JAKE
She’s annoying and tenacious.
And so damn beautiful it’s distracting.
She’s also my new agent. And even though I don’t want a new agent, Mackenzie Eden is pretty determined to be mine.
Did I mention she’s annoying?
So of course I get snowed in with her at my grandfathers logged cabin. For four days.
Four long, secluded, hot days…

MACKENZIE
I’ve never met anyone so damn stubborn in my life.
And I’m a sports agent!
But I can see potential in Jake Pennington and I’m determined to draw him out of the darkness and back into the sunshine.
The problem? He’s a stubborn ass.

THEIR STORY
Following a career ending tragedy, hockey superstar Jake Pennington decides to pursue a quiet life in Canada. He’s done with hockey and wants nothing more than to see out his days fishing, brooding and forgetting about his past.

But when Mackenzie Eden sees a kindred spirit in him, she enters his life like a snowstorm. She is determined to make him number one again. Why? Because she has something to prove.

Come Undone is a story of two people finding each other in the darkness. A sports romance, it will make you laugh, cry and want to sing karaoke in a snowed-in cabin with one very sexy hockey player.

'Holy freakin' smokes'- I did enjoy this book. Everything I expected from its cover and a fair bit more ;-)
I really liked this sweet and sizzling at times story of Jake Pennington, a talented hockey player who wants to give up his sport after losing his family and best friend in two accidents, and Mackenzie Eden, an adorable and extremely tenacious sports agent who is determined to get him back in the game.
I loved the story line, the humour of the telephone autocorrect banter, the slow build-up of tension, and above all, the characters: two decent people without a single mean bone between them, loyal, supportive, and willing to see the best in other people.
This was the first book by Penny Dee I have read and I will definitely be checking out her other novels. Strongly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Xpresso Book tours for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion.

It made me cry and laugh… and laugh some more…

You ever have a new author sneak up on you and spring an incredible story on you with little fanfare or warning? Well, this is that story… of Jake and Mackenzie. Their coming together meant sparks flew. And flew so high with heart-tugging emotion, scorching heat, and laugh out loud humour!

“The professional in me wanted to make him a cup of coffee, sit him down, and tell him to pull his shit together. But the bad girl in me wanted to fuck with him a little.”

Mackenzie’s job was to convince Jake to her way of thinking. That couldn’t be all that tough even if everyone else had failed before her. She was smart and talented, she would succeed. Snow storm not withstanding…

Jake… A brawny, sexy as hell Canadian hockey player. And so much more. He was low. As low perhaps as a person could get while still breathing. That is, until a beautiful and sultry talent agent from the South would push his buttons and his state of mind. Together they were going to start a flame that was going to consume them both…

From an unorthodox start, their relationship was filled with sexual tension and over the top banter (including the funniest non-sexting sexting ever!). Something I really hadn’t expected from the completely somber opening of this story. I’m not kidding. The devastating start knocked me over and set the tone for Jake’s point of view in the quietest, most poignant way. They way Mackenzie pulled Jake from his dark place, with humour and understated empathy, was inspiring (and even hilarious at times).

Did I mention I laughed? A LOT? And don’t get me started on spiders and jam…

A friend’s frank talk that made me smile…

“I’m not gay. I’m greedy.”

And the texting?
“No phone call? Text?”
“I was afraid your phone would hit on me…”

It all came together in a no holds barred, read in one sitting, devoured until the last page, read. I’ve had this author’s titles on my TBR for a while but this story means they go to the top of that super high stack! -Diane, 5 stars

Loved Jake and Z - it all felt very natural. Mind you could have slapped him upside the head when the inevitable bump in the road happened as he shouldn’t have been so stupid to think what he did!
Jake has been through a lot - after reading the prologue you just can’t imagine the author throwing anything else at him - thank goodness she healed him.

This book started out strong and has an intriguing storyline. Jake, a guy beat down by some horrible twists of fate, meets a young woman, Mackenzie, who is determined to help him get back on his feet, and on the ice, where he was once a successful hockey player. I enjoyed the first half of the book, but then it seemed to go downhill, starting with the old trope of being stuck in a snowstorm together. There were little things that bothered me, like the fact they were cabin-bound for several days while a storm raged outside, yet when it stopped snowing they were able to walk out the front door and around the surrounding property. Wouldn’t they have had to grab some shovels and dig themselves out? Jake, who is apparently so distraught by his losses, refuses to entertain the idea of going back to hockey, yet before you know it he is out on the ice at the cabin and skating his heart out. And somehow, Mackenzie manages to talk Jake into going back to the sport. How, I’m not really sure. One minute he seems hell-bent on staying away forever, and the next he’s telling her to make a deal for him. It was a 180º that was never really explained. Of course that sets up the next part of the book, when Jake is somehow expected to take a ragtag hockey team from the back of the bunch to the finals. It all just seemed like the author was trying to include as many tropes as she could.
Note: I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This is an absolutely amazing read.
I have not had the pleasure of reading anything by Penny Dee prior to this, but I will surely be rectifying that.
Such a brilliantly written book with plenty of laugh out loud moments to keep it light hearted, but there were also some gut wrenching times that had me in tears.
I have to admit I am a little bit in love with Jake. Sports Romance books are my favourite genre, that Jake is a hockey player, and just happens to be an incredible man that has had more than his share of heartache, places him as my new book boyfriend!!
Mackenzie is everything you would want a heroine to be. She is focused, loves with every fibre of her being and is incredibly loyal to those she has in her life.
All the minor characters help to not only develop but add to the story, especially Jake's team mates, who I hope Penny will continue on and write their own HEA's with a series about The Galveston Fury.
I cannot recommend this book enough.

Hockey romance at it's finest! Penny Dee always manages to blow me away with her writing! She is one of the few authors that I will always read, no matter what the synopsis is. Her beautiful writing style weaves with strong heroes and unforgettable female characters to create books that leave me pining for more time after time. And ALL THE FEELS!!! I think that is why I'm so addicted to her writing. I love when an author can make me FEEL the characters. Add that to sexy tension and build up that is spot on, and you have a 5+ star novel that needs to be shouted from the rooftops to be read! Seriously, this girl can write!

Jake Pennington is wrecked because of a tragedy that turned his world upside down. He once had it all as a famous hockey star, but now he just spends all his time in a cabin in Canada.

Mackenzie Eden is totally committed to her job. In fact, she is so committed that she doesn't really have time for anything or anybody else. When the ex-hockey star's information crosses her desk, she sees a way to get them both what they want. But she never meant for her heart to get involved. Jake was just supposed to be a way to further her career.

Can Jake put his past behind him to see a future with Mackenzie? Can Mackenzie choose her heart over her career?

On the journey of Jake and Mackenzie, you will laugh out loud often, have your heart shattered, want to hit them over the head sometimes, but most of all you will FEEL two people falling in love.

I love sports romance (especially ice hockey), and this story has lots of ice hockey drama. Jake Pennington is a good guy. He’s had a lot of heartache, losing his family, but he had his best friends by his side throughout, until he didn’t. When he thought he’d lost everything he went to his grandfather’s cabin, and that’s when he found purpose again. Mackenzie Eden is tenacious, she will not take no for an answer, no matter how many times the stubborn sexy ice hockey player knocks her back. Emotional, funny, sexy, and a whole lot of drama make this book a firm favourite for me. I love Penny Dee’s writing, it’s addictive, her characters make for interesting reading, always doing the unexpected. A romantic, fun and easy read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

This book was great I totally fell in love with Jake and to top it off he was a hockey player and I love myself some hockey players..Jake had been thru some emotional times and I think that Mackenzie showed up just when he needed her. This wonderful romance features Mackenzie and Jake. Sometimes a book boyfriend comes along and he’s so much more than a drool-worthy body and the face of a god. Sometimes he’s like hockey player, Jake Pennington. He plays hard and loves harder. After tragic events happened, he just needed someone to believe in him. He was so lost. Mackenzie isn’t quite sure which direction she’s going. She’s lost too in her own way. Sometimes I wanted to shake her to make her see the mistakes she’s making. This is an amazing story about tragedy, loss, trust, losing yourself and finding someone who brings the light back into your dark world.

Bravo! I love this one! I’m looking forward to reading more from this fabulous author.

Yet another fairly predictable book. Boy meets girl, boy and girl get stuck in a snow storm together for days on end, boy falls head over heels with girl and then boy's problems all disappear.

It's called a "hockey romance" though I have to warn you there's actually very little hockey in the first 80% of the book. Even towards the end, hockey takes a back seat to the main plot.

Even though it was predictable, it was a cute read.

Come Undone by new to me author Penny Dee, is chock-full of romance, heat, drama, and true love. It is a fast-paced read with two main characters that are instantly fascinating, likable, and have a ton of off the charts chemistry. This is a well-written sports romance that can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Mackenzie Eden is excellent at her job as an agent. She is smart, beautiful and always puts the needs of her clients above her own. Due to a bet with her cousin, who is also a colleague, former hockey superstar Jake Pennington is her latest challenge. Jake removed himself from professional hockey after a tragic accident occurred. A small cabin in Canada is where he now resides, as he continues to come to grips with the guilt that is forever surrounding him. Mackenzie believes that Jake has the ability to be a hockey great once again. Overtime, as they get to know each other, they fall into lust and love. Mixing business and pleasure is usually a bad thing, however, in their case it works out for the best.

I truly enjoyed this book and the engrossing plot is both sweet and sexy. Ms. Dee writes with a lot of passion, and as a result, I felt Mackenzie and Jake's emotional discoveries deep within my soul. Although Mackenzie's mom had a small role in the story, she was a real trip. This story temporarily took over my stressful world and left me completed sated.

These two are so stubborn! This is a hockey romance for those that love a hard headed man, and a woman strong enough and determined enough to support him when he needs it most! This book was fun, but serious enough to pull me in and keep me hooked until the very end.

Mackenzie is a sports agent, who works for her father's company. She is a hard worker, but still feels like she needs to prove herself by working even harder. Somehow, she finds herself an agent to a hockey player who doesn't want to play hockey. But she knows the potential is there, and won't let him become the brooding recluse he wants to be. Jake was on top of the world, until tragedy struck. He feels like he has nothing left, and withdraws from life, and hockey.

This story is all about second chances, determination, and love. There were lots of twists and turns, and I never knew what was coming next. I loved Mackenzie and her unwavering confidence and support of Jake. I couldn't help but laugh at their interactions, which were just as hilarious as they were steamy! This book was totally worth reading, and everything I want in a sports romance, and so much more!

I loved the first half of this book, the rise and fall of Jake was devastating and had me tearing up. Mackenzie's character was funny with enough sass to let you know she is just what Jake needed but as an entertainment agent that took Jake on as a bet, you knew this was going to be a bumpy ride. Sparks between the two are obvious and when they are stranded together in a blizzard, it gave me all the feels.
That is until Mackenzie becomes a different person within a blink of an eye. This brought the book down for me. Her reasoning was stupid, they are adults and the consequences of her actions was well deserved. Jake went through hell and I believe he deserved better, even with the traumatic scene at the end. It felt like it was written solely for us to forgive Mackenzie but for me fell flat.

A Great Read

You will need lots of tissues for this one. Mackenzie is a sports agent for her father’s company and makes a bet with him and her cousin that she can make their worst client a star with a NHL Championship title. The down and out client is Jake aka The Sasquatch. His parents and sister were killed in a plane crash and he began drinking and then accidentally killed his best friend on the ice. Mackenzie aka Z, is a determined woman and believes in Jake and sets about making him a star again. The only problem is...she is falling in love with her client. This one has 4 days stranded in a cabin, karaoke, truth or dare, crazy teammates, crazy clients and two hard headed people in love.

I don't know what to say about this one. I picked it up because I wanted to read a romance that had a hockey player in it, because being a good Canadian girl, I have a thing for hockey players. I found this one for cheap on Amazon and picked it up. It satisfied the above requirements, but it really was super hokey and cheesy and a bit ridiculous. Having said that, it provided the romance and the sexy time and the hockey player.

The story has tragic lows but also has moments that made me cackle with laughter.

Unfortunately I found the story stressful. The characters had a tendency too overreact and then not have a proper conversation which is never nice to read. The highs and lows felt like a rollercoaster that lasts too long and has too many loops.

Finally, there were some consistency issues during the story. This distracted me when reading, although I tried to overlook it so I could try and still enjoy the story.

Given how tragic the story begins I was surprised by the amount of wit and humor of both characters. I loved Jake. I mostly liked Mackenzie - sometimes she was a little much and her maturity didn't quite fit her business role. Overall, I'd recommend this hockey romance for lots of feels and a great comeback story.

Hockey Romance

I haven’t read many hockey romances. This one has just the right amount of the sport to keep you interested and learn about it, but not shove it down your throat. It’s funny and sexy as all get out. These two have been through so much and deserve happiness!

Come Undone is a standalone sports romance, unrelated to any other book by this author.

Jake Pennington knows he is skating on thin ice. A super successful Ice Hockey player, he has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons since his world fell apart a year ago. If he is to remain at the top of his game then he must stay away from the women, drink and parties because they aren’t doing him any favours. He doesn’t think his life could get any worse… until it does in the most awful way. Turning his back on the sport he loves and the life of privilege he leads is his punishment, but not punishment enough as far as he’s concerned.

Mackenzie Eden is out to prove herself. Working for one of the biggest Sports/Entertainment agencies owned and run by her father, she needs to make sure that people know she has the job because she is damn good at it; and not because of who she is. When she finds herself battling her cousin and best friend for the newest signing, she makes a bet. She knows nothing about Ice Hockey, but she knows that she can convince former NHL Superstar Jake Pennington back on the ice. In fact she is so confidant, she decides not only will she get him on the Ice, but she will get on a Texan team lying in the doldrums. Now all she has to do is find Jake Pennington.

I am a huge fan of Sports Romance, particularly when it relates to Ice-Hockey. Often though they can be overly technical on the sport itself and being British, it can take a bit getting my head around the NHL terms. What was wonderful about this book was that for me it had the perfect balance. Yes, it is set in the world of Ice-Hockey, but this book is so much more than that. It really is a great love story and I struggled to put it down.

I don’t want to go too much into the storyline, but I can say that Jake isn’t the only one fighting demons. They may have had different experiences, but these characters really do fit so well because they have experiences that effect the decisions they make and the way they lead their lives. They become a real balm to one another, providing light and optimism even if they try and fight it.

Penny Dee is a new author to me, but I will definitely be reading more of her work. I loved the chemistry she created, the storyline, but most of all I loved that she threw the massive OMG moment into the prologue. It is pure genius really, because it suckered me in after punching me hard in the gut first.

A great story with great characters. If you are new to Sports Romance then this would be a great place to start. If you want high emotion and laughs and you want your heart to swoon, this book needs to be added to your TBR today.

Overall Opinion:
First losing his family then his best friend, Jake finds his world crashing down and now all he can hold on to is a half-empty bottle of bourbon. Then just when he's drowning his sorrows at a local bar, Mackenzie struts in and knocks the breath out of him, proclaiming that she's his new sports agent. Chasing after him for a chance to help him make a comeback, she follows him to his grandfathers logged cabin in which they both get snowed in after getting hit by a winter snow storm. For four long days, sexual tension rises and the duo find it more than difficult to denied the growing attraction. And just before they know what hit them, an unlikely romance ensues.

Once I saw Penny Dee name on the cover, I jumped for joy to read another series by the talented author. She has always had a way with words and is easily able to create a solid group of characters that anyone is able to relate to. The real life struggles of the lead characters brought a different element to the book, arising readers emotions and allowing them to wish for their happily ever after. Mackenzie and Jake were the missing puzzle piece for each other and I have loved how they were able to encourage one other to overcome their past struggles. Their witty banter had me dying and their strong connection made me swoon. Moreover, like any typical relationship, there are some highs and lows yet Mackenzie and Jake are able to persevere and create a lasting love. Once again, Penny Dee blew me out of the water with this captivating sports romance series.

Come Undone is so much more than a Hockey Romance. It is a love story climbing its way through the chaos of tragedy and brokenness with so much swoon worthy, laugh out loud good stuff! The plot is believable and each character was so beautifully written. This book wrapped itself around me and just did not want to let go! I fell into every piece of this story from the beginning! Well done! This is the first time I have read Penny Dee and I am in love with this Indie authors writing, please keep writing!

Right away I loved Jake Pennington, the broken hockey star who lost everything including himself and his love for playing hockey. Loss and the journey of grief, are so beautifully poured into Jake. I felt the isolation and despair printed on the pages. There is such a deep reality that the author tapped into with Jake's state of mind surrounding traumas aftermath. Jake held so many character traits I am attracted to, it was easy to love him. Even though he is desperately broken and alone by his own choosing. The author gave him a witty, fun and humor filled personality that shined bright. There are so many laugh out loud moments with Jake that I could feel the healing happening!

I wanted to be Mackenzie. I was so happy with how the author chose to portray her. She is beautiful, driven, successful but harbors fear and anxiety from a incident in college. Mackenzie is not weak by any means and that was my favorite part. It resonated with me that I can be strong and also be a strength to others even in my own self doubt. Mackenzie is that girl you love through every thing and want as a best friend for life.

The connection between Jake and Mackenzie had me all sorts of twisted up! I loved that this story focused so much on the journey of these two climbing out of the darkness. Building trust and learning to accept the pasts they were dealt. Believing in someone enough to allow passion to heal! The sexual tension and the build up to intimacy was like fireworks on the Fourth of July awesome! I was so captured by the emotions translated to words I didn't want to exist anywhere but in this book! I can honestly say that Come Undone is one of my top five reads so far this year and deserves every single star of the five stars I rated it, I wish I could have given it more!
