At twenty-three, theatre actress Erin Javier has yet to fall in love or kiss a boy offstage, away from the klieg lights. She is the perfect leading lady—whose heart men would fight for, win, and protect—unfortunately, only until the curtains fall and the lights go down. In real life, Erin is a certified NBSB whose heart has been hoping for a song to dance to.
But when two (two!) men enter from stage left and right, Erin is confused. Who deserves to take center stage in her heart—Mr. Theatre Royalty whose attention and displays of affection make her pulse race, or a good friend whose steady support has helped steer her to success and fulfill her dream?
Tara Frejas is a cloud-walker who needs caffeine to fuel her travels. By day, she works in project management and events, and she writes down her daydreams at night. She began publishing fiction for public consumption in 2004, posting her pieces on various online channels like fan forums and Blogspot, eventually exploring other avenues like Livejournal, Soomp!, Tumblr, and most recently, Wattpad.
Aside from her obvious love affair with words and persistent muses, Tara is very passionate about being caffeinated, musical theatre, certain genres of music, dancing, dogs, good food, and romancing Norae, her ukelele. She owns a 6-month-old male bunny named Max who sometimes tries to nibble on her writing notes.
Thoroughly feelgood romance, file under "utterly warm and fluffy". Young actress has never been kissed except professionally. Enter stage left the choreographer who has adored her from afar but never worked up the nerve to ask her out, and stage right the stunningly handsome, charming, successful TV star who swoops in to woo her just when the first guy has screwed up his courage.
Here I digress on romance as wish fulfilment. We all know the "nice guy" who "gets friendzoned", joins MRA forums and ends up spewing misogyny because there was a reason women avoided him in the first place. We also all know the handsome charmer who pays endless attention in order to get what he wants. WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF MEN COULD NOT DO THAT. And here we have a story where the quiet guy with low self esteem actually faces up to his own responsibility for not getting the things he wants in life, and knows very well he isn't entitled to the girl, and the charming handsome guy is sincere and goes on to behave with decency and respect . Talk about wish-fulfilment fantasy. How silly women are for wanting these things.
Ahem. This is a light, bright, fun, engaging romance, with three hugely likeable leads and a really well-drawn setting. Another #romanceclass winner.
Okay, that's it - my goal for 2018 is to read every single book by Tara Frejas. Tara really know the way to my heart apparently: first she made me fall in love with her writing with Scandalized, and now she made my heart both race and sing of joy with Waiting in the Wings. I absolutely loved the characters and the really fun and upbeat atmosphere that Tara created. I really hope 2018 will bring nothing but success to this amazing author because she really deserves it!
Welcome to Waiting in the Wings! The show is about to start. You don't have to wait a lot of time to see (and read) this book that will for sure captivate many hearts and make you fall in love with the main leads.
*inserts applause.gif* Tara Frejas's new novel is about the theatre world and all its dazzling world inside of it and behind scenes and maybe.... waiting behind the curtain. We have our two leads, Erin and Ramon, who became friends in college when Ramon taught Erin to dance (sobs he knows how to dance, he is a choreographer ok?!!!) They haven't seen each other for a while and the story starts with Ramon taking this new job in the company where Erin works and /he/ knows it and he wants to see her AND HE IS SO HAPPY WHEN HE DOES.
Ramon Figueroa *hello* meet my new book boyfriend. How can someone measure up to him now? He is one of the sweetest, most supportive heroes I have read. Literally he wants Erin to be happy and if he isn't the main part of that happiness and another guy is, he just wants to see her happy. All the hearts eyes for Ramon, you win the award for the most adorable hero ever.
I am already writing my review lmao but I have my blog post tomorrow for the tour so I'll finish it there ~
I loved the chemistry between Erin and Ramon! Best friends always have the best sort of chemistry, even when one is pining for the other. I love they way they fell seamlessly back into each other after spending some time apart. Erin is the one taking the lead in this relationship, unknowingly setting the boundaries and rules between her and Ramon to keep him in the friend category. They had the best dialogue, and the part where they rehearsed the author-written(!) song Himig ng Pag Uwi, I could feel the strength of their emotions in their voices without actually having to hear a single note. Waiting in the Wings follows the style of Tara's other books--the plots may be simple, but she writes with such heart and beautiful turn of phrase that you fall in love with the characters anyway.
Like I said, this book is a love letter to Philippine Theater, and I can't imagine anyone but Tara writing it. She's created a fantastic, but very real world of actors singing original music, creating new things almost every day. She's featured beautiful songs by original Filipino artists, and showed the family-like camaraderie that we usually find in groups of the same circle here. Reading Tara's book is familiar and honestly, stress-free. It put a smile on my face from beginning to end.
This book was honestly so cute! Immediately, you’re sucked in to this amazing group of friends, all of them working at the theatre. The squad feels more like a family. Each character has such a different personality, making it easy to spot at least one character’s traits in one of your friends. Ate H and Jericho and Mark and Kai make the story really special. Whenever Ate H would fuss over Erin’s love life, I couldn’t help but smile, thinking of all the times I’ve done that. She genuinely wanted Erin to be happy, and I’m always a sucker for a good female friendship. Another thing to love about the book! The overused “mean girl” trope was nowhere to be found! All of the girls at the theatre supported each other, and wanted each other to be happy. There was no backstabbing, no gossiping, no lies, nothing. All of the things that went wrong in Erin’s life were Erin’s fault, not some jealous character’s. And yea, some things went wrong. I mean, she was going out with Pio but even on dates with him thought about Ramon. She would build up Ramon’s confidence, just to accidentally shatter it. Asking Pio to let Ramon perform was probably the worst thing she could’ve done to him. She owed him nothing other than support, and she messed that up too. I think my heart actually broke for Ramon in that scene. It also broke for him when the cast list came out. I was rooting so hard for him to get that top spot, knowing it would just go to Pio. As a band kid, I know what it’s like to be the underdog performer trying out for the lead. It worked the first time for me (though I wasn’t so lucky the second), and I was hoping it would work for him. When he got to perform in the end, I was thrilled, because he at least got one chance to shine on the stage and show the crowd that he was brilliant as well. I was rooting for him the whole way through, on stage and off. Not gonna lie, at first I wasn’t quite sure who Tara wanted the audience to ship. There was a whole big build up about Ramon and his crush on Erin, and how he’d been in love with her for years, but was too scared to ask her out (he also gets bonus points for not feeling entitled to anything more than friendship. Where are these guys in real life, am I right, ladies?). But then, Pio swoops in and asks her out. He takes her on a lavish date and is so romantic he makes the reader practically swoon while reading about it. At that point, I was already attached to Ramon, but was starting to think that she would end up with Pio despite all that buildup. Thankfully, I was wrong, and she ends up with Ramon, who truly believed in her from day one.
I received an eARC copy of this book from Tara Frejas which in no way swayed my thoughts on the story.
Rarely do I get the chance to participate on blog tours and promote books that are about Philippine Literature and Theater Arts. It might not occur to most of my friends because I don’t usually mention it, but I’m a big fan of theatrical performances, whether it be set in a Filipino setting or not. I like the idea of watching, and appreciating this kind of art, but I’ve never wondered as to how it really is to be a performer. Only until after I heard of Waiting In The Wings did I become intrigued.
Waiting in The Wings is a love story about Erin Javier, a theater performer who’s torn between her love for Ramon, her co-performer who’s always had her best interests at heart, and Pio, who’s bright smile and fame can easily swoon lots of girls. The story focuses on not just the journey Erin took before she chose between these lovely boys, but it also tackles how amazingly heartfelt it is to be a part of something so moving, and emotional here in the Philippines, which is the community of Filipino theater performers.
First off is the writing style. Erin, Ramon, and Pio’s story was told in such a very simple yet moving way. Tara’s writing, albeit this being the first time I read a book by her, is strongly appealing and will surely be an instant favorite for those who like short, and simple, but still utterly entertaining and sweet stories. Waiting in The Wings will have you sweet-sighing from one moment, and just plain crying and cringing to the next. Also, the nods she wrote to songs composed by actual Filipinos? I have no words to express my gratitude.
Next is the impressive and subtle way that the love triangle between Erin, Ramon, and Pio was handled. For years, I’ve had issues with the love triangle trope. I see it as something that’s a bit problematic and angsty, and I try to stay away from said trope as much as possible, especially if there are negative reviews about a specific title, but with Waiting in The Wings, it wasn’t angsty at all! It’s quite the opposite. It highlighted the importance of choosing the right person for you, without the MC having to feel pressured to choose with haste. (Am I making sense here, or…?)
And lastly, I love how everything turned out fantastically in the end. The ending was a little too predictable for me, but everything was so well written, and well delivered, and I love how my ship unexpectedly sailed. (Don’t you just love it when you get on all the right ships?) Honestly, I’m amazed with the ending as my favorite LI for Erin got his big break!!! (Is this a spoiler? Probably, but you’ll understand my feels when you read it.)
“Waiting in The Wings is a fantastic New Adult novel about how it is to be a part of an amazing family of Theater Performers. Not only that, but it also pays great tribute to plenty of Filipino composed songs which I consider to be great contributions to Philippine literature. Oh, and did I mention that it’s written rather beautifully? It’s an amazing book meant to be read by all those who has ever felt negatively about being a small star in a galaxy filled with constellations.”
Thank you to Tara Frejas for letting me be a part of this blog tour, as well as for providing a review copy, and tour kit for me. This, by the way, did not affect my opinion nor the content of my review in any way.

Waiting in the Wings mixes theater and romance in the cutest, most passionate way ever! I fell in love with the characters immediately and was swept behind the curtains with them. One thing I have to point out is how cute Ramon's character is. Listen, we need more men like him, he's so sweet and thoughtful and caring.. BLESS!!!
One thing I liked is the way the characters learn and grow as the story goes on. As much as this could have been a love triangle (god knows im not a fan of those), Tara knew how to not make the romance center around that. It was never a choice between the two, as much as it's about both Erin and Ramon figuring out themselves and sorting their feelings about each other in the process.
ALSO!! the romantic gestures are INSANE!! and so CUTE!! one of my favorite scenes is towards the ending when Erin does this particularly cute thing , to win Ramon over. I also like that the girl takes initiative in this one at some point.
Basically, if you're looking for that Valentine's day/romance/theater and performances vibe, this book is for you! GET ON IT.
Waiting in the Wings serves up HEA in spades. It’s a fun and happy read that packs a punch of happy feelings as things progress. Of course, along the way, I can’t say the same. One of the things floating in my head while reading it was, this is one character away from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and as messy (in love) as it.
One of the things I love about Waiting in the Wings is how we see both MC and LI struggling to find things in life: love and career, respectively. While there are books who treat the LI as human as the MC, a lot of books still set up the LI as a perfect piece of flesh, meant to be desired and admired throughout the text.
Waiting in the Wings brings a refreshing LI in Ramon Figueroa’s character. We rarely see an LI owning up to self-esteem issues that usually plague the MC, but here’s the thing: flaws create character and depth that makes your LI, or any character for that matter, more dynamic. Dynamic characters are always a good thing. It endears the readers to them and creates for a more complex book.
I just love how we see Ramon try and build himself up. I especially love how the book portrays him as someone who would do things to better himself. We don’t see much of that in books. Ultimately, my reading of Waiting in the Wings is a coming-of-age of both main characters, overcoming obstacles and growing together. I especially love how they both figured out things for themselves together.
Erin Javier is the cutest character I have ever read so far. She is this cuddly ball of sunshine, and in Ramon’s words, people just can’t help but fall in love with her. And it’s true. At her very core, you know Erin just wants to help out. But for me, her character begins her development a little earlier than Ramon. With her conscious decision to wait in the wings (see what I did there?), to allow herself to experience the things she usually portrays on stage, seemed not quite an easy decision to make for someone as giving and kind as Erin.
But, this kindness of her is also her character flaw. She tries so hard to be there for and to help Ramon but it does more harm than help. But you have to give it to her, her grand gesture was one of the most beautiful Grand Gestures I’ve ever read—realistic, not too gaudy, artistic, and fits their characters just right. I am so down with that kind of Grand Gesture.
Should I talk about Pio? Okay, I guess so. Pio Alvez is the foil to Ramon’s character: he is confident, his career is stable, and there is just a deep rooted sense of self with him. He is the obvious, no-brainer choice for Erin’s LI if you think about it logically. But Pio is also the shiny boy you’d just love to stare at. I feel like Pio could be a great character but this is not his book yet and he is emotionally unavailable for Erin. His schedule and all his rules (baggage, tbh) make him just unfit for this book. It’s not his turn to grow yet. He is a prime character for another MC, though, but not for Erin.
There are lots of reasons to read this book: the characters, the growth, the story. And to add more reasons, read it for the intertextual material. There are wonderful songs penned for this book that snatches my heart and I can only just imagine if they were really singing in real life for a stage adaptation. I can’t even wrap my head around writing songs, for me that’s such a big task. Like writing poetry.
I just love this book to pieces! Ramon is a great character to fall in love with, and yes, I really identify with Erin’s affectionate character (hehe). And hey, I just realized now how ripe Pio is for a celebrity romance story! Heh. I hope we see a sequel with Pio.
Here’s the thing. The main reason that got me curious enough about the book is Erin and the fact she’s NBSB. I mean, hello, is this book going to talk about me? Full review here.
Waiting in the wings takes us backstage. Behind the lights and curtains, there’s Erin. A 23 years old theatre actress who’s tired of her NBSB status and who’s longing for something. A real kiss. A real happily ever after.
As a theatre actress, she was the perfect leading lady. She had fallen in love, kissed the boy, and experienced happily ever after. But all of it were just fictional. Now, she decided that she had enough. That it’s about time for her to create her own real love story. Enter the two guys: Ramon, a friend who got away and Pio, a famous local actor. Suddenly Erin is torn between two guys fighting for her affection.
I love Waiting in the wings!!! It brought Kilig from the beginning til the end. I remember there was a part that I almost squealed out loud, but I had to stop myself because I was reading in public. I know you will definitely enjoy this one, and you will fall in love with the story and it's characters.
The whole time I was reading, It felt like I was sucked inside their world. I like how she had written about theatre and how she incorporated it to the story. It's not too much, just enough to make you want to be a part of their world.
Let me you about the characters. They were so adorable and easy to love. The chemistry between the characters were there. I love how they compliments each other personalities. The charming and ever dependable guy, Ramon. Haaay! I truly adore him. What I loved about him is the fact the he is not your cliché ‘perfect’ male love interest. He has flaws, for me that’s what makes him super irresistible. And there's Pio. I like him too. He's the ideal book boyfriend. He's famous and really talented. He's a great contender for Erin's heart. So I do understand if Erin will have difficulty choosing the right guy.
"Waiting in the wings" is a tale of finding love at the right time with the right person. It's a perfect read not only for every member of Team NBSB (Hi teammates!) but also for readers who's looking for something to satisfy their post valentines feels.

An ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of Erin Javier, a theatre actress and certified Never Been Kissed leading lady, who suddenly finds herself at the center of a love triangle. But not just any love triangle, it’s the kind that’s tender, non-toxic, and beautifully handled. Tara Frejas nails what so many stories get wrong: both love interests are worthy in their own way, making Erin’s choice difficult, not because of drama, but because of depth.
This book is a beautiful reminder that the universe doesn’t always give us what we think we want, it gives us what we need. Every aspect of this book works: the heartfelt writing, the layered characters, the way the story unfolds like a stage play you don’t want to end. It’s quietly magical in the best way.
This book is from a talented Filipino author within the #romanceclass community, and I wholeheartedly recommend checking them out.
I'm at a loss for words. I've had a lot of thoughts and commentaries while reading this but now that it ended, I just wanna bask in the glow of their HEA. *sabog glitters*
Pio is ~waiting in the wings~ to show who he really is and what he can do to the world, while trying to capture a girl's heart. (Towards the end, he will easily capture your fragile heart.)
Ramon (DIBS!) in his dancing adorable cutesy self- is also ~waiting in the wings~ to finally find the courage to say and show what he really feels for him to finally claim his heart's leading lady. (Warning: He will unnoticeably steal your heart. Piece by piece. You've been warned.
Erin is ~waiting in the wings~ to finally find her own story's leading man. A reunion with a college *ehem* friend *ehem*, a superstar saving you and vying for your heart. Songs, dances, feelings, letters and everything else... will she finally find what her heart desires?
What I'm actually saying is... READ. THIS. BOOK. And keep your hearts locked up
This is the first story that I have to read the ending because I couldn’t wait to know whom Erin would end up to. I was getting crazy and heartbroken when Pio was being introduced. I read it backward and it was so sweet! I felt Ramon’s heartache, Erin’s confusion and Pio’s longing. The letter and the silver coin were incredible! I was moved emotionally and it made me remember when I was doing theater production. The title was very appropriate not just about finding love, but more about letting your talent shine on the right time. I want to re-read this story again with my own hands, yes, I’m going to buy my own copy! Please also write a story about Pio because he deserves a happy ending as well. Great job with the songs! Congratulations with your latest masterpiece, Tara.
Thank you for the ARC and for being part of Waiting In The Wings blog tour.
Okay. Here's the thing. I know when I read a #romanceclass book that I will have another book boyfriend. It's just inevitable. And when I read this book I was very surprised. Because I didn't have just one book boyfriend, I got two! What the heck Ramon and Pio! It's sooo hard to choose between you. So I won't. Everybody happy.
Can I just say that I loved this book so much that I literally forgot to write a review in here for more than 2 days after I finish reading because I was so busy fangirling? Yep. I even made a WAITING IN THE WINGS thread on twitter for all the feels I felt.
I have no idea where to start. I have this thing where, the more I loved a book, the harder it is for me to write something about it. Maybe that's the reason why I subconsciously put off reviewing this one.
Let's start with my feelings: I am mostly thankful. To my friend who suggested Waiting in the Wings to me. To myself, for giving this book a shot. And to Tara, who shared and written such amazing story. I am also floored and shocked tbh, with how much I loved this one. I don't usually let myself feel the "feels" but with Erin and Ramon, man, it's inevitable. I legit fell in love with Erin's character after reading the first chapter. And then Ramon happened. Boom. I am a goner. I don't trust myself with ships but I just can't help but to ship those two! The chemistry between them was so palpable, it felt so real. Then enters Pio. I have to admit, I never given that dude a chance. I was already invested with my Erin x Ramon ship. But seriously, Ramon may be my ideal man but I'll take Pio to be my in real life man. Waiting in the Wings felt closer to my heart than most books I've read. Some factors may be the settings and the references. I am a huge fan of performing arts and it's nice to read a story with that as one of the premises. Also, the characters felt so real. I can see myself doing something similar to what Erin did. And isn't it nice? To have a little bit of fiction in your reality?
And can we talk about the "Labyu." "I love you too." moments? How can something so cute and casual hurts so bad? Kudos to Tara! Those are straight to the heart feels. I have so many favorite moments from this book I will definitely revisit this again.
And to end this pseudo-review, I am #TeamRamon all the way... (because I want Pio for myself. Ha ha)
Waiting in the Wings by Tara Frejas is a sweet theater romance set in a local theater in Manila. It's about 23-year-old Erin who has been a leading lady in so many stage productions and have experienced tons of stage kisses because of that, but has yet to experience a real one. I started reading this on a flight back from Manila to Singapore after watching a local musical in the Philippines, and it was a good choice. It felt like the right book at the right time. You could really feel the author's passion for Philippine theater through this story, and as a result, the setting feels very authentic. A fairly low heat romance which goes well with the overall theme of Erin not having had a real life romance yet. And the kilig is totally on point, making it a very cute and sweet romance. There's also a love triangle that I surprisingly didn't mind because it's not angsty and the two men in the picture are really great guys. I believe besfluencer @readbyher called this a healthy love triangle. It just made more sense for Erin to be with the person she has feelings for, the one she's more comfortable with. This is one of those romances that shows it's just easy to be with the right person. Although I am looking forward to the other guy getting his own HEA in a companion novel to this one. Will be adding this to my list of #romanceclass recs! Highly recommended for those curious about a theater romance set in the Philippines or if you want a quick, fun and low heat romance read.
in the beginning, i was really enjoying this but then the heroine started making assumptions and becoming jealous for the stupidest reasons and it annoyed me to the moon and back. the book starts with her realizing she wants to take a break from playing lovesick protagonists until she gets the chance to get her own love story in real life, but there was no plot here?? where is the plot??? is there a plot or do i simply not care????
it was all just so convenient, these two amazing guys step into her life, and it had the potential to be an iconic love triangle, but the execution fell flat. i really liked the hero, but the friends-to-lovers trope didn't work too much for me here, as i was bored most of the time, the chemistry was very much "all tell and no show"; i was supposed to root for them just because they were really good friends once but i didn't get the chance to experience those feelings.
there was also a ton of miscommunication and in my humble opinion, the heroine doesn't deserve the hero. and the way she treated the other guy she was interested in didn't sit well with me, when all he did was treat her with kindness.
i do see other people really enjoying this, as it is steeped in filipino culture, which i really liked to see, and my theater kid soul was soaring at how amazing the theater element was. but that wasn't enough to save me from boredom or keep me from wanting to fall asleep throughout the majority of the book.
Despite having copies of Tara's first 4 books, this is the first one that I've read. And I literally fell in love with WITW by just reading the first chapter.
It shows how theater people work behind the scenes. I love how Teatro Lakambini treats each other as family. I love how nothing has change between Ramon and Erin even though they spent some time away from each other. I love how Erin helped Ramon step out of his comfort zone and conquer his fears. I may be Team Monfigs but let's admit it, Pio is dreamy. He's got the looks, the talent, the fame and wealth. Too bad, Ramon got my heart first.
Blurb: At twenty-three, theatre actress Erin Javier has yet to fall in love or kiss a boy offstage, away from the klieg lights.
I could feel the author's passion for theater--in the way she crafted the lyrics and described how the actors interpreted the pieces (kept the sorrow near his heart--love that line). I laughed out loud (okay, LOL) when H suggested that Ga is short for Gago. And yes, LI, I'm so happy you got the girl in the end.
The history is this: I'm not that into theatre. I watch, I can appreciate, I've even been part of a few (the costumes still live back at home), but it's not a priority. But because Tara is one of my author biases (whyisn'tshe yours?), I didn't think twice about signing up to beta-read, joining the blog tour (I did an interview!) and finally one-clicking it (do it here!). And now I'm here to tell you that: Yay! I'm into theater now!
Lol, I exaggerate. What I mean is that, I think I like theatre again. This book reminded me why it's awesome. Teatro Lakambini sounds like such a fun, talented bunch that I'm aching to intern for (whoa), and I love all the peeks into what happens backstage. Speaking of backstage... I can't just gloss over theatre romance now, can I? Because ehmehged, this book.
(Do not dare tell me HSM doesn't count and that Zanessa is now only but a distant memory!)
In this books, there's friends-to-lovers and a love triangle to enjoy, and there's also courage and passion to be inspired by. Erin, Ramon and yes, even Pio, are not only the stellar cast you didn't know you were looking for, but also reflections of the pieces of your self you've been wanting to find. (See how profound I just got there? :p) This is a story that shines with much love, and even though I've read this for quite a few times now, it's a show I would love to see again and again. That said, I'm getting a print copy of this soon and if you're someone who wants to step out of the wings and fly (butterfly), you should, too.
BONUS!

I read this book in one sitting because it’s really good! I was still high and dry from April Feels Fest, a local event courtesy of the #romanceclass community. Waiting in the Wings was one of the books that got featured in the live reading, and I’d say that it was one of the main reasons why I read this book. I felt so much kilig during the live reading and the same thing happened while I was reading the book.
Erin, the main character, was lovely. I really like her overall vibe and I could relate to her. Ramon was so adorable, I’d love to just cuddle with him forever. He’s such a great friend to Erin, and I just love how supportive he was of her, even if it somehow stomps on his feelings. It’s also worth noting that Ramon has alopecia, I think it’s a good thing to have this representation in books. Pio, the other guy that makes up the love triangle, is adorable as well. Although, I saw him as a bit reserved, but he’s also lovely and it’s hard to hate him! I heard that Tara is writing a story about him, so I really can’t wait to read about that.
I really liked the whole premise of the book, which featured theatre arts. I’m probably the least person you’ll see on stage, but you can bet that I’ll be one of the people who can fill in the audience. I’ve always had an admiration to theatre people and seeing plays and productions were the best things I did during college. It’s nice to see this aspect of the arts in the book up close.
I don’t usually enjoy books with love triangles but this was one big exemption. The love triangle was well-executed and there was literally zero bad blood between the two male leads. I just love how the whole thing unfolded, the romance between the three was fun to read. Also the “labyu” drops, oh my gosh, those were my favorite scenes!
I think I’m a bit on an advantage here since I have already experienced the feel of the book because of the live reading, even before I was able to read the whole thing. If any, it heightened my experience in reading. I also love Tara Frejas’s writing style, the emotions were easy to pick up, and it made me swoon so hard! This was my first from her and I can’t wait to read more!
I had been on an awful reading slump where everything I read was just an agonizing experience. Thank Christ I decided to pick up this book that has been sitting idly in my Kindle for some time. This book saved me. As in.
WITW was easy to read. I always struggled at the beginning of most books I read because the author usually takes time to introduce the character and most of the time it gets so fricking boring. When I was introduced to Erin Javier, it was like meeting an old friend (no joke). There was such an easy familiarity to Tara Frejas's writing that I cannot believe it took me THIS long to read this book. Tara obviously loves theater, and the respect she has for this form of art bleeds through the pages. You know an author knows her shit when you as a reader find yourself transported inside the story. I barely looked at my reading progress because I was THAT hooked, it was borderline insane.
And let me tell you about the male characters. My god. Ramon and Pio. MYGAAAAAD. Where have these guys been all my life? Ramom and Pio were written like they existed. There was nothing weird or awkward about their dialogue. I am gagged at how the story unfolded so naturally that I silently envied Tara's writing chops.
By the time I finished reading this book, I just sat there for a good 5 minutes, wishing Ramon, Erin, and Pio were just right across me. I have so much respect and admiration for Tara who knew and loved theater so much, she portrayed and described everything so believably.
Thanks for getting me out of my reading slump, Tara. Labyu. ❤
