Wow that was full of action and drama everywhere! I couldn't put it down but then again I didn't! The pace was perfect, it kept you on the edge of your seat the whole time. There was so much going on that it just kept letting you get sucked into the book. Truly wonderful
Vera has been captured and sent off by her cousin the Emperor to basically die as she survived the last assignment which should have killed her. Roman has been recruited to the Marines and now they have been separated and their link through the chip has been broken.
Now Vera has to survive the experiments and the Shadows that lurk in a new different world, she makes friends, she makes enemies, her friends become enemies, and her enemies becomes friends. So her life is on the line everyday every hour. She misses Roman and their connection but over time she begins to see his life playing out as she sleeps, so there is a chance to win him back and see him. But first we must survive the dangers before she can be reunited with her lost love
I really liked this sequel, she learn so much of Vera and Roman and others like Driscoll and Ian. There is a lot of character development, mostly on Vera's part, she is no longer a girl who wants for her guardian to save her, she becomes independent, and learn to adapt to survival and learns how to fight for herself and those she loves.
It was sad to see Roman and Vera hardly together but I was super happy with how it all turned out in the end, but we are left we a cliffhanger for more info! Can't wait to read more!

I appreciate how the royalty/nobility aspect of the main character cuts down on the whiny teen angst that often creeps into YA books. The cliffhanger ending was a little annoying, but since I was planning to read the next book anyway, it wasn't a real problem.

In book two of the Matsumoto trilogy, more secrets are revealed. The main character, Vera faces more and more scenarios where everyone wants her dead no matter what she does. I have been fully absorbed into this storyline just like the shadows in this book! And I love every minute of this! Not only am I pleased with the unique nuances of this storyline, but this authors creativity just keeps me faithfully reading! Loving every minute of it and looking forward to part three! This voluntary review is based against an advance copy.

Just as the first book was full of action so was this one. It kept a very steady pace and although the ending left us with a lead into the next book it ended well. I did miss the banter between Roman and Vera and didn't expect him to be missing from the majority of the book. Vera grew a bit more into the person she will evidently end up being rather than what she was raised to be. Looking forward to the next book. I received a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

If the first book was an unexpected surprise, this one was even more of a surprise. I had no inkling as to what might happen in this book and how it might be resolved. It was shocking, surprising and exhilarating. I have never read anything like this. Needless to say, I have immediately started reading the next book, which is regrettably the last one in the series, downfall of trilogy. Note for future readers: This book makes no sense if you did not read Ex-Pacifist first.
There are so many surprises and unexpected turns in this book, it kept me awake at night. I simply could not put it down. High octane action from first to last page. No breaks. And a warning for standalone novel lovers, you better get the omnibus right from the start because just like the first book, this one has an open ending, with only some of the issues resolved and many more left for the next book. I am very glad I found this after the whole trilogy was completed!
Apart from being a great story and amazingly written with all the right character development, this book contains a complete new world building in such detail that it felt like I was there. And the development of Vera is amazing. I knew she had potential!
As I described in the first book: "She is a combination of very skilled diplomat and strategist, and a completely naive little girl. At times, her naivete borders on stupidity and gets her in impossibly difficult situations." That is how she starts and ends the first book. How she ends this book is by being an even better diplomat and strategist, as well as a strong and independent warrior and a leader. Her transformation is shocking. Insecure little girl becomes confident and ruthless as she sheds away layers of indoctrination and false beliefs imposed on her. She maintains her compassion and never looses the view of the bigger picture. The author brilliantly and masterfully implemented gradual changes that occurred in Vera, and created one of my favourite leading female characters thus far.
The reading order of the series is as follows: Roman Adrift (Matsumoto Trilogy, #0.5) (even better if read after the book#1), The Ex-Pacifist (Matsumoto Trilogy, #1), The Splitting (Matsumoto Trilogy, #2), and The Matsumoto (Matsumoto Trilogy, #3). The three novels also come as a book set The Matsumoto Trilogy: Omnibus Edition (Matsumoto Trilogy #1-3). Amazing futuristic series and I highly recommend it.

What a fabulous story. Vera Matsumoto again betrayed by her Emperor and cousin, she finds herself on a colony, where life is a horror story in the making. The Matsumoto’s had decided to overtake the planet, suppress or destroy the natives and colonisation was to be by prisoners and anyone who offended the Emperor. The locals fought back and the terraforming of the planet did not work. The colonies were decimated and very few people remain alive. Vera fights with every fibre of her being to stay alive and try to get back off planet. Grad yourself a copy and curl up in your favourite reading spot with your favourite beverage and enjoy the book and find out what Vera does next. Highly recommended.

I'm glad I carried on reading. Book 2 is so much more action and Vera's character less contradicting. She is developing although there is the occasional "Roman to the rescue" call like the damsel in distress she is keen to emphasize she doesn't want to be. But by the end of the book she knows what she wants and what it will need to take. From her and from the people around her.
The cliffhanger was obvious to me since long and the first chapter of the next book is now included anyways, so don't let this annoy you.

A wonderful
Continuation of Vera's story and the challenges she has to face and some harsh truths she had to learn as everything was ripped away from her. A new lays before her and reunited with important figures and loves in her life she is ready to take it all to right the wrongs of those in her family still in power. Well written continuation of the trilogy.

I loved the first book of Sarah K.L. Wilson’s The Matsumoto Trilogy, and its second book, The Splitting, keeps all of that books best features while kicking up the pace of the action and letting its lead really grow into the best sort of thinking kick-a** lead I just adore. This is a great book, and the best sort of sign that the series is going to great places. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed reading this book. It's packed with adventure and thrills that make it a steady page turner. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys thrilling YA style adventures. I received a copy of this book from the author but wanted to share my honest opinion of this book here.

The Splitting
This second book has a different feel than the first. Things move slower as Vera and her group make their way through a hostile environment. She can't turn around without someone reminding her who her family is, and claiming her guilty by association.

I have really grown to like Vera. Incredible action, fast paced, and complex. Definitely can't wait to read the next book.

The best book in the series. Takes the science fiction dystopia edge and blasts straight into science fantasy. Rhinric forever.

Very intense
This was much better than the first. Very fat paced. The first was a little rough around the edges. It needed some proofreading. Marybeth because I read the SmashWords version the font was awkward and slowed me down. This was much better.

“The Splitting” was an unexpected delight. When I figured out the premise of the splitting, I couldn’t help grinning to myself at the authors brilliant idea. Wilson has such dynamic concepts in this book that it was a thrill to read. She takes communication as we know it and tears it apart to rebuild it in perfect Sci-Fi manner. I enjoyed my time on yet another of Wilson’s brilliantly written planets. I look forward to the conclusion of this series.

She beat the odds and rescued her cousin, but Vera just can't get out of it that easy. Now she's condemned to a new planet, separated from her guardian, and trapped in a new, wild prison. The planet is beautifully dark and fraught with danger, including shadows that seem to have a darker intent than just killing them all -- though they make a spectacle of killing by turning their victims into mushroom fodder. Nice. Looks like Vera is doomed once more.
The action doesn't stop, and though the romance takes a heavy hit, we get glimpses of Vera's guardian that help keep hope alive. Seriously, I couldn't stop reading. So glad I had the entire trilogy when I started, because once you start, you just have to find out how it ends.

Vera is on a prison Planet and she plans on escape, so she'll have to be tougher and bolder than usual. An amazing scifi fantastic story that keeps you wanting more. Loved reviewing

Seriously?!? I can not get enough of this series!!! Well written and enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled, but no so many that you get lost in all the ups & downs and back & forths. Definitely put this on your to read list if you haven't already!!!

Continuing on after book 1, this sees Vera on a strange planet. Crash landed shuttle and few survivors. She has to fight her way through to the colony along with a dwindling number of survivors.
The plot is very good and well paced, can't wait to read book 3 next.
