Kim Hunt Harris is the award-winning author of the Trailer Park Princess comic mystery series.

Kim knew she wanted to be a writer before she even knew how to write. When her parents read bedtime stories to her, she knew she wanted to be a part of the story world. She started out writing children’s stories, and her stories grew as she did. She discovered a gift for humor and a love for making people laugh with her tales, and the Trailer Park Princess series was born.

Kim loves to not only make her readers laugh and entertain them with a good mystery, but also to examine the issues the everyday people face…well, every day. Issues like faith and forgiveness, perseverance and tolerance. Set in Lubbock, Texas, the fun books feature a cast of quirky characters, outrageous situations, a drama queen of a dog, and from time to time, a tear or two.

Kim lives with her husband of more than thirty years and two teenage kids in Texas.

I was given a free copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Unsightly Bulges, by Kim Hunt Harris, is book two in the Trailer Park Princess series. It picks up three months later from book one. I continue to enjoy this series and am looking forward to book three. There are good lessons regarding life, every day struggles, and faith. The main character has real conversations with herself about her faith, her struggles with weight, and life in general.

Sometimes it’s hard to read a book in which one of the characters is someone you just cannot stand. The Dale character is annoying, irritating, and opinionated, and doesn’t listen (which the author meant to have him be), but thankfully the other characters make up for this one distraction.

I will definitely continue to read series this series. I enjoy the main characters, their quirks and laugh-out-loud antics, and the mystery and storylines are well developed

The book does need editing and there are some clues dropped in without any build up or detailed explanation. But overall an enjoyable reading experience.

Salem Grimes is an amateur private investigator working with her elderly best friend, Viv. She sees a dead body when she was out at Sonic getting a cheeseburger. She and Viv want to keep busy, so they decided (along with their new pain-in-the-butt-friend, Dale) they should investigate.
This book was so funny. There were a couple parts that made me laugh out loud. There was a mention of "Broccoli Butt-Crack" and another part involving shapewear that was all too real to me. Also, struggling with weight loss and all the temptations and everything that comes along with it, had me sympathizing right along with Salem. There were parts of her childhood that made me feel like I was right there wanting to hold her little-girl-hand to help her.
I love the wit and banter in this book. It kept me wondering what would happen next. Even though this story had some religious messages, I knew it would from the description. It wasn't overwhelming and stayed pretty sweet and light for the most part. I am glad I read it and may have to go back and check the other books in this series.

Well looks like Salem found another dead body. So her and her elderly friend Vi decided to investigate. They friend a young man who also helped them annoying as he was. The humorous parts where the rooster fights and the prairie dog meeting. The reason I only gave it 3 stars for this book is just my opinion . I didnt care for the ending as to who killed the man and the reason behind it all.
I usually figure out who the murderer is but this time I had no idea - fooled me LOL

Really Fun Read

Really fun read of a truly messed up heroine. She stops drinking, and begins to prayer. Has a dog that can't be alone without her.

Really fun and insightful story. Looking forward to the next one.

Can't wait to see what happens with Dale, Viv and Salem. I would love to see her get her HEA. And since she solved the murder, doesn't she get that $20, 000?

Initially, I was liking this story, now? I'm not that sure about it, I hate, HATE, that the author left the kiss with Bobby to drift away. I honestly think that Tony and Salem are better as friends than as a couple and that she is better off with Bobby. I'm really starting to feel torn about this, because as a cozy mystery is not that good, as a romance is awful and as personal growth/religious book I think they need more substance and a different plot to attract a different type of readers.

Wonderful wonderful!!!!!

This is hilarious read with a lot of real and serious conditions. I laughed out loud reading this book. I especially enjoyed Carl...he was a hoot. And I love the doggy barbershop. Viva is too much but I had aunts that I dearly loved that could fill that role.

Not quite as funny as the first one but still her prayers and weight loss issues were very real and humorous. The main subject was just a bit too serious and hated the haters. Still love her dog! Took me a while to finish as I wasn’t riveted- maybe just too formula.

A few weeks ago, I came across my review of the first book in this series, and I remembered how much I liked it. Then the author offered an audio review copy, and I jumped at the chance to visit Salem, Stump, and Viv again. So disclaimer right now: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Right then...

We start with Salem cheating on her diet at Sonic where she observes a naked dead body in the dumpster as the trash is being picked up. Then Salem (and Stump!), Viv, and 3rd (annoying, hopefully temporary) character try to solve the murder. We get aspects I loved from the first one, which had Salem dealing with her new sobriety and Christianity.

I liked how it was handled enough that I told one of my coworkers about it. There might be Christian stories and characters, but it's refreshing to see someone doing the work and trying to apply the teachings to daily life. Salem has a struggle with the love passages from Corinthians, and I felt that.

Salem continues to interact with Tony, and there's a heartfelt barbecue scene in which she realizes what she missed by not sharing her life and grief with the family.

As for the mystery, at first I couldn't tell who the killer was. We were rounding the bend, and I was doubtful we'd have a good suspect. But when it all fit into place it was both satisfying and sad.

Because I listened to this on audio, I'll make a small comment on the narrator's performance. I like how she performs female characters, and I'm thankful this is in Salem's POV. Her read on male characters isn't as good. When she's doing that, sometimes she over-enunciates in a way that isn't natural at all. It isn't enough to make me quit the series, but it is mildly annoying.

Verdict: Good cozy mystery that touches on various themes I think readers would find interesting. I recommend it and patiently await the next volume on audio.

I enjoyed this book. This is a very serious subject (hate crimes and things people do because of there prejudices) but the author covered it nicely in this fun cozy mystery and it worked well as a plot. The main reason it worked is because of all the great characters and the fact that the author broke it up with moments of humour and high jinks, even the police detective got in on the act. I love the fact that Salem isn't perfect, as this makes her down to earth and like able. I also love her job and think a dog groomer is unusual for a cosy and that alone sets this series part from the norm and makes it well worth a listen, especially with the addition of Dale as he is good for a few chuckles. The mystery was good and I had no idea who the killer was or why because there was plenty of suspects and I kept changing my mind. I can't wait for the next book.
Salem isn't cheating on her diet, her car just happened to take her to the fast food restaurant but when she sees a body fall out of a dumpster all thoughts of food fly out of the window. She is barely home before Viv is at her door wanting to investigate. The man was naked and with only one man either of them can think of who has gone missing and with a lot of charity money, for the homeless, is a man that just came out of the closet. Is his death a hate crime? Or to do with the missing money? As tempers flare over the situation and the media weighs in on the discussion, Salem and Viv gain a new detective to help ask the difficult questions. Can the three of them find the killer or are they barking up the wrong tree?
I like Sandra Murphy as a narrator, she is one of my favourites because I know if she is reading the story then I am in for a real treat and a great performance.

Book two of the Trailer Park Princess is a funny, edgy, Christian cozy.

Salem is still dealing with sobriety & dieting (the latter not-so-successfully), while grappling with her newfound faith. She & Viv have taken on the mystery of a local man whose body was dumped in the trash - witnessed by Salem as she was ordering fast food. Together, they team up with the annoying dump truck driver who was picking up said trash & Salem struggles with jealousy as he & Viv seem to become best friends. Salem is also delicately venturing into romance-adjacent territory, as she gets to know her husband she hasn't been divorced from for nearly a decade.

I love that the story tackles a hot-button issue in Christianity & the world; namely homosexuality, as the victim may have been targeted for being gay. The subject is handled deftly, with love, gentleness, & humor.

I've recently realized that I'm not a huge fan of cozy myseries, but I'm really enjoying Kim Hunt Harris' series, & I'm excited to get started on the next book!

It made me laugh out loud!

There are probably worse things in life than being named after your Mom’s favorite cigarette but Salem Grimes is pretty sure it illustrates that where her Mom is concerned Salem rates somewhere below a cigarette. Her whole life has been disfunction and chaos and even though she is staying sober and trying to get her life in some kind of order, she did not need to find another body and get involved in another murder case. Of course, to her best octogenarian friend Viv murder cases are a great source of fun and excitement, a distraction from the humdrum of normal living, but Salem does not need another distraction to keep from dealing with her problems.

This is a fun series. Salem and Viv are very unlikely heroines and half the time they are more partners-in-crime than crime fighters, but I like their very human qualities. The story has humor, mystery, and jaw-dropping approaches to problem-solving. It made me laugh out loud!

The author has pulled me back in

I can’t explain why or when but there is something about Kim Hunt Harris’ writing that has kept this series in my mind. I am not a religious person and have never read the Bible so there are times I uncomfortable with the high percentage of religious content. I wish there was more humor and mystery in the story and less conversations that are thought provoking. To me this is not a fun relaxing read but it is a relaxing way to face many difficult topics. After reading and putting it down for the night it left me internally thinking and at time discussing the topics at hand. I have never experienced an author the has meshed the lighthearted crime solving, interesting relationships, just plain mess ups and sole searching, religion, alcoholism, and obedience. At times Kim Hunt Harris’ writings are heavy but I can’t say I will I will not come looking for book 3. But after book 2 I need more humor and shenanigans. But I will be back.

Salem (the Trailer Park Princess) is parked at a drive-in restaurant when the garbage truck comes to dump the trash bin and Salem sees a naked body fall from the bin into the truck. So, of course, she follows the truck and calls the police--and wants to get involved in the investigation. From there things get sillier and sillier in her attempts (with her geriatric friend Viv and the garbage truck driver "helping") to find the killer before the police do. Along the way there are burritos and prairie dogs and cockfights and a shelter for gay adolescents and a snakehandling church. So, just a week or so in Salem's life. It's not great literature, but it is mostly fun.

Salem Grimes has a definite problem with weight--hers. That does not stop her from trying to find the person or persons who put a dead body into a dumpster. At least it stopped her from eating a greasy---BUT it also picked up a definitely crazy dump trunk driver who decided he was going to help Salem and her BFF hunt down the killer!

There are many sections that will make you groan and occasionally laugh as Salem tries to outwit herself on eating--and trying not to be jealous of everyone around her. She tries, she really tries!! She even reads a Bible verse every morning---

This is a cute cozy mystery that I think you will enjoy!

One of the Best Books

I laughed, and I cried (mainly because I was laughing so hard). I cried and I got sad. This book gave me so much joy to read because it is heartfelt and so very accurate in the way we think about ourselves. The heart she puts in Salem makes me want to know her and give her a hug. I also wish i could be on one of Salem and Viv's adventures! Kim made these characters so real thar they just jumped off the page. They becone your best friends! Kim is one of the most creative and funny writers I think I have ever had the pleasure to read. I'm waiting for book 6!

This series makes me laugh, but it also presents "real issues" and makes me think about them. I have "been there" with dieting and not liking how I look, and I can "relate" to all the feelings and thoughts Salem expresses. I have addiction issues, too ... not exactly the same as Salem's, but close enough ... so this series "speaks to me" ... yet it doesn't "preach" ... this book (like all the others in this series) is fun to read and light-hearted, while addressing serious problems. Recommended!

I really enjoyed the first book, but this one missed the mark for me. It was too preachy and about a subject that is close to my heart as I am the godparent of a child going through this. It was still a good read with characters to love and well written plot. I will definitely read the next one, and I highly recommend the book if you like Christian cozy mysteries.

Hilarious book

I enjoyed this book because it had me laughing out loud. Salem's attempt to solve a murder with her friend Viv provides lots of fun. I liked her trying to diet when surrounded by temptations. The characters were vibrant and convincing, as well as working together.

Great story! Our trailer park princess and her friends investigate the murder if a man found in a dumpster. Salem is a chubby, recovering alcoholic and budding Christian who is the most real protagonist you will ever meet. And somehow through it all she is also funny, funny, funny!

Good read

Once again, the ladies are doing the PI thing. Attempting to solve a murder. Also, while living regular life. Working at the groomers, seeing Tony and all sorts of other things.

Nice Christian Mystery

The mystery was good. And I like the two main characters, Salem and Viv. If you are a devout Christian, you will love this book, and I rated it accordingly. I, however, do not believe in some of the things said so this ends my journey with this series.

This is a real Laugh Your Sox Off tale! The characters are beyond looney, the situations too real, and the sleuthing hilarious.
Sandra Murphy is a great narrator who really makes the real characters come alive and really adds to the fun and suspense.

I love the Trailer Park Princess series! Salem is so relatable with her struggles with her weight and her faith.
I was not a fan of Dale and found myself agreeing with Salem to punch him. Pretty serious subject matter in this one and some of the homophobic views were hard to get through.
