Wallace and Jon are back!

Love the return to my fussy fox and his hard-head cop! I was so excited to get back to Wallace and Jon. I knew there'd be a lot of problems changing their relationship from a sexual one to a real relationship where two people have to find a way to merge their lives together.

Wallace is hurt so very much of Foxed Up. He's wounded emotionally when he overhears Jon talking down about their relationship to save face in front of another macho cop from a different precinct; he's wounded physically when he pushes himself too far by going undercover on a sting operation to save shifters who are being forced into prostitution, slavery, and being the entertainment of humans who value them only for their shifter status. I hurt with him while he tried to come to trust Jon again.

Jon tries so hard to be a good father he doesn't always think about how to be a really good boyfriend. He spends so much time terrified his son Eli won't accept Wallace as his boyfriend he forgets Wallace is his own man with feelings of his own which have nothing to do with his single father status. I loved seeing his efforts to redeem himself alongside him learning to be a better man on his own when he formed a bond as one father to another with the rabbit shifter Quinn Green. He really redeems himself with Wallace while never putting Eli second at the same time. I was pretty proud of him.

Foxed Up has to be read after FOXED, but none of the other books in the Shifters and Partners series are necessary to enjoying this story. I really recommend this couple as a fantastic shifter/human partnership as well as just a wonderful couple of opposites who form a great balance to one another. Fantastic work by Hollis Shiloh; I'm so glad I got more of this couple in this book.

The further adventures of Wallace and Jon take a frightening turn when Wallace goes undercover. Jon is still adjusting to his new out status and when a visiting shifter team are at the precinct he says some pretty crass things to hide his relationship with Wallace and is overhead. Wallace is deeply hurt and it puts them at odds. They're just starting to make up when Wallace doesn't check in from the operation. Jon is beside himself over his missing boyfriend and enlists the help of other shifters to locate him. Words have value and the wrong ones can cost you dearly, but understanding what motivates the words is important too as these two men find out.

This is my second time reading. It evokes such strong emotion in me. I'm upset with the relationship troubles and when characters are scared or in danger. Reading about crying always gets to me. All of the characters are vividly written.

I loved Jon and Wallace in the first book but in this one Wallace kind of drove me a bit crazy. He was just a bit too emotional and closed off for a good chunk of the book. I get that he was upset with Jon and even understood why but his reaction seemed a bit too much for me. On the other hand I love how hard Jon was trying to figure out how to be a good partner and to balance being a father to a son with emotional needs and a new boyfriend.

Trust

More about Jon and Wallace andEli. Jon makes a late mistake that almost destroyed their relationship. Wallace take a job that almost gets him killed. People are not happy a certified shifter was placed at risk. Wallace is healing and so is their relationship

I enjoy her shifter world but the text was so repetitive... lots of skipping and I didn't miss a beat.

Excellent Sequel

Dreamy prose, excellent world building and distinct personalities. Have read all of Hollis Shiloh I have found, and while I prefer her shifter books, I enjoy all of them.
