DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER
The preceding five serials were amazing. Caroline, our h, is one of my top five book heroines of all time. This book though, almost singlehandedly unraveled all the warm fuzzy feels I have toward this series.
There is much to say about the economics of writing a best-selling series, particularly if, as the author mentioned in her closing words, the characters still have something to say.
What I will say is, Triumph ought to have been a novella, cut out the 50+ love making scenes and folks, you have yourself an extended novella. Which I would still have gladly bought for $3.99.
The last book, Rhapsody, ended with a fairly obvious plot twist but one which was pivotal to the very soul of this series and the author does not disappoint in giving us a resolution, even though it left ME unsatisfied.
Another issue which I had anticipated a swift and Triumphant resolution was the battle between the Santos' regime and the rebels. I expected a battle not necessarily blood and gore, but a strategic use of available resources to completely obliterate the evil that was President Santos. The author did not deliver. That resolution was an afterthought, one that was contrived and unimaginative. No, thanks.
Should I even mention how Caroline's character did a 180? This is not the woman that endured heinous physical and mental torture. This Caroline was indecisive to an almost annoying degree. And Jack was merely a placement character doing nothing more than getting Caroline's rocks off. Prior to that, he was such an inconsequence.
Time to wrap up thisramblingreview.
I did not appreciate this finale and I almost wish I hadn't read it.
"Be fearless, my love."

"We love our country. We want to see it restored."When we last saw Caroline and Jack, they had finally found peace together after the torment and pain that had been inflicted on them. To be together, separated, together but apart, and now finally together in a world that is broken, their work is only just beginning. Caroline has decided to testify to attract attention and gain assistance from the world to take down the rogue President Santos and his evil regime. While interrogating an enemy, it is revealed that perhaps her children could still be alive. That single piece of hope drives Caroline to cling to Jack and persevere a little longer in order to overcome.

"I love you, Caroline. So goddamn much I can't even wrap my head around it."Jack is desperate to bring Caroline safely back to a place where they can live and love and just be happy. He knows their work is not done. Before they can ride off into the sunset, they must continue the fight until they win or die trying.

"I wanted to remind you before it got too intense and you forgot. Keep your legs open."Told in mostly dual POV, Triumph is utter perfection. The complex characters and their intricate relationships are displayed with precision and tenderness as each moment of the story unfolds. Caroline has been through such an extreme transformation throughout this series so, in the end, there is nothing left but awe and raw inspiration. Jack is her true counterpart displaying strength and love for his "sweetheart." The passion between the two continues to flourish and grow, and this ending installment only made me fall in love with them that much more. In addition to Jack and Caroline, the secondary characters continue to play an integral role in the plot. Specifically, Christine, Caroline's dear friend! It was quite an extra treat to bear witness to her journey and the way she has been affected by everything. With so many endearing characters, which have been through so much, this is one epic series that I will never forget.

Rating:
“Everything I am, everything I have is yours.”

“She was Commander Caroline Gerard, leader of the new American Revolution. She had the heart of a goddamn lion. She’d crawled through the desert, battling wind and sand and blistering heat to come out ahead.”
“Protective, doting, alpha, and still incredibly intuitive.”

“Be fearless, my love.”

Once again I was stunned and in awe by this couple, Caroline and Jack … le sigh.
