Dad's Best Friend

Rate this book

Losing my parents was one of the hardest things that I’d ever been through. I was just a teenager and needed my mom. Through legal paperwork as well as love, I went to live with Dad’s best friend, Perry Adams.

They were friends since grade school, and I didn’t know anyone better than Perry. It was perfect.

Then came the years when I grew older and more aware of hormones and emotions. I knew it was wrong to want to sleep with a man that was twice my age as well as such a close member of my family.

It just got harder, though. I knew so many guys at school that would take care of my needs, but they were crass and immature.

They weren’t Perry.

Before I knew it, I was graduating from college and more attracted to him. He suggested a trip together to celebrate, and I agreed, with no intentions of anything happening between us.

Then there was a kiss, and we couldn’t stop it.

Was there a future for Perry and me?

Could we get past all the wrongs in our relationship?

Could I start my life without him in it now that I didn’t have to stay?

AUTHOR'S NOTE : This is a sexy standalone novella with a guaranteed HEA. I’ve also included several more exclusive bonus books for your reading pleasure, including excerpts to my HOT SELLER'S - “FAIR PLAY” and "BREAKING RULES"

This was a quick, sweet & steamy read.

Both of Carolines parents died when she was 13 and went to live with her dads best friend Perry. Perry did everything he could to make Caroline happy and never left her lacking for anything. When Caroline turns 16 she starts to develop feelings for Perry but, never acts on it.

For Carolines college graduation Perry surprises her with a vacation and that's where everything changed for them. There's a few things that happen during there that have me seriously questioning Carolines judgement and her overall intelligence. I don't get offended by stupid situations that typically happen in books but, I did find myself genuinely annoyed as fuck at a lot of Carolines actions. Overall I did like the book but, found Caroline immature and stupid!

**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**

This book started out for me being 4 stars. But once they went on the vacation it went downhill for me. There were a few quite a few things that occurred in this book, that normally would've had be putting it down and not finishing it. However, I felt obligated to finish it since I did receive an ARC.
1. This one is completely my own opinion. I don't care if the main male or even the female have had sexual partners before getting together with each other. I can even get passed the fact that he went and slept his way through town right before their vacation. What I can't stand is that he has a freakin hickey on his neck from screwing around the night before, and you still let him put his dong in you?!? WTF WOMAN! NO!
2. I have found I actually enjoy the older male/younger female story lines. What I don't like is when the girl, who has been mentioned earlier as having an "old soul" or "mature for her age", shows her age and act immature in a situation when she should be an adult and talk shit out. Caroline knew before she slept with Perry that people would look at their relationship different. But instead of talking out her thoughts or issues, she runs away. The fact that she also lied about being on birth control just sealed it and made me honestly hate Caroline more. She honestly believed that during a 3 week vacation period that she couldn't get pregnant? Again, she is supposed to be smart WTF WOMAN!
3. I absolutely, positively HATE, I repeat HATE books where the women hide their pregnancy from the men. I don't see how this is great to read about, it doesn't create drama. All it does is make me think the woman is probably the stupidest person on the planet. (Unless of course he was abusive or raped, then I can understand. But I wouldn't read anything with those in it.)

Now as I said above, the beginning of this book started out good. I actually thought I was gonna enjoy the book. But as I kept reading I had to force myself not to put it down as DNF and continue to read it.

How a novella can be such a clusterfuck!

Not safe! Hero slept around as long as he has known the heroine. He became celibate once he realized he had feelings for her. BUT… a few nights before their vacation he was so turned on by the h he decided to go have sex with OW he had on speed dial. This scene was descriptive. He got a hickey as a souvenir and the h still thinks it’s a good idea to give him her virginity on their first vacation day. Then the author told us all the sexual stuff they did that month in a sort of summary. Skip to the fact she has a new job in another state AND she’s pregnant now. She doesn’t tell the H but instead tells him she doesn’t want to be with him. Of course the H fights for her, goes after her to claim his love for her. NOT! He goes to a bar, gets drunk, goes home with a brunette to fuck her brains out and forget about the h. This all off page, but we see the aftermath the next morning. Then skip forward a couple of months (was he with others, we don’t know, but regarding the brunette and the way he was before I would say HELL YES!) and he finally goes to see her. He now knows she’s pregnant, declare their love, have sex, the brunette is never mentioned, they have a shotgun wedding, they live happily ever after, THE END!

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
This is my first book by this author and I was excited to read it for that reason and because I love taboo romances. Some people would be put off by this type of relationship but I can completely understand how a deep love could form between these two individuals even though it might be frowned upon. It's just like two people that become best of friends before falling in love with each other. Nothing inappropriate ever happened between them before she actually became a grown woman, nor did he ever harbor any illicit thoughts of her until she was well into adulthood. So personally I think it is a very beautiful love story. It is a nice quick read that is full of passion once they both give in to their true feelings. Truthfully, Caroline harbored sexual feelings and fantasies about Perry before he actually started thinking of her in that way. I felt I was able to connect pretty well with the characters in the story but think it might have been nice to know a bit more about their past, like why the relationships with her extended family was "non-existent" and maybe more about their lives before her parents were killed. But all in all, I enjoyed the book and will be reading more from this author.

The Story started out quite well. I was enjoying how the two were close before anything happened between them. It was a nice steady build up... and then the trip happened and after that, everything became faster paced. And became more telling than showing. A lot of it after that, was very predictable and frustrating. Caroline made some questionable decisions and it ruined the connection I had with her. I understand making mistakes but the ones she made didn't really seem to make sense for her backstory. And I just didn't really care for Perry after he had sex with his massage therapist (Although, don't get me wrong IT did make sense that he do something like that but it just felt super dirty.) and then he fucks some rando at a bar 5 seconds after Caroline goes out of state? Bleh. and he never even tells her about EITHER of them.

OMG is book is sooooo good. This book is a short read. This is a story about Perry and Caroline. Caroline has been living with Perry since her parents died when she was 13. Perry was Caroline's father's best friend. Perry has been like a father to her for years but Caroline wants more. Caroline is now graduating from college and as a present Perry is taking her on vacation for three weeks. Caroline has always had feelings for Perry but as the years have gone by they have gotten stronger and she now loves him as a woman and not a child. I can't wait to read more from this wonderful author. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I definitely recommend this book.

I thought I was really going to like this one but I ended up angry at the end. The hero slept with not one but two other women. One, who he paid for sex, when he started have feelings for the heroine. And one who was a drunken, nameless one night stand when the heroine gets a job and leaves town. He sucked.

Caroline lost her parents when she was a child and instead of going to live with distant relatives, Perry her dad's best friend took her in. He was a great dad who was involved in her life doing the best he could to raise her the way his friends would have wanted. When Caroline turned 16, she stopped seeing Perry as just her dad and started seeing him as a sexy man. Now that she has finished college, she is ready to act on her feelings. Perry is confused because he is feeling some very unfatherly feelings for Caroline.
In celebration of her graduation the two go on a family vacation. Caroline goes all out to convince Perry to see her as a woman and not a daughter. They have a hot and passionate affair and Perry is hoping to continue it but suddenly Caroline takes a job across the country. Perry has no clue why Caroline has changed.
This is a hot and steamy short read. The story is less than 10 percent of the book and the rest is all bonus material which I didn't get a chance to read.

Another great book by Mia Ford. I loved the story line and the taboo about being with your dad's best friend. Caroline's parents passed away when she was 12. Her parents had it set up so that if anything happened to them Perry Adams, Caroline's deceased dad's best friend, would become Caroline's legal guardian. I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well developed and believable. This is a quick read that starts out so sweet and develops into a sexy HEA.

Very quick and steamy book, don't let the page number full you because the author included many other books into this one. I liked the characters and the premise, but felt the ending (last couple of chapters) was a little rushed

They both wanted each other, but wouldn't give into the attraction until they were alone on a dream vacation. Wow! It gets major steamy after that, but will their passion survive reality of real life. This was a good read, it had a lot of build up to when they gave in and then a bit of surprise after returning from vacation. It was a good read.

I enjoyed reading this book. It grips you from beginning to end and has you hanging on to see what exactly is going to happen. Caroline loses her parents at a young age. She goes and lives with her parents best friend Perry. Now Perry is about 20 years older than her but once she gets to that stage where her hormones are involved she starts having feelings for Perry. Feelings that you wouldnt normal have for a father figure. She graduates and they decide to go away for a week to take a break before she starts looking for a job. During this week things between the two of them completely change. But once back home in Colorado Caroline doesnt know what to do about the feelings that she has.She wants to protect Perry from what everyone is going to say and think. She takes a job that takes her away from him and his home. Things get even worse at this point. Both of them are dealing with so many different emotions and feelings.
The character chemistry was off the charts. I absolutely loved this storyline and Caroline and Perry together. You can easily see and feel the emotions and feelings that are between them. But you have to read this book to see what happens between them because the suspense in this book does leave you wondering if it is going to be a happy ending for them.
Mia once again wrote an amazing book . I absolutely love her writing style where you have the story from both points of view. I love being able to feel the storyline from both sides.

I have mixed views on this story. First point, I get the reasons why she fell in love with the older handsome hottie. I have no quarrel about that. But why suffer needlessly when she just could have discussed her feelings earlier? I mean she is supposed to be more mature beyond her years? Why have to suffer being polite to his conquests the morning after? That's it with her. That was Caroline in a nutshell. Now the older mature man. Well he is a slut. Sleeps with anything with a vagina. I didn't like that he in order to "deal" with his growing feelings of desire towards her. He does anything and even untill the last moment, was with and had sex with other woman. And he left her too. All alone. When anything could have happened to her... I would have done the same as him in his face. And I would have gone the week before the vacation with one of my friends. See how he likes being abandoned. I did like that she showed her annoyance though. It showed some sass. What I would have loved was that she should have tormented him further. When he began to really let loose his interest. Flirt with men. And then he goes back to being an ass. When she rejects him for the job offer in another state. Ahhhhh.

I voluntarily received an advance readers copy. I've read a lot of older man and younger girl books, but this one was very different and more believable.

Caroline lost her parents and through their will, she is raised by their best friend, Perry. Perry has always been in life and he was extremely happy they chose him instead of family they were not close to. Caroline start to develop feelings for Perry as she gets older and decides she is ready to make a move on him. She saved herself just for him. Perry not knowing she is totally in love with him starts to feel an attraction towards Caroline. He decides to take her somewhere special to celebrate her college graduation. They share a wonderful and romantic time on an exotic island. Unfortunately Caroline doesn't believe they can continue this relationship once they get back home and decides to move after accepting a job clear across the country. One lie leads to something that has her running away from the only man she loves leaving him wondering why. A good book to read.

I liked the premise of the book, and I liked the characters. At least through part of the book. I was puzzled over Caroline's actions about 2/3 of the way through the book--as much as Perry was--and though the revelation wasn't completely unexpected, I felt cheated as the reader that we didn't get t be a part of the whole experience with her.

That whole "cheated as a reader" explains my rating. There were so many things to like, but the whole telling instead of showing put such a distance between the reader and the characters and book, that it was hard to identify with them. Too much happened off the page, too much that we were told after the fact. I wanted the dialogue, the action, the taste/touch/feel of the experience. It was mostly lacking.

This had such potential to be a great heart-wrenching read, but I never got close enough to Caroline or Perry to feel it with them. I'm really sorry about that, because I really liked the set-up, premise and outline of the story. It just didn't fulfill its promise for me.

Forbidden Love

Perry raised his best friends daughter Caroline after the sudden death of him and his wife. She was a young nerdy teen at the time but blossomed into the beautiful woman he needed. She was falling hard for him but was afraid he wouldn't want her as she did him. A romantic, sweet and somewhat sad at times novel. A must read as you will not be disappointed. As always, another great read and favorite.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

I love this book for the simple reason that it is honest and truthful. The characters are real. The story is sensual and has a good ending. The story brings out the fact that some mature men are so much hotter and better at being wise and sexy. They know what to do and when to do it in the most awesome way. All in all a good read.

A sweet and quick read. Caroline lost both of her parents at a young age and not having any family to care for her dad's best friend stepped in to take care of her and be the parent she needed but as time goes on she soon begins to have strong feelings for Perry. I enjoyed reading this book. I've come to like the older male and younger female romance books.

Dad's Best Friend Review

A forbidden romance. Caroline's parents died when she was a teen and named her father's best friend, Perry, as guardian. Through her high school and college Caroline had the hots for Perry and though they tried to deny their feelings......love or lust always wins in the end. I was drawn in from page one. A well-written bittersweet romance.
