Set in France during the Nazi invasion, this book seems as true to life as any I've read. My toes are still cold after reading of the deprivation the French suffered under their Nazi captors. I felt hunted as part of the French resistance, grieved as family members died or were executed. This is a definite "don't miss" novel.
I was given this book to read. It was not one I am typically drawn to. I started it and was blown away at how pulled in I was. I was lost in the story. As I read, I felt all the emotions, and I felt like I was there in a way, watching this all happen and unfold. I could not put this book down. when I did, it was in my mind, and I was thinking about it until I could pick it up again. This book took me by surprise. It was so emotional and opened my eyes to a time I was so unaware of. I felt sad, angry, hurt, just all the feelings. When it ended, I wanted more of the story. A book I never would have picked to read became my FAVORITE book I have ever read. so very good...so emotional....just leaves me wanting more of the story and also to learn more of the women and all of the people that endured so much pain and suffering yet made it and lived on. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Probably my favorite book of all time. It’s long but it is worth the read. It just brings so much emotion and so much thought to a readers brain. I really enjoyed it and it just made me feel so connected to the book. 10/10 would recommend.
