*Prequel Novella leading up to the novel, WHISKEY & ROSES*
Former Special Operations legend, Xander King, was sitting down to Christmas dinner when his phone began to ring. One kidnapping, one shoot-out, and several deceptions later, he is caught in the middle of a battle he was never supposed to be in.
So he thought.
With innocent lives at stake, including his own, Xander and his team will have to solve the puzzle before someone’s sinister plan is executed. Will the enemy pull the wool over this combat legend’s eyes? Or will Xander teach those that involved him that revenge isn’t always so sweet?
If you like action thrillers then Bradley Wright is for you. This is the prequel to Whiskey &Roses. Again this book out me on the edge of my seat and could not put it down!! Bradley Wright JUST became my favorite writer. Now I have a huge crush on Xander King. His partner Samantha Harrison to go much like me in real life. Really snarky woman!! This and all of Bradley Wright books are a recommend read.
Is every hero now-a-days an ex-SEAL? Add one more in Xander King. This was a short and sweet action story, that takes place on Christmas Eve. My only gripe with characters like King is when an author spends so much time telling us readers that their character is one bad a## SEAL and so good at it....but then never really show us why this character is so Johnny Bad A##. King & Sam (MI6) had some action in the story, but nothing that really stood out as being special forces. I guess I was looking for some trade craft secrets or some Jason Bourne type action. Also, the bad guys were kind of weak, no big time threat. To make King look good, we needed a really BAD/Evil Johnny Bad A## to fight. Not some overweight idiot goofball Sheriff.
This was a fantastic prequel to the series. It provides additional character development and background that only provides greater depth into the main characters of the series. I read all in on sitting. I got started and it just rolled.
Fantastic pacing keeps you engaged between the action sequences Mr. Wright knows how to keep the tension building throughout, with no wasted dialog that breaks the flow. If you have read the Xander King series, this is a must read. If you have not, this is a good way to dive into the world of XK.
Xander King, ex Navy Seal, Samantha, ex M16. She's the brains, Xander is the enforcer. Kyle, Sanders friend is a force in training. The three of them are a force to reckon with! This is an exciting prequel to the Xander series. It's full of action and I enjoyed it immensely!!

Lexington, KY. Christmas. Xander King (former Special Ops) was watching the snow fall. Helen (sister) was preparing dinner. Kaley (niece), Kyle (BMF), & Samantha “Sam” Harrison (British, Xander’s business partner, former M16) couldn’t wait to eat. DA Allison Freeman called Xander & told him Charles Bowker had killed 2 guards & escaped from prison. His pals killed 5 other guards. 3 more were killed at a convenient store. Allison’s phone had gone dead. Sheriff Jerry Thompson, Xander, Kyle, & Sam were on their way to her house. St. Paul’s Cathedral. A hostage situation was taking place.
Will Charles be recaptured & sent back to prison. What about Allison?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written thriller (short story) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
Thank you for the free author; InstaFreebie; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; book Tony Parsons (Washburn; MSW)
I read all 4 books before I even knew this one existed. Had I read this book firsts, I wouldn't have been as anxious to read the next book. I had planned on giving this book 3 stars but my finger hit 5 instead. The other 4 books are GREAT but no so much this one. This book kept telling you what a badass Xander was but never showed you anything to prove this point! That was very disappointing. Since there were only about 80 pgs, I read it in one setting but I was disappointed that Xander didn't show us anything he was made of! Can't wait to read the next book.
I could tell right away that the author was intimately familiar with the location used as the back story. For me this gives an element of authenticity I truly appreciate. The formulation of the cast of characters was ok. I look forward to getting a bit more information on the next book. I like to know what each character "looks" like. The dialog between the two main characters, Xander King and Sam Harrison is fun. I already have the first book downloaded in my Kindle Unlimited titles so that's my next book.
Wonderful prequel to the series, having read Whiskey & Roses first it was fun to read this entrance into the world of Xander. Another former Seal who dedicates his life to ridding the world of bad guys albeit in his own unique way outside of the 3 letter agencies. Sam is a super character; Ying to his Yang that makes the series special! Can't wait to read the next story of hopefully many more to come.
A very poor version of the old "Avengers" TV series with Emma Peel and partner trading trendy quips in the middle of ridiculous scenarios with bad guys who couldn't shoot straight. Same plot and results only with a Rambo hunk instead of a foppish wuss with a bowler hat and bumberchute.
I got this prequel free with whiskey and roses. It was a great book! It gives background info on the main characters which helps you understand them in the whiskey and roses series. I'm glad I read it. I'm looking forward to read more from this author! Even as a stand alone it was fast paced and exciting.
An introduction to the Xander King series and its colorful characters. Within the first couple of chapters, a reader gets a true feel for the type of series complete with full action, thrills and suspense. Definitely sets the tone for the next book.
Awesome read! Great action, compelling story, and phenomenal characters. There's even a link to get the next book FREE! Mr Wright, you have found yourself a new fan!
A DA is kidnapped by a man, she put in jail after escaping, along with his cohorts. She calls Xander for help. Xander, along with Sam and Kyle try to find where the gunman have taken the DA. All is not what it seems. There is a twist. Good story.
While the plot line was good, the characters were a bit unbelievable, the dialogue a bit stilted, and the writing style inconsistent (it was sometimes good, other times cheesy). I've heard that the rest of the series is better, so continuing on with book 1!
The storyline was good and that’s the reason I gave it two stars. The author is trying to be Ian Fleming, but more like Stan Lee, and again not quite as good. The characters would be better in a comic book than an actual book.
Rating this book with 3 stars. I enjoyed the book. I will be trying another book from this author. I would probably be recommending this book to friends.
For me personally I know I'm reading a great book when I can visualize the characters in my mind. This happens to me when I read Bradley Wright. Thank you!
