The revised and updated edition of A Woman's Guide To Spiritual Warfare: How To Protect Your Home, Family And Friends From Spiritual Darkness by Quin Sherrer and Ruthanne Garlock is a practical book outlining the need for Christian women to be well-versed in Scripture for the purpose of spiritual warfare against the devil and evil forces determined to undermine our relationship with God.
First, they explain what spiritual warfare is, what our armor and weapons consist of, and why it's so important that we, as women, take a stand and intercede for those we love (spouses, children, co-workers, prayer partners, etc.). Then, Quin and Ruthanne break it down and cover common expressions of spiritual warfare and examples of how to face each one. They are quick to point out that there is no one specific method that works for every situation, and you need to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance on how best to approach your specific problems.
The stories related are comforting in that they help you realize that others have been through similar problems, and that there is hope is you persevere and commit to praying to God with absolute faith in His power and strength over darkness.
While I had a hard time relating to parts of the book (I'm not the type to be able to point straight at my daughter and vocally tell Satan that she is off limits and plead the blood of Jesus in public), I did find the prayers (which can be done in private or quietly) to be helpful in dealing with negative energies. I also do not personally agree with some of the examples of the Devil's work presented by Quin and Ruthanne (anything considered new age, homosexuality, and generational curses were the biggest ones), so parts of this book were a little extreme for my personal beliefs at this point in my life. That being said, I still found enough that I could relate to to consider the book helpful.
I do appreciate the prayers at the end of each chapter, and the section of topical prayers at the end of the book. For me, they resonate better than the ones in other similar books I've read. I'm rating this book as 3/5 stars. I would consider it helpful to women trying to find a way to fight back the evil or negativity that is trying to get a foothold on the lives of those they love, particularly if you are the sort that openly binds and rebukes evil spirits. If you're not so much the binding and rebuking type (quietly raising my hand here), then the prayers will still be very helpful, but there may be other books that you might have an easier time relating to.
*Disclaimer: I received a free print copy of this book from Chosen books for the purpose of this honest review. All opinions are my own.*
This book was powerful, practical, and deeply encouraging. A Woman’s Guide to Spiritual Warfare doesn’t sensationalize spiritual battles or lean into fear. It equips women with truth, confidence, and biblical grounding to recognize and respond to spiritual darkness with wisdom and authority.
Quin Sherrer writes in a way that feels accessible and reassuring, especially for women who want to protect their homes, families, and friendships without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated. The emphasis on prayer, discernment, and standing firm in faith is handled with clarity and compassion, making the book feel like guidance rather than instruction.
What I appreciated most is how practical this book is. It’s not just theory but it offers real-life examples, prayers, and actionable steps that help you feel prepared rather than anxious. The focus on God’s power and protection keeps the message rooted in hope, not fear, which is so refreshing in conversations around spiritual warfare.
This is a wonderful resource for women who want to grow spiritually, strengthen their prayer life, and better understand how to stand firm in faith in everyday situations. Whether you’re new to the topic or looking for a refresher grounded in biblical truth, this book is absolutely worth reading.
Such a powerful book that really gets you focused and understanding spiritual warfare. This book is not for the faint nor for those who want to take their prayer lives to the next levels. If you are seeking a deeper, more intimate prayer life...if you desire to be an intercessor -- this is the book for you.
Thirteen chapters jammed with extraordinary prayers and insight on various topics of prayer. I loved how much my spirit was fed by reading this. I can't pin-point one chapter that made me happy over another. The entire read kept me focused on God and prayer.
I found myself writing down the prayers, jotting down scriptures, annotating, highlighting and really diving into my own Bible as I read this.
This is a highly effective book for your personal prayer arsenal. Highly recommend this book.

This book was made up of 13 chapters and additional resources. The authors did a very good job of explaining what our spiritual wardrobe should look like in chapter 3. It gave me a fresh outlook on the armor that paul described in Ephesians 6:13-16. The book also highlighted the various strategies believers used to partner with God in seeking answers to prayers and accomplishing His purposes on earth. Spiritual warfare is not a subject to be taken lightly but this book made the topic understandable, relatable and doable. Will be referring to it over and over again for encouragement and guidance.
I did like this book. I only give it 4 stars because I took me awhile to read it. They had so many real life stories in this book that showed you can overcome anything with God. You can definitely read this book if you are going through certain seasons in your life. For example, there was a section about marriage and children, and I did not feel led to read those because I am not in that season. But I did make sure I wrote a note that said go back to it :)
This was an eye opening book!! I am SO grateful to have read this warfare book on how to recognize, pray and defeat the enemy. This book is needed for end time warfare!! READ and soak in the scripture and Gods word.. this will change your life. Thank you Lord, for the women of God answering the call!!
Thank you very much NetGalley for allowing me to read this book on Spiritual Warfare. This is a topic that is not discussed much. I was thankful to see other views on this topic and I was not able to read it all at one time as I believe this is a top for over many years.
After reading 48% of the book I decided I was uncomfortable with some of the freedoms being taken by the authors. The premises in the beginning are excellent but I just couldn’t go the distance in the last half.
A great summary of many strategic battle plans to be utilized in spiritual warfare. With many examples scattered throughout, it’s an easy read and extra memorable. Very practical for any believer to read and understand.
Needed to read this!!!!! I have been feeling the urge to do something more and not knowing how to get past this spiritual warfare I have been going through. I feel this book has given so many good weapons to use in this battle.
I loved how prayer is evident and the focus because it is necessary. However, way too many scriptures were taken out of context and that’s a dangerous thing to do. A promise for David, is not a promise to us. Dangerous beliefs can arise that way
The book is for every God loving female that wants to take control over the spiritual side of life. It is a huge eye opener for woman of faith and will help to make them stronger by word. I think this would make a great gift for the female in your life who devotes prayer and truth in a way that binds and grows.
This book had a lot of great things to share but I feel the authors went way off base in several parts. The one that stuck out the most to me was in the marriage chapter. The authors tell a woman who was in a marriage where the husband was sexually abusing their daughter for 8 years that God does not want her to divorce her husband, that the marriage can be saved if the woman forgives her husband of the sin and gets her daughter some counseling. It made me sick to read that and I can't give the book a higher rating because of this account.
Great book on the power of prayer and spiritual warfare. My favorite quote: "If we accept the fact that our role in life is that of soldiers, then we must drop our toys and become more aquainted with the weapons of our warfare."
