayla's life gets turned upside down and the monsters that have only appeared on the television and in the books, have become real. And on the top of that, she is one of them. And it also seems that not everyone around her is as human as they claim to be.
Grim is a good book. I liked reading it before sleep after a hard day at work. It is well written, not many typos, and it wasn't confusing. The author lead the story well and it never confused me to where the story goes.

Lots to unwrap in this one. Ayla gets a text from an old friend asking to meet. She hasn't seen Sarah since she ran away from the foster home where the two of them had been living at the time. She had sent Sarah texts periodically over the years, but had never gotten a reply. When Ayla enters the abandoned church where her friend directed her, she finds a much different scenario that what she expected. Little did she know when she left her grandfather's house that night that her life was about to change in drastic ways.
I am not going to even attempt to tell you the story of what happens, as you can read it for yourself. Let's just say that Ayla is not who she thought she was, and in the story she will find that that is true of many other people in the town of Dyre. I can't wait to read on in the series because in the end of this book Ayla is left with a lot of problems and no idea what she is going to do next. Enjoy.

Ayla is told some truths about herself that she finds impossible to believe and you begin to wonder if she is going crazy or not. Ayla is an unusual main character as she is strong and idealistic yet has a fragile strength and dedication to protect that is surprising. Her only desire is to protect those whom she loves from harm. Not as easy as it seems. This is the first book in the “Reaper’s Redemption” series and I hope that in the next installments there is more clear than this one offered. This is, however, a very interesting tale that you will keep reading to find the answers to the puzzle that is “Grim”. This tale has action, drama, twists, magic, angels, shifters, and a lot of questions. So be prepared.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from Booksprout for giving my two cents. We meet teenage Ayla who lives with her grandfather after spending years in foster care after her parents death. One night she gets a text from Sarah after 4 years to meet her. She goes to thr church to only be confronted by a lunatic who wants to kill her. Unable to escape the fire or fight for her life, Alex concedes she is going to die until a piece of glass from her hand goes in her assailants throat and then intense pain on her leg. Thr next thing she knows is an old man is in front of her telling her he is the angel of death and she is the new Grim reaper and she will reap supernatural to get her wings back bc apparently she is a Fallen. Then the fire returns and she is rescued by a firefighter who makes her girlie show. More unusual things start to occur, she also hears from Sarah and bad things go bump in the night.

Hmm what to sayyy... I loved it. A little short in my opinion. I wanted to know what happened to the characters in the beginning that caused them to be shy of people or anti-social. WHAT HAPPENED, I need to know... please♡
Besides that it was a great read. Everything went along smoothly except for the flash bit parts that I was still confused about, but they did fit in...then the characters wouldn't talk about the "troubled" past.

Only to reappear as if in thin air. She's still in a rough stage of her life going from teenager to adult. So she needs all the closer she can get even if it's from a friend in the past. Ayla is thrown into a world of absolute truths and severe consequences. There is no gray area when dealing with death; even the question of morality is tossed out the window. There were some good things, and things reminded me of the show Supernatural--like the little plot twist at the end--but it only made me want to binge-watch that show for the nth time.
I did enjoy reading Grim; it was one of those cotton candy reads, satisfying but with no real substance (not to mention predictable). However, with that said, I would more than likely read the next one to see if things progress further (or rather in the way I anticipate). Sometimes cotton candy is nice, especially when it is wrapped up with questionable love interest, supernatural elements and monsters, and of course, death.

Ayla has a bad reputation so when she is found at a burning church, everyone assumes she set the fire. And what is she supposed to say, that a tattooed man chased her into the church and set the fire trying to kill her. But she killed him and then this Angel shows up and tells her she is now a reaper of demons and has to kill all demons until she manages to save her own soul. Yeah, maybe not.
This was a fun book. I like the world that is being built and the characters that were introduced. Ayla is a mixed up girl with an attitude. She wants to do things her way, but she has a soft spot for her grandfather and is a fiercely loyal friend. You have to like her. I am looking forward to finding out what happens next.

The beginning reminds me of a horror movie, a pretty girl walks into an abandoned church, late at night, because of a short text asking for help. Thankfully, things end slightly better for this girl. Yes, she is attacked and almost dies in a church that is now on fire, but she saves herself and is also saved by a firefighter. Cue the questions, battles, some answers and a possible romance. This is a good story where the heroine questions herself, her perceptions and what’s she’s willing to do for the people she loves.

This is book one of three in the Reaper's Redemption series by Thea Atkinson. This is the first book I have read by this author. I will be honest. I finished this book, but I am still unsure if I will read more. This was the first Urban Fantasy book that I just tried to dive into. At some points, the action seems to be real slow moving, and at other times, it seems to be speeding by at the speed of light. I would like to try another one of her stories to see if it is the writing style of the authors or if it is just this book.

Grim is an exciting book to read.
Ayla.. teenaged girl is an exciting main character.. there isn't anything that she wouldn't do for a friend.
There is Callum.. tall and very good looking .. he is something very special.
Sarah is like Ayla's sister in every way possible but there is no blood tie relation.
Ayla's Gramp is amazing, he is well loved by Ayla and Sarah.
Azreal is a character that is tricky he can pop in and out when he feels like it.. and he has a mission that is very unique.
Blend action, surprise and suspense together and you have the making of one awesome story. I loved reading Grim

This was a decent read but I found myself thinking wth through the majority of the book. I love a book with action and intrigue, love twist and turns but this was like a spiral. Once I figured out what was going on then I began to wonder who was this person that kept telling her she was a fallen angel who has to kill innocents to reclaim her wings. The book just felt like it was all over the place. I haven't really figured out how I feel about it but I did finish it. This is a new author for me, I just am not sure if we are a good match.

This was such an amazing take on a supernatural story line. The story was fast paced and well developed. Amazing world building. Ayla has experienced a lot of loss in her almost 18 years of life, but nothing could prepare her for what happens when an old friend reaches out to her. She learns that things are not all they seem to be, and she herself has secrets yet buried. The twist and turns are engaging and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Why? It was just hanging out in the opening scene for far too long, to the point where it repeated the scenario that opened the book. I lost interest as it dragged out getting to the point. Plus the part with her slipping all over the oil and losing function of her legs just played out very cartoonish in my head and I had a hard time getting past that. Ultimately it just wasn’t grabbing my attention. Too slow to start and I wasn’t waiting around. I received a copy of this book from the author through Book Sprout in exchange for an honest review.

Seventeen-year-old Ayla grew up in the foster system until her grandfather found her and petitioned for custody. Her foster sister Sarah taught her how to take care of herself so when Ayla gets a text from Sarah to meet her at the old church, she goes. Only Ayla does not find Sarah, what she finds is a Grim Reaper out to take her life. This story is fun to read even with all the messiness of the supernatural. Can't wait to see what Book 2 will bring. Highly recommended.

Ayla, while trying to help her friend, gets attacked and becomes the grim reaper she was fated to be. However she is the reaper of supernatural beings, which she didn’t know about previously. After her attack she is saved by Callum who is a friend to her grandfather. Ayla and Callum then work together to go back and save her friend Sarah, a necromancer. Lots of action to keep the plot moving and enough tension between Ayla and Callum to have reader cheering for them. Looking forward to the next in series.

An interesting Urban Fantasy about Ayla being unaware of her past and choosing her future. The twist and turns make this an interesting and entertaining read. I think I would have enjoyed this book more had Thea not focused so much in the details of the story and keep it simple. Grim by Thea Atkinson read more like a diary instead of storytelling and I think I would have enjoyed more had I read the first book in the series but it can be read as a standalone.

Cool start to the story! Battle in an old church! Interesting premise and lots of action; plus I enjoy paranormal elements and a bit of mystery. I didn’t realize the lead is a teenager though, so that’s not my favorite because of the teenage angst; too annoying at times. Ayla is a bit of an acquired taste; too erratic, but I appreciate that she has some fight to her. The writing didn’t quite flow at times, but the author did a good job of painting the scene with her words. Overall, an entertaining read.

For a large portion of this book I felt like I had jumped in mid rant and didn't really know what was going on. It took quite some time for me to finally catch up and feel like I had a good understanding of it. It was a little too fast paced for me, which is weird because at times it felt like it took forever for something worthwhile to happen, and the descriptions were a bit much for my taste. There were some elements that I enjoyed, but I'm not sure if I will read the second book or not.

Crazy time. Aah, it sounds like that is true. Almost getting killed, then finding out you had changed to become something you had no idea even existed. How do you use some thing you don't know you have? Or even what it is? What ever or who ever can tell Ayla how to defend herself from the paranormal she has to find it or them soon. Not a bad story at all. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

And so another series begins that was an amazing read. I was hooked from the first chapter and read it in one sitting. I liked the setup and the main characters . Plus the bit of mystery and danger were also good. I liked the feel of the regular world with a dash of the paranormal and that what is to come can be anything. Still some unknowns and mystery about our 2 main characters too. Just a great story that sucked me in.
