Kamala Suraiyya (born Kamala; 31 March 1934 – 31 May 2009), also known by her one-time pen name Madhavikutty and Kamala Das, was an Indian English poet and littérateur and at the same time a leading Malayalam author from Kerala, India. Her popularity in Kerala is based chiefly on her short stories and autobiography, while her oeuvre in English, written under the name Kamala Das, is noted for the poems and explicit autobiography.

Her open and honest treatment of female sexuality, free from any sense of guilt, infused her writing with power, but also marked her as an iconoclast in her generation. On 31 May 2009, aged 75, she died at a hospital in Pune. Das has earned considerable respect in recent years.

Migration, family, love, loneliness, and many other themes pertaining to life are beautifully described by the author in this book. Some of the parts in this book will remind us of Maya Angelou and her creations. This will be a great choice if you are a fan of books by Madhavikutty. —————————————————————————

I need to pause to take in this beautiful, heartbreaking book that gives us a glimpse into the world of Madhavikutty.
She picks up snippets from her life and weaves a story that will make you think about life.
Bombay- Kerala and the years spent in other parts of the country, with migratory residents who have left lasting impressions in her life, family who despite the short comings have stuck together and finding solace in her writing.
What a journey.❤️

My fastest read, that explains the pull generated by the book. A book that precariously walks a tight rope between fine literature and tickling sensuality. I really don't know what glued me to the book, former or latter?
It was indeed a path breaking book which paved the way for the current openness of many Indian ladies. The author must be given the credit to have broken many shackles and brought the topic of feminist freedom to the limelight.

She (Madhavikutty) slowly becoming one of the writer whom i'm so obsessed with. This book of her reveals how she was shattered by the society. She was genuine towards everyone who come to her but the reflection/acknowledgment received from those persons broke her heart. The more genuine and frank she portrayed through her novels , the more the society's hatred become. And the love towards her younger son kept her alive and inspired her to write more and more , just to keep her son's future safe. When the vultures did come behind her with their sharp beaks hurts her to the extreme which led her to leave to Kanyakumari. The sole and soulful life of her and the conversation with the vast ocean & waves. And the way she contrast her to a disable racing horse which cannot run any more. And the days at Bombay where she witnessed the daily labors life at Nariman point and so on and on. I'm on my way to collect all of her works and create a special place for those in my shelf/heart.

In this small 110 pages of autobiography, Madhavikutty talks about her life after 'Ente Kadha', her difficult times, her family, children, husband, love and controversies more honest than ever. Books and writing has been always her world and she discloses everything before her readers as they are the only one who truly listens to her. Ente Lokam is a good read for anyone who enjoyed Ente Kadha.

എത്ര തവണ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു, ദാസേട്ടൻ അഭിമാനത്തോടെ എന്നെ മറ്റുള്ളവർക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. ഇതാണ് എന്റെ കവിയത്രിയായ ഭാര്യ കമല. എന്റെ കവിതയെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ കവിത നീക്കി കളഞ്ഞാൽ അവശേഷിക്കുന്ന ഭാഗത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കഴിയില്ല എന്ന് എനിക്കറിയാം. മനുഷ്യർ ഗുണങ്ങളെയാണ് സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നത് ഗുണങ്ങൾ ഒരാളിൽ നിന്നും നീക്കിയാൽ അവശേഷിക്കുന്നത് വെറുക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു അനാവശ്യവസ്തുമാത്രം.
എന്റെ സ്വഭാവത്തെ ഇടയ്ക്കിടയ്ക്ക് വിശകലനം ചെയ്തു നോക്കുമ്പോൾ വൈചിത്രങ്ങൾ ഓർത്ത് ഞാൻ ചിരിക്കാറുണ്ട്. പണ്ടെങ്ങാനും സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്ന, ആവേശത്തോടെ പ്രേമിച്ചിരുന്ന പുരുഷന്മാരെ ഓർക്കുമ്പോൾ ഇപ്പോൾ എന്റെ ഹൃദയം തുടിക്കുന്നതേയില്ല. മനസ്സിൽ അവർക്കാർക്കും ഇപ്പോൾ യാതൊരു സ്ഥാനവുമില്ല.
