Whip Cordeen is a loner. A man of few words, he can go days without conversation. No one knows where he came from or who his kin are, and not even his closest friend, Ty Holden, could tell you how he learned to break horses so well. Whip can subdue the orneriest animal without working up a sweat, and he seems to have the local cowboys under control as well. Although no one has ever seen the man fire a gun, most would rather kiss a rattlesnake than cross Whip Cordeen.

Then low-down horse rustler Brownie breezes into town, daring Whip to take on the monster stallion he has in tow. Everyone is shocked when Whip agrees. But it seems that he and Brownie have met before--and have a deadly score to settle. Suddenly, Whip's well-hidden past threatens the safety of all the good folk of Magpie Springs. Whip must find a way to stamp out his enemy before innocent lives are lost...
