After her father’s death, Ricka Daniels is determined to leave the desolate mining colony on Rivean and return home. To Earth.
Too bad the cosmic universe has other plans.
It turns out fighting off the unwanted advances of a Klorthon warrior is a bad idea, especially when he is intent on selling her to a renegade band of slavers. When Synge Varlik, a Tarron hunter, intervenes and prevents her abduction, Ricka believes she is safe. She soon discovers the extremely hot and totally ripped alien’s idea of a rescue is trapping her aboard his ship and taking her to his home planet.
Synge is sworn to protect the inhabitants in his quadrant, including the human female whose mere presence taunts the animalistic side of his nature. In order to protect Ricka, he invokes an ancient rite—a warrior’s challenge to the death. He will protect her with his life and do anything necessary to keep the spirited woman alive, even if he has to kidnap her and claim her as his own to do it.
Nola Robertson grew up in the Midwest and eventually migrated to a rural town in New Mexico, where she lives with her husband and three cats, all with unique personalities and a lot of attitude.
Though she started her author career writing paranormal and sci-fi romance, it didn’t take long for her love of solving mysteries to have her writing cozies. When she’s not busy working on her next DIY project or reading, she’s plotting her next mystery adventure.
Not a particularly good book. It was short and shallow, plus lust isn't love, and words like characterization and world building aren't your enemies.
Even at this price, I wouldn't recommend it.
Personal note. This author has written 3 books, but she claims to be an award winning one. I doubted it, as her writing is yes competent, but not talented to me nor the story seemed good. Still, that could have been my own cynical self. It seems it's true. There's a Lone Star Contest. Honestly though? Given all that the book lacks I do wonder....
Hunter Bound is Book 1 in the Tarron Hunters series by Nola Robertson. I am still not sure about how I feel after reading this book. There were some things that I liked and others that I did not. I tend not to read a lot of the Sci-Fi Romance but thought this book looked interesting and it might be a good series. So I am going to reserve judgement on the series yet but I will say that Hunter Bound did not impress me and I found myself skimming a lot of it.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Did Not Finish I only made it to 60% before giving up. The plot did not flow well, the world building was not good, there were a lot of gaps in info as well -leaving me lost & confused. The characters were shallow, Ricka was not likable at all & down right annoying, & Synge came across as a bi-polar jerk, not hero material. Neither inspired me to give a dam what happens to them. The emotions seemed lust based, no connection or love felt. Even the one sex scene I did read came across as boring so this wasn’t erotic reading either. Does not deserve any stars. Wish I could get my time back to read something enjoyable instead.
Bartender Ricka Daniels is determined to leave the Rivean Mining Corporation colony and return home to Earth. She figures in 4 more months, she should have enough money saved up. Her friend Libby told her the guy in the back wanted another drink, and the two of them remarked on how handsome he was. Oddly enough, the stranger had not stopped staring at Ricka since he came into the bar. Just then, the door banged open and a Klorthon warrior entered. They were mean-tempered and normally didn’t come to the bar, preferring the pleasure houses. Her boss scurried down the hallway to lock him in his office for safety!
The alien sat down and offered her $20 to spend the night in his bed. She directed him down the street to the pleasure house, but he grabbed her wrist tightly and said it wasn’t a request. She slowly reached for a dagger in the back of her waistband and held the point against his neck, asking him to release her wrist. A voice behind him suggested he do what she asked. The stranger, whom she later learned was a Tarron Hunter responsible for Quadrant enforcement, showed his weapon and the Klorthon left. She only hoped the Tarron would remain a little longer in case the Klorthon came back!
Synge Varlik was tracking a slaver’s ship and lost it at Rivean. He had to refuel and was taking a break in a bar. He had recognized the Klorthon and had heard rumors Molock might be involved with the slavers, so he didn’t leave right away. When Molock approached Ricka, Synge felt himself growl – what was wrong with him and this possessive reaction? But Synge had to follow Molock to determine if he was with the slavers.
When the women closed the bar, the outside lights for the parking area were out. Libby was too tired to walk the long way around, but as soon as they entered the alley, Molock blocked them. Ricka kneed him in the groin and they ran, but a second Klorthon grabbed Libby and Molock grabbed Ricka again. He sent the other alien away with Libby and turned his attention to Ricka as he shoved her against a wall. By then, Synge had moved in and fired a shot above Molock’s head. But Molock would never release his prize. According to the ancient warrior’s code, Synge could invoke the rite of challenge and battle to own and protect her. As Synge was winning, Molock cheated and used Ricka’s dagger to attack. Although Synge won the fight, he was bleeding badly from a deep wound and Molock escaped. Synge was now bound by oath to protect Ricka and she insisted he rescue her friend, Libby. Would he be willing to do that? Does she realize he will keep her with him, even if he has to kidnap her and claim her as his own to do so!
I enjoyed the story, especially the humorous dialog between Ricka and Synge. He has never had dealings with a feisty human before, so the story line takes off in a fun direction. I thought the characters were presented well to let the reader determine what to expect from them. Grab your copy of the book and watch the fireworks begin!
This was a great story to read. Yes, it is the first story in a series, so ya may wanna read this one, then you will get hooked! Nola Robertson really knows how to spin a tale. Great world building, being this is in outer space with different races, different planets. Why do humans always have to be at the bottom of the pecking order? Well, at least the females are desired by all races. The characters are so well developed, you can just about see it like a movie.
Ricka is an Earth girl that moved to the mining colony with her dad after her mother passed away. Now that her dad is gone, her only goal is to make enough money to get back to Earth and start a new life. At the start of this story, she is working as a bartender and her friend Libby works as waitress. They are used to every guy hitting on them, since there are very few females on planet. When this huge Klorthon warrior, Molock, tells her she will sleep with him, she fights back until the big Tarron Hunter, Synge, who has been watching her in the back comes up to send the guy away. When Ricka and Libby leave at closing, Molock shows up to kidnap them both. His henchmen take Libby and as he is about to grab Ricka, Synge shows up and demands the rite of challenge for her ownership. It is to the death, no weapons, winner gets Ricka. Of course, Molock has no honor and grabs Ricka's blade. Even though Synge won the fight, it was not to the death, so he needed to get Ricka to his home where it is secure. He knows that Molock will come after her.
Synge is a Tarron Hunter that has been after a group of aliens that are kidnapping females and selling them at the slave market. He had to stop on this mining planet for fuel, get a drink and maybe some female companionship at the pleasure houses. When he went for a drink, he sees Ricka, and he can't seem to leave. He has watched her fend of many men, anything for marriage to a quickie. But when Molock grabs her and tells her she will sleep with him, and she pulls a knife on the warrior, he knows he has to step in. Since he knows how Molock is, he knows that he will not allow the slight to his reputation stand. He will come back for Ricka. He has to keep her safe. He didn't know when he demanded the right of challenge, that it means more than he thinks.

Ricka and her father left earth when her mother died she was only 12 when they left her father went to work at the Rivean Mining Company then her father had a heart attack and he died then Ricka was told by the company that she would have to vacate the company housing. If it wasn’t for her friend Libby taking her in well Ricka wouldn’t of known where she would of ended up plus her friend also got her the job at the bar where she works now, Ricka is trying to save enough Rivets to get back to earth because there is nothing left for her here anymore. A guy walks into the bar who’s been looking at Ricka ever since he came in and Ricka has noticed his cat like eyes he’s gorgeous and it’s been a long time since a man has interested Ricka. A Klorthon came in and sat at the bar and told Ricka that he will pay for a night with her but she refused so he grabbed her wrist and smacked her ribs against the bar Ricka had a knife and she put it up to his throat but the Alien didn’t care it just made him more angry, the man in the corner warned the Klorthon so he apologised had a beer then left. One of the miners said lucky that the Tarron interviened he said to Ricka that the man is a hunter she has heard stories about them but she has never met one until now. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but this is just the beginning of this fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
This is the first time that I have read a book by this author and I plan on reading more of her books. I couldn't put this book down at all! I HAD to finish it. The dynamic between Ricks and Synge is off the charts. She is very independent and strong willed woman who finds herself in trouble cause she stands up for herself when an Klorthon decides that he wants her for himself and she tells him no. Synge, who is a hunter, steps up and saves her from the Klorthon and then decides to take her to his plant to keep her safe. From there, the sparks really fly between these two. I admire the author because she wasn't afraid to give both of her characters strong personalities. It worked and I can't wait to see if there will be more to this world that she has created. Get this book. You won't go wrong.
Synge is looking for slavers that have been capturing women and trading them on the black market he has been following Molock he is suspected by Synge and other hunters but they cant catch him but when they both want the same wonem Rhyka Synge will envoke the law of combat to save her but thats before he realizes he wants more he will take her to his planet and convince her that she is his one true mate.
Rhyka some ugle disgusting Khlorthone by the name of Molock comes into the bar she works in and demands she service him she's not happy about that then a Hunter intervenes but even after Molock leaves he is not gone he comes back now her friend is missing and she needs Synge help to find her what she didn't count on was falling in love with him but Molock isn't done with either one of them.

ONE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY!!! OMG! You get it all with this baby. Nola brought out the magic with all the drama, intrigue and suspense while the tension spirals as this incredible storyline and gripping plot brings this little gem together skillfully. One non-stop action, heart pounding, pulse racing, page turning bombshell that's as riveting as it is captivating. All the twists and turns, ups and downs along with a few glitches and bruises catapulted this baby forward bursting to life beautifully. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and connect along with the graphically detailed scenes that really pull this baby together smoothly. Awesome job Nola, thanks for sharing this baby with us.

This was my first time reading a book by Nola Robertson and her book was fascinating and exciting. She did not disappoint. She gabs you and pulls you in with her story and word building. Awesome characters with hot and steamy Synge and Ricka. He's a Tarron warrior and she's a bartender wanting to return to earth. A Kloethon wants to claim her and take her to his planet. Not to give away any plots, but there's drama, Kidnapping, claiming, passion...what's a girl to do...with twists and turns and hot steamy romance. I will definitely be reading more form this author!

Ricka was tending bar when a Klorthon warrior grabbed her and propositioned her. She grabbed a knife and in no uncertain way showed him she was not interested! She didn’t know that would put her life in jeopardy. Synge Varlik, a Tarron hunter, saves her from an abduction by invoking a warriors challenge to the death. He takes her to his planet and keeps her in his home in order to keep her safe. He just didn’t know how spirited and spunky Ricka can be!

Their story has suspense, drama, danger, twists turns, an evil Klorthon warrior, kidnapping, slavers, and romance. I enjoyed reading this book. Overall I enjoyed this but did have some problems with it. I got annoyed when Ricka did a couple of dumb things and I got irritated that instead of explaining Synge just ordered her around when he’d already admired her spirit. Still enjoyed the story enough to read on. I do believe there could be a bit more world building but it was fast and entertaining. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
I didn't think that I'd enjoy this one, but I was wrong. This is a new author for me, but I'll definitely be looking for more from her in the future. The storyline was good and solid, the characters were well developed and had good interactions with each other. It was a good entertaining read.

This is an enjoyable sci-fi read about a human female and an alien who falls for her. There is some action and it shows that the female is no push-over. The two have chemistry and respect for each other’s differences. I’m hoping the rest of the series is as good as this first book.

I am glad I decided to get this book when it was offered for free. I'm always looking for good sci-fi romance and this on one had great world building, excitement, suspense, and if course, the happy ending. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series as well as other books by this author.
Interesting book. I like the world building but hope there is more in the next book. There wasn't a lot of info on the Hunter society. Ends with a bit of a cliffhanger.
What a great read the characters we’re truly well rounded the plot intriguing I like my books with a little more spice normally but the story was great I’m going to buy the next one
This story of Synge and Ricka was exciting and fun. The characters were strong and interesting. The scenes were well written and the images poured off the pages. Good story
