The encounters and sightings in “Sasquatch Encounters” have never been published in print or online before. These reports come from many states and are told by the people who have met this elusive dweller of our forests. Al Capone’s incident was found in a very old article that was prepared for printing in the Chicago Sun Times newspaper, but languished all these years in an old trunk! It was given to us to reveal a humorous event at the gangster’s oft-used hideout in northern Wisconsin; long before of the public even heard of Sasquatch. There are several incidents that came from the personal journals of early gold miners that were submitted by their descendants; proof that the Bigfoot has been here all along. We started out to write our hiking book, and the name “Hiking Sasquatch Country” came about from so many hikers, campers and gold miners who began telling us about the mysterious animal they called “Sasquatch or Bigfoot.” The stories in this book came from those same people who not only convinced us to research records of this creature, but whom also contributed their own actual experiences. It turned out that we were absolutely astonished that so many, many people, from all walks of life, have either seen or had an actual encounter with Sasquatch. Welcome to Bigfoot country!
I loved that the authors chose to not alter the original stories with modern spelling and grammar correction. The stories are believable and the history rings true with the documentation going back hundreds of years of both white men and native Americans reporting the same type of encounters with Bigfoot. It's interesting that if given a chance it seems as the animals want to avoid humans if possible but will resort to violence if provoked or threatened.
I chose this rating because I through enjoyed every page, and when I came to the last page I was so disappointed that it wasn't longer - way longer. Living in Oregon I have been to many of these areas, yet Bigfoot was never a thought. I wish it had been. My husband and I are planning to start hiking, and it was a direct result of this book. So thank you. Of course, I would recommend this book. Very entertaining.
I felt book was informative without trying to sensationalize the material
I enjoy "true stories " about bigfoot or sasquatch encounters. When the historian sticks to the facts and allows you to draw your own conclusions about this controversial subject
I appreciate these books because they simply chronicle the sightings of Sasquatch. Some people have built their little empires by preaching almost a religion or cult, complete with "chanelling" various "Bigfoot spirits" by name, referring to them as "our ancestral elders" and spirit guides...
Needless to say, those types sell "experiences", conferences, basically they're selling a religious experience.
It's maddening.
If Bigfoot exists it's probably a solitary creature much like the gorilla (which was considered a myth until the early 1900s), or it's a hominid living alongside homo sapiens, like Neanderthal used to.
After all, most people of European ethnicity have Neanderthal DNA as well as homo sapiens.
Good short stories without a lot of fluff about education or the drawn out historical aspects of the area of the people. Kind of a readers digest of Bigfoot stories.
This is the second book of Bigfoot encounters from the Swansons. It is a follow-up to their first book, and was published after the authors put out an invitation for tales of Bigfoot sightings. This is a great collection of encounter tales, with the highlight for me being two versions of a famous encounter that ended tragically. The authors have published the stories mostly as is, including tales with no editing. Of special interest is how insurance companies and BLM and forestry personnel handle Bigfoot sightings. A great collection of tales from respectable sources that cryptid fans will enjoy.
