“Who are you? You can’t be my bride, you’re an Indian!”
Ned Hazlitt has it all figured out. After sixteen years in the army, he’s ready to become a civilian. He’s going to start a business and get married. His brother’s mail-order marriage turned out well, and as Ned is in a hurry, he decides that a mail-order bride will work for him too.
Ned’s plans don’t turn out quite the way he expected, and when he first sets eyes on the woman who’s arrived in Dalton to be his wife, she’s holding a rifle and it’s aiming straight at his head.
What he was expecting was a dainty, demure wife who’d do his bidding. He didn’t plan on a Shoshone wife, and Catherine Pelatier doesn’t intend to be anything other than what she is.
Is Ned willing to take the risk, or does he give up on the best thing that’s ever happened to him?
This is book 2 in the Brides of Dalton series, which can be read as a stand alone or a part of the series.
Catherine: Unexpected Indian Mail Order Bride by Bethany Rose was a delightful story that was different from any other mail order bride story that I have read. Everyone in Dalton was surprised when Ned’s mail order bride showed up and was half Indian. Catherine Pelatier is a young woman of few words but what she says is powerful. Can the town of Dalton see beyond her national origin to accept her into their community? There are lessons we can all learn from this story.
I had taken a break from Mail Order Bride stories but I am hooked again! Loved this story of love and acceptance to the point where my emotions were tested and I had to get tissues. Modern day diversity lessons from a time from long ago. We should take notice and follow their lead!
I've not read another book where the mail order bride was part native, however I feel the author did a nice job with this twist. The character was not nearly a developed as I wished, but overall a good read.
I finished this book with tears in my eyes, something that rarely happens. It is a sign that the message of the book really touched my heart and will stay with me. Join me and share the blessing. Read this book.
He sends for a mailorder bride but has to go away on business the day she arrives. His brother meets her at the train station, surprised that she’s part Indian. She proves to be a perfect partner for his brother and soon both realize they have fallen in love.
A sweet short story. Ned Hazlitt has returned home having spent 16 years serving in the US army. He buys the local store and seeing how happy his brother is with his mail order bride he decides to do the same reasoning that a wife will also be able to help with the store's day to day running. A Miss Catherine Pelliato replies to his advertisement. Ned accepts Catherine to be his future wife and heads off to buy some new lines for the store. Imagine his shock on his return when he finds his wife to be already in his home and she is half Indian too, a fact not disclosed in advance. Will they be able to not only make a go of things but also overcome the prejudices of the townsfolk of Dalton. I received a complimentary ARC and this is my voluntary review
